This paper derives the symbol error probability for quadrature amplitude modulation(QAM) with L-fold space diversity in Rayleigh fading channels. Two combining techniques, maximal ratio combining(MRC) and selection combining(SC), are considered. The formula for MRC space diversity is obtained by averaging the symbol error probability of M-ary QAM in an additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) channel over a chi-square distribution with 2L degrees of freedom. The obtained formula overcomes the limitations of the earlier work, which has been limited only to deriving the symbol error rate(SER) of QAM with two branch MRC space diversity. The formula for SC space diversity is obtained by averaging the symbol error probability of M-ary QAM in an AWGN channel over the distribution of the maximum signal-to noise ratio among all of the diversity channels for SC space diversity has been reported yet. Analytical results show that the probability of error decreases with the order of diversity gain per additional branch decreases as the number of branches becomes larger. On the other hand, the performance of 16 QAM with MRC becomes much better than that of SC as the number of branches becomes larger. By giving the order of diversity, L, and the number of signal points, M, we have been able to obtain the SER performance of QAM with general space diversity. These results can be used to determine the order of diversity to achieve the desired SER in land mobile communication system employing QAM modulation.

We investigate BER performance according to the order of spatial and frequency diversity combining in uplink SC-FDMA of SIMO systems. It is found that frequency diversity combining (FDC) after spatial diversity combining (SDC) is better than the reverse order combing in all SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) range. Also, it is shown that FDC after SDC requires less computational complexity than the reverse order combining.

In this paper, we analyzed the DS/CDMA System with Hybrid SC/MRC diversity, as a method to achieve a good performance by reducing the complexity of system, when PLL gain value was revised a phase gulf among branches to make perfect coherent receive signal. The channel is a multipath Nakagami-m fading channel, we consider user(K), processor gain(N), number of paths(Lp) in DS/CDMA system with hybrid SC/MRC diversity. We found that PLL gain values exist to make perfect coherent receive signal. We verified that DS/CDMA system with Hybrid SC/MRC diversity can improve performance when the proper PLL gain values is used in the system. As a result, we verified that the upper limit of PLL gain value is 5dB to make perfect coherent receive signal in the DS/CDMA system with hybrid SC/MRC diversity.

This paper derives the symbol error rate (SER) for quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) with L-fold selection combining (SC) space diversity in Rayleigh fading channel. No analysis has been reported yet for theoretical SER performance of QAM with SC space diversity in Rayleigh fading channels. The formula is obtained by averaging the symbol error probability of M-ary QAM in an additive white Gaussian noise channel over the distribution of the maximum signal-to-noise ratio among all of the diversity channels. By giving the order of diversity, L, and the number of signal points, M, we have been able to obtain the SER performance of QAM with general SC space diversity. Analytical results show that the probability of error decreases with the order of diversity. We can also see that the incremental diversity gain per additional diversity decreases as the number of branches becomes larger.

Antibody phage display provides a powerful and efficient tool for the discovery and development of monoclonal antibodies for therapeutic and other applications. Antibody clones from synthetic libraries with optimized design features have several distinct advantages that include high stability, high levels of expression, and ease of downstream optimization and engineering. In this study, a fully synthetic human scFv library with six diversified CDRs was constructed by polymerase chain reaction assembly of overlapping oligonucleotides. In order to maximize the functional diversity of the library, a ${\beta}$-lactamase selection strategy was employed in which the assembled scFv gene repertoire was fused to the 5'-end of the ${\beta}$-lactamase gene, and in-frame scFv clones were enriched by carbenicillin selection. A final library with an estimated total diversity of $7.6{\times}10^9$, greater than 70% functional diversity, and diversification of all six CDRs was obtained after insertion of fully randomized CDR-H3 sequences into this proofread repertoire. The performance of the library was validated using a number of target antigens, against which multiple unique scFv sequences with dissociation constants in the nanomolar range were isolated.

In this paper, two receive diversity combining techniques are proposed for single-carrier Sequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA)-based cooperative relay systems when DFT spreading sizes for mobile station (MS) and relay station (RS) are different. A simplified-MRC (5-MRC) technique performs diversity combining in the time domain using the estimated channel weight and initial values obtained by SC-FDMA signal detection. An interference rejection-MRC (IR-MRC) technique performs diversity combining in the frequency domain by adjusting DFT spreading size in the receiver. It is shown by computer simulation that the proposed receive diversity combining techniques achieve a significant performance gain over the conventional MRC technique with zero forcing (ZF) detector.

In this paper, a receive diversity combining technique is proposed for single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA)-based cooperative relay systems when discrete Fourier transform (DFT) spreading sizes for mobile station (MS) and relay station (RS) are different. The proposed technique is composed of a DFT spreading size adjustment block, a phase rotation compensation block, a channel phase compensation block, and a receive diversity combining block. The proposed technique is robust to multipath channels and can be operated with a relatively small computational complexity because receive diversity combining is performed with scalar operations in the frequency-domain. It is shown by computer simulation that the proposed receive diversity combining techniques achieve a performance gain over the conventional maximal ratio combining (MRC) techniques for SC-FDMA-based cooperative relay systems.

In this paper, the hybrid SC/MRC technique was applied to the MC/DS-CDMA system in the Nakagami-m multi-path fading environment. The applied scheme was compared with other cases when the MRC technique was applied and then performances were analyzed. The result of analysis showed that the performance of the applied system, whose number of branches (L) for the input diversity of each carrier wave was 3 and かme selected number of branches ( Lc) was 2, was better than that of the MRC technique when the Lc of the MRC technique was 2. The performance of the applied system was lower than that of the MRC technique, then the Lc of the MRC technique was 3. However, as the fading index was lowered, which means the telecommunication environment deteriorated, the performance of the hybrid SC/MRC-(2/3) diversity technique when Lc of MRC technique was 3, was almost the same as that of the MRC technique. The hybrid SC/MRC-(2/3) diversity technique shows a similar performance to that of the MRC technique, when the Lc of the MRC technique was 4. Therefore, it was confirmed that the MC/DS-CDMA system could reduce complexity and achieve similar performance to that of the MRC by applying the hybrid SC/MRC technique, which utilized the advantages of the SC technique and high performance of the MRC scheme, rather than the MRC diversity technique that requires bit synchronization, frequency of fading, and phase synchronization for every diversity branch.
The growing interest towards ultra-wideband (UWB) communications stems from its unique features such as baseband operation, ample multipath diversity, and the potential of enhanced user capacity. But since UWB has to overlay existing narrowband systems, multiple access has to be achieved in the presence of narrowband interference (NBI). However, existing baseband spreading codes for UWB multiple access are not flexible in handling NBI. In this paper, we introduce two novel spreading codes that not only enable baseband UWB multiple access, but also facilitate flexible NBI cancellation. We construct our codes using a single carrier or multiple carriers (SC or MC), which can be implemented with standard discrete-cosine transform (DCT) circuits. With our SC/MC codes, NBI can be avoided by simply nulling undesired digital carriers. Being digital, these SC/MC codes give rise to multiband UWB systems, without invoking analog carriers. In addition, our SC/MC codes enable full multipath diversity, and maximum coding gains. Equally attractive is their capability to reduce the number of interfering users, with simple matched filter operations. Comprehensive simulations are also carried out to corroborate our analysis.
In this paper, we have analyzed the MC-DS/CDMA system with input signal synchronized completely through adjustment of the gain in the PLL loop, by using the hybrid SC/MRC-(2/3) technique, which is said to one of the optimal diversity techniques under the multi-path fading environment, assuming that phase error is defined to the phase difference between the received signal from the multi-path and the reference signal in the PLL of the receiver. Also, assuming that the regarded radio channel model for the mobile communication is subject to the Nakagami-m fading channel, we have developed the expressions and performed the simulation under the consideration of various factor, in the MC/DS-CDMA system with the hybrid SC.MRC-(2/3) diversity method, such as the Nakagami fading index(m), $the\;number\;of\;paths\;(L_p),$ the number of hybrid SC.MRC-(2/3) $diversity\;branches\;(L,\;L_c),$ the number of users (K), the number of subcarriers (U), and the gain in the PLL loop. As a result of the simulation, it has been confirmed that the performance improvement of the system can be achieved by adjusting properly the PLL loop in order for the MC/DS-CDMA system with the hybrid SC/MRC-(2/3) diversity method to receive a fully synchronized signal. And the value of the gain in the PLL loop should exceed 7dB in order for the system to receive the signal with prefect synchronization, even though there might be a slight difference according to the values of the fading index and the spread processing gain of the subcarrier.
