  • In the modern UAV systems, the role of radar payload has been increasing with its unique performance of day-and-night operation and see-through capability over hidden obstacles. Contrary to the satellite reconnaissance, UAV is expected to provide high resolution target detection and recognition capability while frequent flight missions would deliver enhanced SAR image and local information over the target area. STK(Satellite Tool Kit) is a professional space-analysis software widely used in all phases of a space system's life cycle. The simulation of STK is efficient and accurate relatively. In this paper, the author attempt to model the UAV operation and measure the expected SAR image quality. STK(Satellite Tool Kit) is employed to analyze UAV operation and produce SAR raw data. A SAR simulator is developed to produce high resolution SAR image for various ground targets.

  • Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) has been employed in various fields due to its capability to generate high resolution images regardless of weather and visibility. This paper presents a performance analysis on the image formation of high resolution SAR according to various slant range distance and synthetic aperture lengths using a range migration algorithm simulator. Although the visual performance on the SAR image is more accurate, a numeric analysis resulted in a comparable measurement. More specifically, raw data were generated for an ideal point target upon imaging geometries and design parameters such as slant range distance and synthetic aperture lengths. Finally, spatial resolution, peak to sidelobe ratio and integrated sidelobe ratio are drawn to provide SAR capabilities in the initial concept design, final in-flight calibration and validation stages.

  • The power simulator for a LEO satellite is a useful tool to analyze mission validity and energy balance for various mission scenarios by estimating power generation, power consumption, depth of discharge, bus voltage, charging/discharging current, etc. In this paper, it is described the calculation algorithm of the solar array (SA) power, the satellite load power and the battery modeling method to develop a satellite power simulation. To simulate the SA power generation, three different operation modes (DET, MPPT, CV) of SAR (Solar Array Regulator) are considered with a SA model. The satellite load power is estimated using the satellite unit power database, the unit on/off configuration at some satellite operation modes. The bus voltage and battery charging/discharging current at the specific DoD (Depth of Discharge) are calculated based on the battery characteristics. By this satellite power simulator, it can be conveniently analyzed the energy balance and the validity of a planned mission of a LEO satellite.

  • 다기능 선박조종시뮬레이터(Full-mission Shiphandling Simulator)는 항해사, 선장 및 도선사의 자질 향상을 위한 교육뿐만 아니라 항만개발을 위한 사전 검토와 해난사고 발생 시, 원인규명을 위한 분석에도 이용되고 있다. 한국해양수산연수원에서는 이러한 목적을 위하여 2011년 2월 28일 Russia Transas 제품의 선박조종시뮬레이터를 설치 완료 하였다. 이 FMSS는 적어도 360도의 수평시각을 가진 대형 구형화면에 여섯(6) 자유도 운동을 하는 본선 및 타선을 실시간으로 표현하는 photo-realistic high resolution computer graphic visual system과 같은 최신기술을 사용하는 가장 현대화된 최고급 해상용 시뮬레이터로 해난 사고 윈인규명을 위한 분석 연구 목적을 위하여 광범위한 출처로부터 모델시험과 자료의 신뢰할만한 공식적 기록들에 근거한 매우 정확한 수력학적 선박 모델링 소프트웨어로 이루어졌다. 여기서는 이 FMSS의 형태와 복잡성을 상세하게 소개한다.

A Study on Design and Implementation of Hangul-NAVTEX Simulator (한글 NAVTEX시뮬레이터 설계 및 구현에 관한 연구)

  • NAVTEX system is an international automated direct-printing service, broadcast on 5181kHz and 490kHz, for the promulgation of navigational and meteorological warnings and urgent information to ships. With our government's adoption of the international convention for SAR(Search and Rescue) in 1993, various trials for the installation of NAVTEX system have been executed by the government committee, relating laboratory and experts. An important consideration of the installation for NAVTEX system is the availability that could broadcast messages written in korean letter. Also, the receiver which can process the signal demodulated from the two frequencies, 518kHz and 490kHz, should be developed and supplied in domestic. In this paper, the code table and algorithm for conversions between NAVTEX characters and Korean Letters are studied, and signal processing techniques of code conversion are developed. Circuit design and implementation of the NAVTEX simulator using the Direct Digital Synthesizer are discussed, code conversion algorithm and signal processing technique of the NAVTEX transmission are programmed in its circuits. For evaluating the its functional characteristics, receiving module which has I-Q channel structure is designed. From the measurements of simulator, the characteristics show the frequency stability of the $(\pm)2Hz$ and Spurious free dynamic range is -63dBc. And the simulator can generate simultaneously wanted signal and several interfere signals. So, its capability is valuable for designers of the transmitting system and NAVTEX receiver, for provider as testing facilities of the type approval.

  • We present an implementation result of a computer GUI-based simulator using MATLAB to verify the performance of interferometric radar altimeter(IRA) which is possible to measure the slant range altitude and the cross-track angle to the nearest point for terrain aided navigation(TAN). After a brief description of the principle of TAN and IRA, we present that the grids are divided for the modeling of the reflected signal in digital elevation map(DEM) and so the radar cross section(RCS) of each grid is calculated and the signal-noise ratio(SNR) of the reflected signal in the radar beam width. And the signal processing procedures of the IRA and the structure of the IRA simulator are shown.

Preliminary Evaluation of Handling Qualities of a SAR(Search & Rescue) Helicopter Simulator Based on ADS-33 Requirements (ADS-33 평가기준에 따른 소방헬기 비행시뮬레이터의 비행조종성 예비평가)

  • As a part of the first stage in the helicopter flight simulator development, this study numerically evaluates handling qualities of the dynamics model. The flight dynamics model was generated using public information for AS365 N2, the target aircraft of the simulator. The flight simulator is under development as a pilot training and research tool for firefighting missions. The assessment of the model intends to validate general characteristics and suitability before the model is enhanced with flight test data. The evaluation is based on the ADS-33E-PRF(Aeroautical Design Standard Performance Specification Handling Qualities Requirement) criteria, with consideration of category of the aircraft, missions, and environment. The numerical operations follow required or recommended procedures of flight test for compliance demonstration. Evaluation results are evaluated according to the rating specified in maneuverability ADS-33E-PRF. Results have identified to provide a satisfactory platform for flight dynamic model in the general helicopter simulator generated based on the RotorLibFDM, and can be used as a base for basic training and research.

  • 인공위성은 위성통신, 기상 등 다양한 분야에서 활용되고 있지만 재난과 위성영상 특성 매칭의 제약으로 재난 상황에서는 제한적으로 사용되었다. 국내외 위성 갯수의 증가로 위성영상을 준-실시간으로 확보 가능함에 따라 활용할 수 있는 범위가 증가하여 최근에는 재난·재해에 신속하게 대비하기 위한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구는 재난 발생 지역의 위성 영상 확보를 위해 촬영된 영상과 미래시점의 촬영 예정인 영상의 촬영 예정 시간 및 영역을 빠른 시간 내 분석하여 최적 위성영상 확보에 기반이 되고자 한다. 행정안전부에서 분류한 재난·재해 유형에 따라 재난 예측, 탐지, 사후처리를 위한 위성자료의 확보를 위하여 다양한 위성과 탑재된 센서들의 궤도, 공간 해상도, 파장대 등의 위성영상의 적시성을 분석하여 최적 위성을 정의하였다. 위성 궤도 시뮬레이션은 TLE(Two Line Element) 정보를 이용하는 SGP4(Simplified General Perturbations version 4) 모델에 적용하여 개발하였다. 최신 TLE 정보를 이용하여 위성 궤도 정보 및 센서 정보(공간 해상도, Swath width, incidence angle IFOV 등)을 적용하였다. 수집된 위성 궤도 정보를 기반으로 위성의 궤도를 예측하여 예측된 위치에서의 촬영 영역을 산정하는 분석 기능을 수행하여 최종 시뮬레이션 데이터를 생성한다. 개발된 위성 궤도 시뮬레이션 알고리즘을 토대로 태풍 미탁 사례에 적용하였다. 위성 궤도 시뮬레이션 알고리즘을 태풍 미탁 사례에 적용한 결과 다종 위성리스트 중 위성 궤도 분석을 통해 최단기간 획득 가능한 위성 중 정지 궤도 기상위성인 Himawari-8, GK-2A는 태풍 경로 모니터링, 광학 위성인 Sentinel-2, PlanetScope는 건물 피해 지역, SAR 위성인 Sentinel-1, ICEYE는 홍수 지역을 탐지하는데 최적 위성 영상으로 분석되었다.

  • ETRI(Electronics and Telecommunication Research Institute) has joined National GNSS Research Center program of Defense Acquisition Program Administration and Agency for Defense Development in 2010. The research subject is technology for MSAR(Military Search and Rescue) system configuration. In this project, we analyses the ways in order to improve the accuracy, reliability, availability for MSAR system from M&S(Modeling and Simulation). The MSAR System M&S Software can be used for performance analysis of new elements, such as ground elements and satellite elements without any hardware development. In this paper, after introduction of the architecture design and functional scope of the simulator, the performance analysis result for MSAR M&S software is presented.
