Development of Stability Index for Defining the End of the Post-closure Monitoring Period for MSW Landfill (폐기물매립지의 사후관리종료 평가를 위한 안정화 지수 산정에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the stability index of landfill sites to assess it's degree of stability. In order to develop the stability index, field data including leachate qualities, Landfill gas (LFG) composition and element composition of wastes from 50 closed landfills were collected. Three parameters-BOD/CODcr among leachate quality parameters, $CH_4$ among landfill gases, and C/N ratio from wastes-were found to be the best parameters for measuring the stability of landfill sites. The trend line of these parameters were used to Also, $CH_4$ from landfill gases and C/N ratio from wastes were found to be the best parameters. The trend lines of these parameters were used to develop the stability index of landfill sites. The equation for the index was as following; $I_{LS}=S_L+S_G+S_W$ $S_L=-\{4.892+16.587{\cdot}ln[BOD/COD_{Cr]\}$ $S_G=53.872-12.782{\cdot}ln[CH_4]$ $S_W=79.382-20.013{\cdot}ln[C/N]$ (The maximum score for $S_L$, $S_G$, and $S_W$ was 33.3.) where, $I_{LS}$ : The stability index of the landfill $S_L$ : The stability score of the leachate $S_G$ : The stability score of the landfill gas $S_W$ : The stability score of the waste.

High-Frequency Parameter Extraction of Insulating Transformer Using S-Parameter Measurement (S-파라메타를 이용한 절연 변압기의 고주파 파라메타 추출)

  • In this paper, we suggest a method of extracting circuit parameters of the insulating transformer using S-parameter measurement, especially in high frequency range. At 60 Hz, conventionally, no load test and short circuit test are used to extract the circuit parameters. In this paper S-parameters measured from VNA(Vector Network Analyzer) were used to extract the transformer parameters using data fitting method (optimization). The S-parameters from the equivalent circuit using the extracted parameters showed good agreement with those from measurement. Furthermore, the transformer secondary voltages from the equivalent circuit model also coincide quite exactly to the measured secondary voltages in sinusoidal forms. Finally we assert that the proposed method to extract the parameters for the insulating transformer using S-parameter is valid especially in high frequency.

Buckling of a single-layered graphene sheet embedded in visco-Pasternak's medium via nonlocal first-order theory

  • The buckling response of a single-layered graphene sheet (SLGS) embedded in visco-Pasternak's medium is presented. The nonlocal first-order shear deformation elasticity theory is used for this purpose. The visco-Pasternak's medium is considered by adding the damping effect to the usual foundation model which characterized by the linear Winkler's modulus and Pasternak's (shear) foundation modulus. The SLGS be subjected to distributive compressive in-plane edge forces per unit length. The governing equilibrium equations are obtained and solved for getting the critical buckling loads of simply-supported SLGSs. The effects of many parameters like nonlocal parameter, aspect ratio, Winkler-Pasternak's foundation, damping coefficient, and mode numbers on the buckling analysis of the SLGSs are investigated in detail. The present results are compared with the corresponding available in the literature. Additional results are tabulated and plotted for sensing the effect of all used parameters and to investigate the visco-Pasternak's parameters for future comparisons.

Source parameters of earthquakes occurred in the Korean Peninsula (한반도 발생 지진의 지진원 상수)

  • Source parameters for forty nine recent earthquakes occurred in and around Korean Peninsula are determined and the relations among them are studied. The corner frequency and seismic moment are estimated from three different methods. The spectral fitting of the source displacement spectrum with the $\omega$-square source model of Brune(1970) and Snoke(1987)'s method are applied to all events and empirical Green's function method for two events are adopted. The source parameters determined in this study show different values depending on the adopted method and on the stations of which seismograms are recorded. It is interpreted that the disagreements principally originate from insufficient consideration of source radiation pattern and attenuation and amplification according to path direction. The corner frequencies and seismic moments are averaged to exclude the directional effects and other source parameters are estimated from the mean corner frequency and seismic moment. The static stress drops estimated in this study tend to be independent of seismic moment or magnitude for events above a certain size. For earthquakes with the size less than about 3.0$\times$10$^{21}$dyne-cm(nearly same as M$_{L}$=3.7), the stress drop tends to decrease with the decreasing moment. This fact suggests a breakdown of scaling law of source parameters below the threshold magnitude. The moment magnitudes calculated from source parameters appear to be slightly larger than the Richter's local magnitudes in the range above M$_{L}$=3.5.3.5.

  • Pharmacokinetic parameters of aminoglycosides are dependent on renal function, sex, age, hematocrit, fever, lean body weight (LBW) and disease states, etc. Therefore, the individual pharmacokinetic parameters such as half life $(t^{1/2})$ and volume of distribution(Vd) are needed to achieve optimal therapy. However these parameters had not been determined in Koreans. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the Vd and $t^{1/2}$ of amikacin in Korean patients who had normal renal function, to compare the mean values of study group with that reported in the literature and to compare the measured $t^{1/2}$ with the expected $t^{1/2}$ based on actual body weight (ABW), LBW and ideal body weight (IBW), respectively. Based on data, the Vd was greater than the literature and $t^{1/2}$ was similar to the literature. The predicted $t^{1/2}$ based on IBW was the closest to actual $t^{1/2}$. And postpartum patients had greater Vd than other group and had lower correlation between actual elimination rate constant and calculated creatinine clearance but higher correlation between actual elimination rate constant and Vd than other group.

IMPLEMENTATION OF DATA ASSIMILATION METHODOLOGY FOR PHYSICAL MODEL UNCERTAINTY EVALUATION USING POST-CHF EXPERIMENTAL DATA

  • The Best Estimate Plus Uncertainty (BEPU) method has been widely used to evaluate the uncertainty of a best-estimate thermal hydraulic system code against a figure of merit. This uncertainty is typically evaluated based on the physical model's uncertainties determined by expert judgment. This paper introduces the application of data assimilation methodology to determine the uncertainty bands of the physical models, e.g., the mean value and standard deviation of the parameters, based upon the statistical approach rather than expert judgment. Data assimilation suggests a mathematical methodology for the best estimate bias and the uncertainties of the physical models which optimize the system response following the calibration of model parameters and responses. The mathematical approaches include deterministic and probabilistic methods of data assimilation to solve both linear and nonlinear problems with the a posteriori distribution of parameters derived based on Bayes' theorem. The inverse problem was solved analytically to obtain the mean value and standard deviation of the parameters assuming Gaussian distributions for the parameters and responses, and a sampling method was utilized to illustrate the non-Gaussian a posteriori distributions of parameters. SPACE is used to demonstrate the data assimilation method by determining the bias and the uncertainty bands of the physical models employing Bennett's heated tube test data and Becker's post critical heat flux experimental data. Based on the results of the data assimilation process, the major sources of the modeling uncertainties were identified for further model development.

  • An accurate and simple method to extract equivalent circuit parameters of fully-depleted silicon-on-insulator MOSFETs small-signal modeling operating at RF frequencies including the non-quasi static effects is presented in this article. The advantage of this method is that a unique and physically meaningful set of intrinsic equivalent circuit parameters is extracted by de-embedding procedure of extrinsic elements such as parasitic capacitances and resistances of MOSFETs from measured S-parameters using simple Z- and Y- matrices calculations. The calculated small-signal parameters using the presented extraction method give modeled Y-parameters which are in good agreement with the measured Y-parameters from 0.5 to 20GHz.

Rainfall-Runoff Analysis in the Whangryong River Basin Using HEC-HMS and HEC-GeoHMS (HEC-HMS, HEC-GeoHMS를 이용한 황룡강유역의 유출분석)

  • Rainfall-Runoff Analysis in Whangryong River Basin was made using HEC-HMS and HEC-GeoHMS. The Basin was divided into three sub-basins using HEC-CeoHMS and GIS. Then, GIS input data were derived from each sub-basins. SCS CN runoff-volume model, Snyder's UH direct-runoff model, exponential recession baseflow model and Muskingum routing model in HEC-HMS were used to simulate the runoff volume using selected rainfall event and the parameters were optimized. Peak flowrate calculated using optimized parameters was compared to the observed flowrate in the basin. The result proved to be good agreement with each other. Optimized parameters in this local basin can be used to calculate the peak flowrate in the future.
