A Study on the Improvement of Efficiency for Quality Assurance Based on Quality-Bill of Material (Q-BOM(Quality-BOM) 기반의 품질보증 효율화 방안 연구)

  • Purpose: For effective quality assurance activities, BOM-based quality assurance method is presented. This study introduces various BOM conversions such as Q-BOM, T-BOM, and S-BOM based on M-BOM structure. Methods: Product quality control via Q-BOM manages inspection/audit information, overall supply-chain of product, part requirements, and inventory status. T-BOM manages part traceability, and S-BOM enables statistical control over key process and parts at various hierarchy levels. Results: Quality plan template was developed based on the study results of BOM system including Q-BOM, T-BOM, and S-BOM. Conclusion: Through BOM(Q-BOM, T-BOM, and S-BOM) study and development of quality plan template, more systematic and comprehensive quality management plan is achieved.

  • Since past till now, automotive wiring harness has been designed and produced under the method of part number list. However, the number of options has increased gradually on the basis of customer's needs and car manufacturer's policy, thereby bringing about an increase in the number of classified parts. Because of a large number of classified parts, cost estimates for manufacturing and production planning are more important than ever. However, the pre-existing manufacturing bill of material abbreviated as BOM is only focused on the list of materials used for actual manufacturing, and as such there have been limits to other fields or areas of usage except for manufacturing. In essence, the present paper is concerned with our study conducted on modular BOM as one of planning BOM. On such basis, we have been able to completely use a method by which to have access, make an option units' calculation in wiring harness manufacturing, and build an efficient system for cost estimates in manufacturing as well.

  • This study is about to constructing BOM for managing and integrating information, which is drawing, technical data, attribution, design, ordering, cost, weight, process, service, etc. based on train's system, elements, substructure, assembly, components, parts during whole train's lifetime of the next generation. The BOM is the mostly basic structure information as hierarchical data what are parts consisted specific products. The BOM was utilized as essential elements for collectively managing through informing all of the business activity from ordering to supplying. The BOM in railroad is consist of two parts. One is Engineering BOM for design, the other is Production BOM for production, which are utilized in development calculating the quantity of materials. Also the Maintenance BOM is applied to suppling parts and managing malfunction in railroad corporation like the Seoul Metro. There are many kind of BOMs, because of the special character for each step. Therefore We have need to develop BOM which is able to integrate drawing, technical data for helping good circulation between RAMS applied maintenance using database and helpful know-how for development and production. Also the BOM of the next generation must be consisted regard to whole life-cycle.

  • There are many types of BOM, such as EBOM, MBOM, As-Built BOM, As-Designed BOM, Generic BOM, Customized BOM, etc. We should define an adequate BOM to achieve some purposes. In this paper, we proposed BOM structure for EMU Maintenance Information System. First of all, we define Master BOM including all part's information, such as 2D/3D drawings, images, specification, etc. And then we define Object BOM that is functional structure for someone to achieve maintenance works. Object BOM will be applied to configure sales orders, explode aggregate forecasts, and calculate standard cost.

  • Generally, BOM (Bill of Material) means a part list which is needed to manufacture or assemble a product or part. During manufacturing processes, BOM is inevitably required for most of enterprise processes such as design, procurement, production planning/control, resource planning, and financial works. Every manufacturing industry uses many kinds of BOM's that are adjusted to the requirement of functions of their work division. Moreover, BOM evolves in different forms according to the product development phases such as conceptual design; function design, detail design, and production design because it is necessary to use different product structures to keep product data generated throughout the lifecycle of a product. This includes all data and information related to the all the product development phases. Shipbuilding works also are processed and controlled based on BOM. However, effective maintenance of ship outfitting BOM data is getting difficult as the amount and complexity of data have increased due to variety and long lifecycle of ship. For the effective management of outfitting BOM data, two aspects must be considered. One is how to classify numerous BOMs type and the others how to display BOMs. So this study suggests a method to classify BOM types and propose two categories - Structure BOM, Display BOM. Base on this result, we propose the integrated ship outfitting BOMs model and analysis outfitting BOMs.

A Product BOM Management Scheme Due to Specification and Engineering Changes in Customer-Oriented Make-To-Order Manufacturing Environments (고객지향 수주생산 환경에서 사양 및 설계 변경에 따른 제품 BOM 관리 방안)

  • In manufacturing companies, engineering information is a central data which defines a product to be produced. This is changed by various factors such as changes of product configuration, changes of drawings information of a technology's licensor, etc, and these changes essentially accompany the changes of a product BOM (Bill of Materials) structure. Thus, engineering changes gives a heavy burden to information management within enterprise because the changes of product BOM have an influence on each departmental BOM such as a procurement BOM, a manufacturing BOM, a quotation BOM, etc. Especially, these changes of product BOM due to the engineering changes is inevitably and frequently happened by a customer's requirements in a customer-oriented make-to-order manufacturing environments. In these manufacturing environments, information gap among each department from the first contact point of customer to engineering, materials, production, quality, and management is very close, and thus it is very important that the change information of product BOM due to changes of product specification and engineering information are efficiently communicated among each department. This paper describes a procedure of determining product specification and of generating product BOM, and proposes an efficient management scheme for the change process of product BOM information due to changes of product specification and engineering. Also, to show the effectiveness of the proposed product BOM management scheme, a product BOM management system is implemented for the ship engine division of 'H' company, one of customer-oriented make-to-order manufacturing enterprises.

  • This paper focuses on a BOM(Bill of Materials) management problem for a small and medium manufacturing company that produce automobile parts. Automobile part's manufacturers produce various products due to various automobile characteristics such as types, colors, and the other options of car. These products are classified into product groups with common parts. And each product group is regarded as a product family. This paper proposes an efficient and effective EXCEL-based BOM management scheme using characteristics of the product family. And we have implemented the practical EXCEL-based BOM management system for real small and medium automobile part's manufacturing companies.

  • Recently, as the product life cycle becomes shorter and customer needs becomes various, it has a great difficulty in managing the product information without the information technology. In this paper, we discuss how to classify numerous BOMs types and propose three categories-Structure-BOM, Display-BOM and Function-BOM for BOMs classification. Based on this result, we design the integrated BOMs management system with ERD(Entity-Relaion-Daiagram) model. This paper presented the methodology for management speed-up and communication innovation in the automotive industry, which incorporated the enterprise-wide product information. The proposed enterprise-BOM design methods also systemized the data related to automotive's principal attributes such as types of levels, options, colors, and consumers' orders. Efficient and flexible development of products can be achieved in the frequently varying environment of products.

  • This Report explains a plan for the application and construction about BOM(Bill Of Material) in charge of primary part of the RIMS(Rolling-Stock Information Maintenance System) maximizing the RIMS's reliability. The BOM system of the Seoul Metro is accomplished the frequent changes of the structure and design through the OEM(Original Equipment Manufacturer) and the maintaining and repairing work and also The BOM system is constructed so that Seoul Metro can solve all problems of the composition change, Rolling-Stock construction, changeful history management. In addition the BOM system of the Seoul Metro is considered the applicative side of the technical data, information of the material, expediency and hindrance analysis.
