  • For arbitrary random variables {$X_{n},n{\geq}1$}, the order of growth of the series. $S_{n}\;=\;{\sum}_{j=1}^n\;X_{j}$ is studied in this paper. More specifically, when the series S_{n}$ diverges almost surely, the strong law of large numbers $S_{n}/g_{n}^{-1}$($A_{n}{\psi}(A_{n}))\;{\rightarrow}\;0$ a.s. is constructed by extending the results of Petrov (1973). On the other hand, if the series $S_{n}$ converges almost surely to a random variable S, then the tail series $T_{n}\;=\;S\;-\;S_{n-1}\;=\;{\sum}_{j=n}^{\infty}\;X_{j}$ is a well-defined sequence of random variables and converges to 0 almost surely. For the almost surely convergent series $S_{n}$, a tail series strong law of large numbers $T_{n}/g_{n}^{-1}(B_{n}{\psi}^{\ast}(B_{n}^{-1}))\;{\rightarrow}\;0$ a.s., which generalizes the result of Klesov (1984), is also established by investigating the duality between the limiting behavior of partial sums and that of tail series. In particular, an example is provided showing that the current work can prevail despite the fact that previous tail series strong law of large numbers does not work.

  • Heteroepitaxial GaN films were grown on sapphire substrates in order to study the effects of the buffer layer's surface roughness and thermal treatment on the epitaxial layer's quality. For this, GaN buffer layers were grown at $550^{\circ}C$ with various TMGa flow rates and durations of growth, and annealed at $1010^{\circ}C$ for 3 min after the temperature was raised by 23 ~ $92^{\circ}C/min$, and then GaN epitaxial layers were grown at $1000^{\circ}C$. It has been found that the buffer layer's surface roughness and the thermal treatment condition are critical factors on the quality of the epitaxial layer. When a buffer layer was frown with a TMGa flow rate of $24\mu mole/min$ for 30 sec, the surface roughness of the buffer lather was minimum and when the thermal ramping rate was $30.6^{\circ}C/min$ on this layer, the successively grown epitaxial layer's crystalline and optical qualities were optimized with a specular morphology. The minimum full width at half maximum(FWHM) of GaN(0002) x-ray diffraction peak and that of near-band-edge(NBE) peak from a room temperature photoluminescence (PL) were 5 arcmin and 9 nm, respectively.

  • Background/Aims: Endoscopic band ligation (EBL) is used to treat colonic diverticular bleeding (CDB). An endoscopic variceal ligation device for esophageal varices is used as a conventional EBL device (C-EBL). A new EBL device (N-EBL) was developed by Sumitomo Bakelite Co. in August 2018. We aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of N-EBL compared with those of C-EBL. Methods: Seventy-nine patients who underwent EBL for CDB at St. Luke's International Hospital, Japan, between 2017 and 2020 were included in this retrospective study. Patients were divided into the C-EBL and N-EBL groups. Their clinical outcomes, including achieving initial hemostasis, early rebleeding, procedure time, and EBL-associated adverse events, were evaluated. Results: Of the 79 patients, 36 (45.6%) were in the C-EBL group and 43 (54.4%) were in the N-EBL group. The rate of achieving initial hemostasis was 100% in the C-EBL group and 93.0% in the N-EBL group. No significant difference was noted in the early rebleeding rate between the groups (p=0.24). The N-EBL group achieved a shorter median EBL procedure time than the C-EBL group (14.2 minutes vs. 18.2 minutes, p=0.02). No adverse events were observed in either group. Conclusions: The N-EBL device is safe and useful and may reduce EBL procedure time.

  • The kinetics of hydrolysis of hydrazonyl bromides $(p-H,\;p-CH_3,\;p-OCH_3,\;p-Br,\;p-Cl\;&\;p-NO_2)$ have been investigated by UV spectrometry in $60{\%}$ dioxane-water at $25^{\circ}C$ and a rate equation which can be applied over wide pH range was obtained. Below pH2, the rate of hydrolysis of a series of hydrazonyl bromide is accelerated by electrondonating group (${\rho}$ = -0. 94) whereas at the pH values greater than 4, the ${\rho}$-value is 0.54. The rate equation, solvent-, substituent-and bromide ion-effect on the rate of hydrolysis are rationalized in terms of $S_N1$ and $S_N2$ mechanism: below pH 2, the hydrolysis proceed through $S_N2$, however, above pH 4, the hydrolysis is started by the attack of hydroxide ion and in the range pH 2{\sim}$4, these two reactions occur competitively.

  • This study has a purpose to look into the effect of the relationship between the Tube current (mA) and SOD(Source to Object Distance), which is a parameter of lower limb angiography examination, and the dilution rate of the contrast medium concentration (300, 320, 350) on the image. To that end, using 3 mm vessel model water phantom, a vessel model custom made in the size of peripheral vessel diameter, this study measured relationships between change of parameters, such as tube current (mA), SOD and varying concentrations (300, 320, 350) of contrast medium dilution into SNR and CNR values while analyzing the coefficients of variance(cv<10). The software used to measure SNR and CNR values was Image J 1.50i from NIH (National Institutes of Health, USA). MPV (mean pixel value) and SD (standard deviation) were used after verifying numerically the image signal for region of interest (ROI) and background on phantom from the DICOM (digital imaging and communications in medicine) 3.0 file transmitted to PACS. As to contrast medium dilution by the change of tube current, when 146 mA and 102 mA were compared, For both SNR and CNR, the coefficient of variation value was less than 10 until the section of CM: N/S dilution (100% ~ 30% : 70%) but CM: N/S dilution rate (20%: 80% ~ 10% : 90%) the coefficient of variation was 10 or more. As to contrast medium dilution by concentration for SOD change, when SOD's (32.5 cm and 22.5 cm) were compared,For both SNR and CNR, the coefficient of variation value was less than 10 until the section of CM: N/S dilution (100% ~ 30% : 70%) but CM: N/S dilution rate (20%: 80% ~ 10% : 90%) the coefficient of variation was 10 or more. As to contrast medium dilution by concentration for SOD change, when SOD's (32.5 cm and 12.5 cm) were compared,For both SNR and CNR, the coefficient of variation value was less than 10 until the section of CM: N/S dilution (100% ~ 30% : 70%) but CM: N/S dilution rate (20%: 80% ~ 10% : 90%) the coefficient of variation was 10 or more. As a result, set a low tube current value in other tests or procedures including peripheral angiography of the lower extremities in the intervention, and make the table as close as possible to the image receiver, and adjust the contrast agent concentration (300) to CM: N/S dilution (30%: 70%). ) Is suggested as the most efficient way to obtain images with an appropriate concentration while simultaneously reducing the burden on the kidney and the burden on exposure.

  • In this study, the erosional parameters for deposit beds were quantitatively estimated domestically for the first time through the erosion tests using an annular flume. Four erosion tests were carried out for the deposit beds with different consolidation structures, which were obtained by consolidating the kaolinite slurries for a given time durations. Results of erosion tests showed that the bed shear strength ${\tau}_s$ increased with the consolidation time and bed depth. The erosion rate ${\epsilon}$ was also shown to be related well with the excess shear stress ${\tau}_b-{\tau}_s$ which was given by the difference between flow shear stress ${\tau}_b$ and bed shear strength ${\tau}_s$. While the logarithm of the erosion rate was linearly related with the excess shear stress as ${\tau}_b-{\tau}_s{\geq}0.1N/m^2$, however, the erosion rate decreased rapidly with it when ${\tau}_b-{\tau}_s{\leq}0.1N/m^2$. These erosion test results were also shown to be good enough to verify by comparing with the test results from previous studies and a new equation was suggested to describe the erosion rate more well in the region of ${\tau}_b-{\tau}_s{\leq}0.1N/m^2$.

  • The kinetics of the reaction of benzyl m-nitrobenzenesulfonate with m-and p-substituted N,N-dimethylanilines in acetone have been investigated by an electric conductivity method. The effects of substituents on the reactivity of N,N-dimethylaniline and the existence of linear free energy relationship were discussed. The rate constants k were in the range 2.55∼487 $10^{-4}l{\cdot}mol^{-l}{\cdot}sec^{-1} (35^{\circ}C)$ and increased with the electron donating ability of substituents. In the present reaction, the Hammett plot was correlated with ${\sigma}$ substituent constant, especially using the new ${\sigma}$ value of 0.35 in p-MeO and it's ${\rho}$ value was found to be -1.37. r value for the reaction was very large than the value obtained in the reaction of benzyl bromide. $Br{\"{o}}nsted$ linear relationship was shown between rate constant and basicites except for p-MeO resulted from solvent effect. From the Bronsted plot, this reaction was suggested that the cleavage of the C${\cdot}{\cdot}{\cdot}$O bond in the $S_N2$ transition state proceed the bond formation.

  • Streptococcus is one of the major pathogen groups inducing bovine mastitis. The aim of this study was to investigate the antimicrobial resistance patterns of Streptococcus species isolated from bovine mastitis milk samples in Korea from 2016 to 2021. In total, 181 (10.3%) Streptococcal isolates were collected from 1,761 quarter milk samples at 122 farms; S. uberis 39.2% (n=71), S. dysgalactiae 29.3% (n=53), S. equinus 9.9% (n=18), S. suis 6.1% (n=11), S. parauberis 4.4% (n=8), S. lutetiensis 3.9% (n=7), others 7.2% (n=13). However, S. agalactiae was not isolated. The isolates showed the highest resistance rate to tetracycline (55.2%) followed by erythromycin (45.3%) and pirlimycin (36.5%). In contrast, all isolates were susceptible to ceftiofur, cephalothin, penicillin/novobiocin, and only single S. equinus isolate was resistant to both ampicillin and penicillin. Of 181 isolates, 64 (35.4%) were multidrug resistance (MDR). The resistance to pirlimycin of S. uberis (73.2%) was much higher than that of other species (0~36.4%). All S. suis isolates were resistance to tetracycline. S. dysgalactiae showed lower resistance to erythromycin, pirlimycin and tetracycline than S. uberis and S. suis. The rate of MDR was relatively higher among S. uberis (73.2%) than among S. suis (36.4%), S. dysgalactiae (15.1%), others (0%). In conclusion, antimicrobial resistance in Streptococcus spp. should be regularly examined for appropriate therapies because the resistance patterns were various among the individual species.
