  • Locals of Control is considered one of the main imporment factors on responsible environmental behaviors(REB). It is defined as an individual's perception of his or ha ability to bring about change through his a her behavior. This psychological construct is divided in two, external and internal. Internal locus of control(ILOC) is imporment as predictor for responsible environmental behaviors. This study was conducted to investigate the Locus of Control and relations with REB in Undergraduate Students. The data were collected mainly through questionnaires and a total of 157 responded questionnaires was analyzed for the study. The statistical methods used in this study were frequency, percentile and correlation. The major findings of this study were (1) Most of undergraduate students had internal locus of control(75.2%). (2) According to region, rural students showed high levels in ILOC and REB.

  • This study aims to classify agricultural entrepreneurship preparation patterns for middle-aged adults and to explore their demographic characteristics, occupational characteristics, and agricultural entrepreneurship related variables. The result of the study follows: first, agricultural entrepreneurship preparation patterns were divided into three types of urban-born farming, rural-born farming, retirement farming. Second, these patterns showed significant differences according to the level of demographic and occupational characteristics. Third, these patterns also showed considerable differences depending on the level of agricultural entrepreneurship expectancies, agricultural entrepreneurship volition, and agricultural entrepreneurship barriers. Based on the results, diversified agricultural entrepreneurship education programs and support measures were suggested.

  • This study was designed to find out consumers' behavior towards eco-friendly processed foods and to investigate the relationship between consumers' purchase intention of eco-friendly and organic processed foods, depending on the country of origin. Five hundred consumers were taken from all over the country for an empirical analysis. The results indicate that consumers' satisfaction with a certificate system of eco-friendly products is relatively high. In addition, it is found that consumers give more credit to the safety of domestic organic foods than imported organic foods. The study implies that consumers perceiving the importance of the country of origin are more likely to buy domestic organic foods. Furthermore, the importance of the country of origin and age have a positive relationship with the purchase intention of domestic organic foods.

  • Objectives: Corticosteroids, usually as an inhaled form, are usually used to treat narrowed airway in the treatment of asthma. However, the use of corticosteroid commonly associated with the development of osteoporosis. In this study, we studied the association of asthma and osteoporosis in the residents of the local community. Methods: As a part of the Local Community Health Study Chungnam 2008, the residents are surveyed with the formal questionnaire. We analyzed the association between asthma and osteoporosis data with the questionnaire. Results: We analyzed total 6,348 data from the residents in Chungnam province. Of them, 203(3.2%) were asthma patients and 465(7.3%) were osteoporosis patients. Patients with asthma have more advanced age(p<0.001), higher incidence of hypertension(p<0.001) and diabetes(p=0.001), lower incidence of exercise(p=0.002) and economic activity(p<0.001). Patients with osteoporosis have more advanced age (p<0.001), female predominance(p<0.001), higher incidence of hypertension (p<0.001), diabetes(p=0.001), and fractures (p<0.001), lower incidence of exercise (p=0.002) and economic activity (p<0.001). In total population, asthma is associated with the increased incidence of osteoporosis, especially in patients treated with anti-asthmatic medications. Conclusions: Through this study, we demonstrated the presence of asthma is closely associated with the increased incidence of osteoporosis, especially in patients treated with anti-asthmatic medications. Therefore, further and broad study will be needed to evaluate the association of asthma and the types of anti-asthmatic medications in the development of osteoporosis.

  • Objectives: This study was to identify socioeconomic factors and health-related behaviors influencing on HRQOL(health-related quality of life) for the older adults in rural area. Methods: 483 subjects aged over 65 years responded a direct interview, which covered HRQOL, BMI, socioeconomic characteristics, and health-related behaviors including smoking, drinking, and exercise. Results: Overall, the mean number of healthy days were 15.1 days and not significantly different by sex. Men didn't show a significant difference in HRQOL by age group. But women reported lower levels of healthy days and higher levels of activity limitation and physical unhealthy days with increasing age. Results from ANCOVA showed HRQOL to be significantly associated with education, job, and family type. Men presented no significant difference in HRQOL by health-related behaviors, but women who have been drinking, or have less number of chronic diseases reported higher mean healthy days and lower activity limitation days, physical unhealthy days, and mental unhealthy days. Older adults who reported good to excellent self-rated health were higher healthy days and lower activity limitation, physical unhealthy days, and mental unhealthy days than those who reported fair to poor health status. Conclusions: The HRQOL for the older adults in rural area was related to socioeconomic characteristics, health-related behaviors and self-rated health status. A better understanding of factors related to HRQOL would help to improve the older adults' quality of life.

  • This study investigated definition of care farming in which advanced countries in agricultural industry such as Netherlands and Belgium increase their interest and investment, and established a strategy for settlement and development of care farming industry in Korea. For achieving purpose of the study, literature review was implemented to analyze policy, system, related law, workforce of advanced countries in care farming, and experts' conference which consists of 9 representatives such as professors, researchers in areas of agriculture, health, education, horticulture, animal-assisted therapy was implemented. Also survey was conducted targeting 165 people of practitioners in care farming industry. For the result, the concept of care farming in Korea was defined as 'Industry and activity which promotes psychological social physical cognitive health of every Korean people by utilizing agricultural resources(plants, livestock, rural environment, rural culture) or related activity and output', and the purpose, resources, targets of care farming was determined by the definition.

  • The development of agricultural land at Saemangeum has required a significant increase in agricultural water use. It has been well acknowledged that salinity plays a critical role in the farming system. Therefore, a systematic study in salinity is necessary to better manage agricultural water. This study aims to develop a stochastic salinity simulation model that simultaneously simulates salinities obtained from different layers. More specifically, this study proposed a two-stage Autoregressive Exgeneous (ARX) model within a hierarchical Bayesian modeling framework. We derived posterior distributions of model parameters and further used them to obtain the predictive posterior distribution for salinities at three different layers. Here, the BIC values are used and compared to determine the optimal model from a set of candidate models. A detailed discussion of the model is provided.

  • We investigated the effect of the Geum river Estuary Barrage, on the migration and spawning of the Chinese mitten crab from May 2007 to January 2009. The larvae were caught on May in the lower reachs of the estuary barrage, but the juveniles were not collected in the upper reaches of the estuary barrage. Adult crabs arrived at the Geum river estuary for spawning in early September, and spawned between March and April. Therefor if there are corridors which let the juveniles move to the upper stream, the crab population might be restored to the former state that they grow up to adults in the freshwater, and could be migrated easily to marine habitat for spawning.
