Double Enveloping Worm Thread Tooth Machining Study using Full Face Contact Cutting Tool (전체면 접촉 절삭공구를 이용한 장구형 웜나사 치형가공 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose the generation of a double enveloping worm thread profile with a non-developable ruled surface. Thread surface machining cuts all the way from the tip to the tooth root at one time, like full-face contact machining, rather than cutting several times like point machining. This cutting can reduce the cutting duration and achieve the smooth surface that does not require a grinding process for the threaded surface. The mathematical model of the cutting process was developed from theoretical equations, and the tooth surface was generated using two parameters and modeled in the CATIA using the generated Excel data. Additionally, the machining process of the worm was simulated in a numerical control simulation system. To verify the validity of the proposed method, the deviation between the modeling and the workpiece was measured using a 3D measuring machine.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new method to construct a parametric surface in terms of curves and points lying on Euclidean 3-space, called a C0-Hermite surface interpolation. We also prove the existence of a C0-Hermite interpolation of isoparametric surfaces with the so-called marching scale functions, and give some examples. Finally, we construct ruled surfaces and surfaces foliated by a circle as an isoparametric surface.

  • This study describes the geometric characteristic and the 5-axis machining method of end mill body with insert tip. The geometry of end mill body is consisted of the flute part and the insert tip part. Thus, this study defines the flute part as ruled surface with constant helix angle and the insert tip part as rectangular plane on general direction. The geometric algorithm and the 5-axis NC part program were calculated by our programmed software and a sampled end mill body was machined on 5-axis machining center equipped with two index tables. The machined end mill body with insert tip was very agreeable to the designed end mill body with insert tip. Thus, the method proposed in this study may be very useful for the machining of end mill body with insert tip.

  • This paper presents an efficient 5-axis roughing method for centrifugal impeller. The efficient roughing is minimization of cutting time through minimizing tool tilting and rotating motions. To minimized cutting time, machining area is divided into sub-cutting regions using control points on hub curves and shroud curves of blade used to design and analyze centrifugal impeller. For sub-cutting regions, diameters of cutting tools are determined as big as possible. Then, tool paths are generated with the tilting axis and rotating axis of 5-axis machine limited and fixed, which can give more efficient machining speed and machining stability than the conventional methods. Experimental results show that the proposed method is more efficient than the conventional methods to mill with the only one cutting tool without dividing area and the previous methods to mill with simultaneous 5-axis processing with dividing area.

  • This paper presents an efficient 5-axis roughing method for centrifugal impeller. The efficient roughing is minimization of cutting time through minimizing tool tilting & rotating motions. Roughing tool path plan consists of the three steps. First, machining areas are divided into sub cutting regions using ruling lines. The biggest tool diameter is, then, determined for each region. Finally, tool paths are generated after fixing the tilting and rotating axis of 5-axis machine. Experimental results showed that the proposed roughing plan considering the divided machining regions is more efficient than the conventional methods.

  • An efficient method of machining impeller is presented. In the roughing process, the cutting area is divided into two regions to reduce cutting time and select cutting tools. The regions are determined by characteristic point on the geometry of impeller blade. Then, the tool of the maximum radius is selected in each area. Tool interference in cutting areas is avoided by checking the intersection between cooing tool axis and ruling line on blade surface.

Image-Based Approach for Modeling 3D Shapes with Curved Surfaces (곡면을 포함하는 형상의 영상을 이용한 모델링)

  • In this paper, we propose an image-based method for modeling 3D objects with curved surfaces based on the NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines) representation. Starting from a few calibrated images, the user specifies the corresponding curves by means of an interactive user interface. Then, the 3D curves are reconstructed using stereo reconstruction. In order to fit the curves easily using the interactive user interface, NURBS curves and surfaces are employed. The proposed surface modeling techniques include surface building methods such as bilinear surfaces, ruled surfaces, generalized cylinders, and surfaces of revolution. In addition to these methods, we also propose various advanced surface modeling techniques, including skinned surfaces, swept surfaces, and boundary patches. Based on these surface modeling techniques, it is possible to build various types of 3D shape models with textured curved surfaces without much effort. Also, it is possible to reconstruct more realistic surfaces by using proposed view-dependent texture acquisition algorithm. Constructed 3D shape model with curves and curved surfaces can be exported in VRML format, making it possible to be used in different 3D graphics softwares.

  • Cracks are typical defects that occur in concrete structures. When cracks occur in the structure, durability reduction, concrete neutralization, and steel corrosion cause functional safety problems. In order to prevent such cracks, surface repair method is performed for cracks smaller than 0.3 mm and rechargeable method is performed for cracks larger than 0.3 mm. However, even if it is applied by the surface repair method at less than 0.3 mm, re-leakage cracks continue to occur. Recently, the Supreme Court ruled that the rechargeable method should be applied to cracks less than 0.3mm in order to reduce the occurrence of defects. However, it was considered that the repair fees were too high relative to the observed defect rate, resulting in a necessitation of modifying the existing construction analysis administration standards. This study analyzes the differences in the subjective views on the durability degradation with regards to surface repair methods in concrete structures.

  • This paper proposes a roughing path generation method fer machining impeller with 5-axis machining center. Traditional researches are focus on finishing for machining impeller. To achieve efficient machining, roughing method must be studied. The proposed method consists two steps : One is to select optimal tool size and tool attitude by dividing cutting area into two regions to reduce cutting time. The regions are automatically divided by character point on the geometry of impeller blade. After dividing, the tool of the optimal size is selected for each divided region. The other is avoidance of tool interference. Tool interference in cutting areas is avoided by checking the distance between tool axis vector and ruling line on blade surface or approximated plan between ruling line. Using this method, the cutting time is reduced efficiently.

Fabrication and Characteristics of Microlens using Thermal Reflow Method (Thermal Reflow법에 의한 마이크로렌즈의 제작 및 그 특성)

  • We studied the characteristics and fabricated the plano-convex refractive microlenses using the thermal reflow method. The exposed resist was resolved in a standard developing process. The remaining resist of circle pattern was melted in an oven 12$0^{\circ}C$ to 15$0^{\circ}C$. The shape of the melted resist microlenses is ruled by surface tension. Diameter and hight of the fabricated microlenses were 250${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to 325${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 15${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to 22${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, respectively. The surface profile was calculated using data curve-fitting method with circle equation. The optical characteristics was analysed using optical simulation program.
