Recently ship safety regulations are being reinforced to improve maritime safety and to prevent maritime pollution by International Maritime Organization. It means that the regulation is becoming more proactive rather than reactive. In the mean time, design philosophy is also moving from rule based design to performance and simulation based design. In this paper, a study on practical application of the damage safety assessment system is carried out. The damage stability and the survivability of a cargo ship that was designed based on current regulation is investigated using performance based design tools in order to improve the safety of the design and verify the performance of the developed damage safety assessment system. To do this, damage scenarios is established and the characteristics and geometry the cargo ship is modeled. A new design alternative is proposed with small change in the internal arrangement based on safety evaluation results of the current design.
For CAD data users, few things are as frustrating as receiving CAD data that is unusable due to poor data quality. Users waste time trying to get better data, fixing the data, or even rebuilding the data from scratch from paper drawings or other sources. Most related works and commercial tools handle the boundary representation (B-Rep) shape of CAD models. However, we propose a design history?based approach for healing CAD model errors. Because the design history, which covers the features, the history tree, the parameterization data and constraints, reflects the design intent, CAD model errors can be healed by an interdependency analysis of the feature commands or of the parametric data of each feature command, and by the reconstruction of these feature commands through the rule-based reasoning of an expert system. Unlike other B Rep correction methods, our method automatically heals parametric feature models without translating them to a B-Rep shape, and it also preserves engineering information.
Parametric design is an important modeling paradigm in CAD/CAM applications, enabling efficient design modifications and variations. One of the major issues in parametric design is to develop a geometric constraint solver that can handle a large set of geometric configurations efficiently and robustly. In this appear, we propose a new approach to geometric constraint solving that employs a graph-based method to solve the ruler-and-compass constructible configurations and a numerical method to solve the ruler-and-compass non-constructible configurations, in a way that combines the advantages of both methods. The geometric constraint solving process consists of two phases: 1) planning phase and 2) execution phase. In the planning phase, a sequence of construction steps is generated by clustering the constrained geometric entities and reducing the constraint graph in sequence. in the execution phase, each construction step is evaluated to determine the geometric entities, using both approaches. By combining the advantages of the graph-based constructive approach with the universality of the numerical approach, the proposed approach can maximize the efficiency, robustness, and extensibility of geometric constraint solver.
This paper presents an automated methodology for campus network design and performance analysis using the rule-based SES and DEVS modeling & simulation techniques. Proposed methodology for structural design and performance analysis can be utilized not only in the early stage of network design for selecting configurable candidate from all possible design alternatives, but also in simulation verification for generating performance data. Our approach supercedes conventional methodologies in that, first, it can support the configuration automation by utilizing the knowledge of design expert ; second, it can provide the simulation-based performance evaluation ; third, it is established on the basis of the well-formalized framework so that it can support a hierarchical and modular system design. Several simulation tests performed on a campus network example will illustrate our technique.
This paper proposes an ant-based routing algorithm, Ant System-Routing in wireless Senor Networks(AS-RSN), for wireless sensor networks. Using a transition rule in Ant System, sensors can spread data traffic over the whole network to achieve energy balance, and consequently, maximize the lifetime of sensor networks. The transition rule advances one of the original Ant System by re-defining link cost which is a metric devised to consider energy-sufficiency as well as energy-efficiency. This metric gives rise to the design of the AS-RSN algorithm devised to balance the data traffic of sensor networks in a decentralized manner and consequently prolong the lifetime of the networks. Therefore, AS-RSN is scalable in the number of sensors and also robust to the variations in the dynamics of event generation. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm by comparing three existing routing algorithms: Direct Communication Approach, Minimum Transmission Energy, and Self-Organized Routing and find that energy balance should be considered to extend lifetime of sensor network and increase robustness of sensor network for diverse event generation patterns.

A design method of rule-based fuzzy modeling is presented for the model identification of complex and nonlinear systems. Three kinds of method for fuzzy modeling presented in this paper include simplified inference (type 1), linear inference (type 2), and modified linear inference (type 3). The fuzzy c-means clustering and modified complex methods are used in order to identify the preise structure and parameter of fuzzy implication rules, respectively and the least square method is utilized for the identification of optimal consequence parameters. Time series data for gas funace and sewage treatment processes are used to evaluate the performances of the proposed rule-based fuzzy modeling.
The control process involving pure time delays presents a continuing challenge to the control system engineer. The nonlinear nature of the delay which can be introduced into the system make the use of conventional control algorithms a poor prospect. The Smith Predictor was developed to alleviate this problem. Unfortunately the quality of control achieved with the Smith Predictor is known to be sensitive to modelling errors. Only recently have researchers attempted to quantify the Smith Predictor controller's robustness to modelling errors. In several studies stability boundaries were plotted as functions of errors in parameters. But the research results address the question of performance of Smith Predictor controllers, In this paper, the Rule based Expert Systems for performance improvement of the Smith Predictor controller are developed.
In this paper, building information modelling (BIM) associated to the principle of significant items emerged at quantities and costs in the optimization of productivity related to the rehabilitation of the building where proposed and discussed. A quantitative and qualitative study related to the field of application based on some parameters such as pathology diagnosis, projects documents and bills of quantities were used for model development at the preliminary stage of this work. The study identified 14 quantities significant items specified to cost value based on the use of the 80/20 Pareto rule, through the integration of building information modelling (BIM) in the optimisation of labour productivity for rehabilitation of buildings. The results of this study reveal the reliability and the improvement of labour productivity using building information modelling process integrating quantities and cost significant items.
This paper addresses the analysis and design of fuzzy control systems for a class of complex nonlinear systems. Firstly, the nonlinear system is represented by Takagi-Sugeno(TS) fuzzy model and the global controller is constructed by compensating each linear model in the rule of TS fuzzy model. The design of conventional TS fuzzy-model-based controller is composed of two processes. One is to determine the static state feedback gain of each local model and the other is to validate the stability of the designed fuzzy controller. In this paper, we propose an alternative methods for the design of TS fuzzy-model-based controller. The design scheme is based on the extension of conventional optimal control theory to the design of TS fuzzy-model-based controller. By using the proposed method, the design and stability analysis of the TS fuzzy model-based controller is reduced to the problem of finding the solution of a set of algebraic Riccati equations. And we use the recently developed interior point method to find the solution of AREs, where AREs are recast as the LMI formulation. A numerical simulation example is given to show the effectiveness and feasibiltiy of the proposed fuzzy controller design method.
