  • We explored a new rough grinding technique on optics materials such as Zerodur. The facility used is a NANOFORM-600 diamond turning machine with a custom grinding module and a range of diamond resin bond wheel. The grinding parameters such as workpiece rotation speed, depth of cut and feed rate were altered while grinding the workpiece surfaces of 20mm in diameter. Surface roughness was measured by Form Talysurf series2. Our target is to define grinding conditions producing the surface roughness smaller than $0.2{\mu}m$ Ra.

  • In order to investigate the residual stress evolution during the leveling process of hot rolled high strength coils for cold forming, the in-plane residual stress of plate sampled at SPM, rough leveler and finish leveler were measured by cutting method. Residual stress was localized near the edge of plate. As the thickness of plate was increased, the size of residual stress region was expanded. The gradient of residual stress within the plate was reduced during the leveling process. But the residual stress itself was not removed completely within the ranges of tested conditions. The exact camber of cut plate was able to be predicted by the measurement of residual stress distribution after leveling of the plate.

  • It has been almost impossible to predict the fatigue life in the field of rubber materials by numerical methods. One of the reasons is that there are no obvious fracture criteria and excessively various ways of mixing processes. Tearing energy is considered as a fracture criterion which can be applied to rubber compounds regardless of different types of fillers, relative to other fracture factors. Fatigue life of rubber materials can be approximately predicted based on the assumption that the latent defect caused by contaminants or voids in the matrix, imperfectly dispersed compounding ingredients, mold lubricants and surface flaws always exists. Numerical expression for the prediction of fatigue life was derived from the rate of rough cut growth region and the formulated tearing energy equation. Endurance test data for dumbbell specimens were compared with the predicted fatigue life for verification. Also, fatigue life of industrial rubber components was predicted.

  • End-milling have been used widely in industrial system because it is effective to a material manufacturing with various shape. Recently the end-milling processing is needed the high-precise technique with good surface roughness and rapid time in precision machine part and electronic part. The optimum surface roughness has an effect on end-milling condition such as, cutting direction spindle speed, feed rate and depth of cut, etc. Therefore this study was carried out to presume for mutual relation of end-milling condition to get the optimum surface roughness by regression analysis. The results shown that coefficient of determination($\textrm{R}^2$) of regression equation has a fine reliability of 87.5% and regression equation of surface rough is made by regression analysis.

  • Understanding the frictional properties of rock discontinuities is crucial to ensure the stability of underground structures. In particular, the frictional behavior at depth depends on the complex interaction among mechanical, hydraulic, thermal and chemical characteristics and their coupled effects. In this study, a series of shear tests were carried out in a triaxial compression chamber to investigate the shearing behavior of saw-cut granite surface and rough shear surface of synthetic rocks. The test results were analyzed using Coulomb's shear strength criterion. The frictional behavior of saw-cut granite surface showed little variation at different confining, water pressures and temperature conditions, however in case of synthetic rocks, the frictional behavior showed different trend depending on normal stress level. In addition, the variation of stiffness and dilation at different testing conditions were analyzed, and the stiffness and dilation showed little variation at different water pressures and temperature conditions.

  • In wire-electrical discharge machining (W-EDM), the dielectric plays an important role as the working fluid. It affects the material removal rate and the properties of the machined surface. This paper deals with the effects of the electrical conductivity of dielectric and cobalt percentage of sintered carbides on the machining characteristics and the machined surface integrities with deionized water as dielectric. A series of experiments have been performed on sintered carbides having different cobalt contents. Experimental results show that a higher cobalt content of WC decreases the metal removal rate and worsens the surface quality. Lower electrical conductivity of the dielectric results in a higher metal removal rate as the gap between wire electrode and workpiece reduced. Especially, the surface integrities of rough-cut workpiece, wire electrode, and debris were analyzed also through scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and surface roughness tester. By energy dispersive spectrometry(EDS), it is confirmed that micro cracks and some of electrode material are found on the workpiece surface.

  • Titanium micro-mesh implants are widely used in orbital wall reconstructions because they have several advantageous characteristics. However, the rough and irregular marginal spurs of the cut edges of the titanium mesh sheet impede the efficacious and minimally traumatic insertion of the implant, because these spurs may catch or hook the orbital soft tissue, skin, or conjunctiva during the insertion procedure. In order to prevent this problem, we developed an easy method of inserting a titanium micro-mesh, in which it is wrapped with the aseptic transparent plastic film that is used to pack surgical instruments or is attached to one side of the inner suture package. Fifty-four patients underwent orbital wall reconstruction using a transconjunctival or transcutaneous approach. The wrapped implant was easily inserted without catching or injuring the orbital soft tissue, skin, or conjunctiva. In most cases, the implant was inserted in one attempt. Postoperative computed tomographic scans showed excellent placement of the titanium micro-mesh and adequate anatomic reconstruction of the orbital walls. This wrapping insertion method may be useful for making the insertion of titanium micro-mesh implants in the reconstruction of orbital wall fractures easier and less traumatic.

  • In this study, the fabrication of large area silicon mirror is accomplished by anisotropic etching using MEMS for implementation of integrated optical pickup and the process condition is also established for improving the mirror surface roughness. Until now, few results have been reported about the production of highly stepped $9.74^{\circ}$ off-axis-cut silicon wafer using wet etching. In addition rough surface of the mirror is achieved in case of long etching time. Hence a novel method called magnetorheolocal finishing is introduced to enhancing the surface quality of the mirror plane. Finally, areal peak to valley surface roughness of mirror plane is reduced about 100nm in large area of $mm^2$ and it is applicable to optical pickup using infrared wavelength.

  • The pure Ti is taken annealing process for one hour at 90$0^{\circ}C$. The pure Ti is sufficient for ASTM B348 Grade2. The rolling mill roll the Ti-8Ta-3Nb(wt%) which became vacuum melting in arc furnace until the length is about 45mm and the thickness is about 6.05mm. Then it is made 6mm$\times$6mm$\times$44mm by wire cutting with EDM and it is made ∮ 6mm by rough cutting with the general purpose lathe. The machining accuracy of implant parts in the dental and medical science are decided by dimension, shpe, straightness, surface roughness. It is difficult to cut for the Ti alloy. It is caused problems of straight degree and surface roughness to the Ti alloy have many cases which length is smaller than diameter in cutting. Total 24 specimens different kind of 4 alloies are used in experiment to gain a cutting property. According to the cutting velocity, cutting depth, cutting temperature, feed and clearance angle experiments are performed. Conclusively it is expected that cutting depth of 0.5mm, feed velocity of 0.07mm/rev and cutting velocity of 80m/min could make a suitable result.
