COUETTE FLOW OF TWO IMMISCIBLE LIQUIDS BETWEEN TWO PARALLEL POROUS PLATES IN A ROTATING CHANNEL

  • When a straight channel formed by two parallel porous plates, through which two immiscible liquids occupying different heights are flowing a secondary motion is set up. The motion is caused by moving the upper plate with a uniform velocity about an axis perpendicular to the plates. The solutions are exact solutions. Here we discuss the effect of suction parameter and the position of interface on the flow phenomena in case of Couette flow. The velocity distributions for the primary and secondary flows have been discussed and presented graphically. The skin-friction amplitude at the upper and lower plates has been discussed for various physical parameters.

Wafer 반송용 End-Effector의 FEM 해석 및 파지력 제어에 관한 연구 (A Study on the FEM Analysis and Gripping Force Control of End-Effector for the Wafer Handling Robot System)

  • On this study, an E.E(End-Effector) for the 300 mm wafer transfer robot system is newly suggested. It is a mechanical type with $180^{\circ}$ rotating ranges and is composed of 3-point arms, two plate springs and single-axis DC motor controlled by microchip. To design, relationship between the gripping force and the wafer deformation is analyzed by FEM. By analytic results, the gripping force for 300 mm wafer is confirmed as 255~274 gf. From experimental results on gripping force, repeatable position accuracy and gripping cycle times in a wafer cleaning system, we confirmed that the suggested E.E was well designed to satisfiy on the required performance for 300 mm wafer transfer robot system.

보급형 He-Ne 타원해석기의 제작과 $TiO_2$ 박막 유효밀도 변화의 in-situ 측정 (Fabrication of He-Ne ellipsometer and in-situ measurement of effective density variation of $TiO_2$thin films)

  • We have fabricated an in situ ellipsometer operating at He-Ne wavelength. It can be applied to the real-time, in-situ tracking of the ellisometric change which occurs during various sample treatments. As a rotating analyzer type, all optical elements and related parts are designed to share a common hollow-axis configuration, and hence the ellipsometer is compact in shape and simple in design. It is mountable on the spare ports of vacuum chamber with ease. Using this ellipsometer, we observed the effective density variation of previously grown $TiO_2$ thin films by using electron beam evaporation. The packing density of the as-grown film was 82%. When exposed to atomsphere, the micro-void of the film was filled with water vapor. This water-filled $TiO_2$ thin film was subject to heating/cooling cycles in vacuum and the ellipsometric variation versus temperature and cycling number was measured in real time using this in situ He-Ne ellipsometer.

Integrated-Optic Polarization Controlling Devices Using Electro-Optic Polymers

  • Integrated-optic polarization controlling devices such as polarizers, polarization splitters, and polarization converters, are proposed and demonstrated in nonlinear optic polymers. Poling-induced birefringence in electro-optic polymers is exploited to fabricate the devices. The polymeric waveguide polarizers show low excess losses, and extinction ratios of 20.7 dB and 17.1 dB for TM-pass and TE-pass polarizers, respectively. The polymeric waveguide polarization splitters exhibit TE-TM mode splittings with crosstalk of 14.2 dB and 10.1 dB for TM and TE mode splittings, respectively. The polymeric waveguide polarization converters show successful TE/TM polarization mode conversion with conversion efficiencies of higher than 30 dB. The device employs poling-induced waveguides which have slowly rotating azimuth angle of optic axis along the light propagation direction. The novel polarization converter is insensitive to wavelength and easier to fabricate than the other polarization converters containing periodic structures.

  • Two and three-dimensional flows around a cross-flow wind turbine are investigated by the numerical simulation. The turbine studied in this paper has cylindrical shape with many small blades along its periphery. Incompressible Navier-Stokes equation is used for this simulation. A rotating coordinate system, which rotates at the same speed of the turbine, is used in order to simplify the boundary conditions on the blades of the turbine. Additionally, a boundary fitted coordinate system is employed in order to express the shape of the blades precisely. A third order upwind scheme is chosen for the approximation of the non-linear terms. When the number of blades is about 10, the highest torque is obtained.

건식 필름 적층 성형기에서 고온 롤러의 열해석 (Thermal Analysis of Hot Roller in a Dry Film Laminator)

  • The thermal analysis of the hot roller in a dry film laminator is studied numerically by steady-state two-dimensional heat transfer. In the laminating process for PDP glass or PCB, the temperature distributions in a hot roller are presented considering the effects of the roller rotation speed and the inner and outer radii of the roller. The results show that the temperature distributions are strongly dependent on Peclet number. If Pe number becomes larger, the iso-thermal lines are more concentric about the rotating axis and the temperature difference on the hot roller surface decreases exponentially. It also shows that if the contact angle between the roller and the film becomes smaller the temperature difference becomes smaller. However, the changes of the rollers inner or outer radius have little effect on the temperature difference.

가열된 금속표면에 놓인 증발하는 액적의 내부유동 가시화 (Internal flow visualization of an evaporating droplet placed on heated metal plate)

  • This study aims to visualize the Marangoni flow inside a droplet placed on heated hydrophobic surface and to measure its internal velocity field. The experimental result shows that the internal velocity increases with the increase of the plate temperature. In addition, the temperature difference induces the initial flow and drives the Marangoni circulation inside the droplet as soon as the evaporation starts (i.e. the thermal Marangoni flow). The fluorescence particles in the droplet trace two large-scale counter-rotating vortex pairs yielding the downwards flow along the vertical central axis. These vortex pairs gradually become small and move towards the contact line as time goes by, and this Marangoni flow sustains only for a half of the total evaporation time.

  • This paper concerns a 2-axis PR type pneumatic manipulator system translating in vertical and rotating in horizontal directions. A simplified linear model is mathematically formulated similar to the pneumatic acturators in dynamic responses in order to devise an appropriate position control scheme. A PD controller preceding the on/off solenoid valve turns out not only economical but also effective in reducing rise time and amplitude of limit cycles, if its control gains are determined on the basis of frequency response. And, additional implementation of symmetric or asymmetric deadband at the PD controller output greatly helps minimize valve opening numbers, positional error, and undesirable direction-dependent property due to the gravitational load. Such a control concept is synthesized through numerical simulations and next applied to the experimental set-up, featuring enhanced positional servo characteristics.

Impact를 이용한 정밀 고속 회전체 불평형 보정 (Correction of Mass Unbalance of a High Precision Rotor)

  • The unbalanced mass of a high precision rotor deteriorates mechanical performance of the rotor. The geometrical center of a rotor generally corresponds to the rotational axis of the rotor. However, this alignment carried out with a stationary rotor does not guarantee the dynamic rotor balance. There have been a number of schemes for the correction of the unbalance published for decades especially in the hard drive industry where the issues are directly affecting manufacturing costs and product performances. Realizing the significance of the problem, the present work tries to refine one of the methods that works by applying external impact during a rotor spins. A systematic way to apply the external impact to a rotating rotor has been introduced to minimize unbalance correction process time.

회전지능보의 능동진동제어 (Active Vibration Control of Slewing Smart Beam)

  • This research is concerned with the active vibration control of slewing smart structures subjected to rotating disturbance. When cantilever beam rotates about axes perpendicular to the undeformed beam's longitudinal axis, it experiences inertial loading. Hence, the beam vibrates after the slewing ends. In this paper, the analytical model for a single slewing flexible beam with surface bonded piezoelectric sensor and actuator is developed using the Hamilton's principle with discretization by the assumed mode method. The theoretial model is verified by the experimental open loop frequency response data. The controller is designed for residual vibration suppression after slewing. The designed cotroller is a positive position feedback (PPF) controller for controlling the first mode vibration.
