TAC Film as a Key Component for LCDs

  • TAC film is an indispensable optical component that protects the polarizing PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) film from being deteriorated and gives high durability, due to its unique features. The newly developed technology of controlling the birefringence of TAC film, together with the coating technology of a discotic material layer, enables excellent viewing angle characteristics and a cost-effective roll-to-roll polarizer manufacturing process.

그라비아 인쇄물의 망점 형성을 위한 포토레지스터 코팅층의 레이저 직접 페터닝 (Laser Direct Patterning of Photoresist Layer for Halftone Dots of Gravure Printing Roll)

  • Laser direct patterning of the coated photoresit (PMER-NSG31B) layer was studied to make halftone dots on gravure printing roll. The selective laser hardening of photoresist by Ar-ion laser(wavelength : 333.6nm∼363.8nm) was controlled by the A/O modulator. The coating thickness in the range of 5㎛∼11㎛ could be obtained by using the up-down directional moving device along the vertically located roll. The width, thickness and hardness of the hardened lines formed under laser power of 200∼260㎽ and irradiation time of 4.4∼6.6$\mu$ sec/point were investigated after developing. The hardened width increased according to the increase of coating thickness. Though the hardened thickness was changed due to the effect of the developing solution, the hardened layer showed good resistance to the scratching of 2H pencil. Also, the hardened minimum line widths of 10㎛ could be obtained. The change of line width was also found after etching, and the minimum line widths of 6㎛ could be obtained. The hardened lines showed the good resistance to the etching solution. Finally, the experimental data could be applied to make gravure halftone dots using the developed imaging process, successfully.

Linear Ion Beam Applications for Roll-to-Roll Metal Thin Film Coatings on PET Substrates

  • Linear ion beams have been introduced for the ion beam treatments of flexible substrates in roll-to-roll web coating systems. Anode layer linear ion sources (300 mm width) were used to make the linear ion beams. Oxygen ion beams having an ion energy from 200 eV to 800 eV used for the adhesion improvement of Cu thin films on PET substrates. The Cu thin films deposited by a conventional magnetron sputtering on the oxygen ion beam treated PET substrates showed Class 5 adhesion defined by ASTM D3359-97 (tape test). Argon ion beams with 1~3 keV used for the ion beam sputtering deposition process, which aims to control the initial layer before the magnetron sputtering deposition. When the discharge power of the linear ion source is 1.2 kW, static deposition rate of Cu and Ni were 7.4 and $3.5{\AA}/sec$, respectively.

  • Currently, new and renewable energy come into the spotlight, such as solar energy, wind power, fuel cell, hybrid car etc., due to the energy resource is being depleted. Especially, in order to solve like this problem, the study of solar cell manufacturing systems are being extensively researched such as vacuum process. But the major fault of the vacuum process are its expensive production price. On the order hand, Roll-to-roll printing system, the new technology of solar cell manufacturing, has low production price compare with the vacuum process. Also roll-to-roll printing system can decrease the 95% of waste water and 99.9% of harmful gasses than the vacuum process. So we addressed the roll to roll printing system for the flexible solar cell by using printing technology. This roll-to-roll printing system is comprised of various modules, such as web handling module, fine pattern printing module, dry/curing module, uniform coating module and laminating module etc.

다중 코팅 폴리에스터 섬유 여재의 항균 및 항바이러스 특성 (Antibacterial and Antiviral Activities of Multi-coating Polyester Textiles)

  • 본 연구에서는 다중 코팅 폴리에스터(PET) 섬유 여재의 항바이러스 소재 응용 가능성을 고찰하기 위해 금속산화물, 키토산, 및 구리이온의 첨착 조건에 따른 PET의 항균 및 항바이러스 성능을 평가하였다. 항균 물질이 단독으로 코팅된 PET 대비 다중 코팅 PET의 경우 첨착량을 감소시킬 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 배양 후 박테리아가 육안상으로 검출되지 않는데(< 10 CFU/mL) 필요한 균 접촉시간을 단축할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 금속산화물은 촉매반응에 의해 라디칼 등의 산소 활성종을 생성하며, 구리이온은 접촉 살균 효과를 가지면서 산소 활성종에 의한 박테리아와 바이러스의 손상에 기여한다. 키토산은 구리이온의 배위결합을 통한 고정화뿐만 아니라 아민기에 의한 살균 효과로 코팅 PET의 항균 성능 향상 효과를 보였다. 다중 코팅 PET는 대장균과 황색포도상구균에 대한 항균 효과 외에 인플루엔자 A (H1N1)와 SARS-CoV-2에 대해 99.9% 이상의 항바이러스 효과가 있음을 확인하였다. 대면적 roll-to-roll 공정을 통해서도 다중 코팅 PET 섬유 여재의 제조가 가능하고 높은 항바이러스 성능이 유지됨을 보였으며, 이는 공기정화용 필터, 마스크, 및 개인 보호용구과 같은 항바이러스 직물 소재로서 관련 산업에 응용될 수 있음을 시사한다.

바코팅 공정을 이용한 유기 발광 다이오드 특성 향상 (Improvement of Inverted Hybrid Organic Light-emitting Diodes Properties with Bar-coating Process)

  • Solution processed conjugated molecules enable to manufacture various electronic devices by unconventional and cost effective patterning methods as screen or gravure printing. Spin-coating is the most popularly used method to form conjugated polymeric film for various electronic devices. The coating method has certain disadvantages such as a large amount of unwanted wastes, difficulty forming a film with a large area, and impossible to apply roll-to-roll manufacturing. We present here a promising alternative coating method, bar-coating for conjugated polymer film and OLED with the bar coated light emitting layer. In this papers, we show atomic force microscope images of spin- and bar-coated Poly[(9,9-di-n-octylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl)-alt-(benzo[2,1,3]thiadiazol-4,8-diyl)] (F8BT) films on substrate. The bar-coated film showed a slight lower RMS roughness (1.058 [nm]) than spin-coated film (1.767 [nm]). It means the bar-coating is suitable method to form light emitting layers in OLEDs. By using bar-coating process, an OLED obtained with 4.7 [cd/A] in maximum current efficiency.

유기 태양전지 제작이 가능한 와이어리스 바코터 개발 (Development of a Wireless Bar Coater Applied to Organic Solar Cells)

  • Studies are using a roll forming bar. A bar coating device available for a variety of coating conditions was developed. It is characterized by the bar forward and reverse rotation, fine-tune coating speed, and stripe coating. To determine the characteristics of the equipment, the coating tests under different coating conditions were carried out. As a result of the coating tests, the equipment was confirmed as one of strong candidates for the production tool of organic solar cells. The further production test of organic solar cells through stripe coating is in progress.
