  • This study examined the effect of branding capability on business performance moderated by learning capability. This study was conducted with small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) of coffee cafes in the ex-Besuki region, East Java, Indonesia, covering four regencies located around coffee-producing areas with geographical indication (GI) certification. 150 managers of coffee cafe were sampled using the census technique. Data were collected by questionnaires distributed to the coffee cafe managers. The data were then analyzed by using simple regression analysis, Moderation Regression Analysis (MRA) and Moderated MultiGroup Analysis (MMA). The results showed that learning capability positively and significantly affect business performance, and learning capability moderated/enhanced the effect of branding capability on business performance. The findings of this study suggest that branding capability and learning capability play a crucial role in the performance of coffee cafe business especially in the dynamic environment. Coffee cafe managers need to take concrete steps to improve their branding capability and learning capability and they also need to improve their ability to interact with their environment and be committed in managing the coffee cafe. Therefore, it is imperative that the role of branding capability and learning capability be optimized in order to improve the business performance of the coffee cafe.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore characteristics of sixth grade students' opistemological beliefs in science and the relationship to learner's characteristics: learning motivation, learning strategies, and logical thinking. The subjects were 265 sixth graders and data was collected through two types of questionnaires, translated and modified by researchers: opistemological beliefs regarding science, learning motivation & strategies. The results of this study were as follows. The students believed that the goals of science were related to activations such as 'Science is experiment', or 'Science is invention: These beliefs were connected with the emphasis of science classes or the focus of the science curriculum. However, the students' beliefs related to the changeability of science knowledge, the source of science knowledge, and the role of experiments in developing knowledge were oriented to modern opistemological views. Moreover, the beliefs were meaningfully related to students' characteristics: learning motivation, learning strategies, and logical thinking. Among the students' characteristics, logical thinking was especially related to all of the factors of students' beliefs: the changeability of science knowledge, the source of science knowledge, and the role of experiments in developing knowledge. However, the students who believed that scientific knowledge came from scientists, science teachers, or science textbooks had high levels of self-efficacy. Therefore, the belief that scientific knowledge is formed by self-discovery, in order to generate high self-efficacy, needs to be encouraged. From the results, it is possible to check the orientation of current science education based on the students' opistemological beliefs. In addition, the resources can be accumulated for persevering in our efforts to achieve a positive orientation for science education.

  • Today, many universities are confronted with the changing education paradigm such as e-learning, Distance Education, Virtual University, This IT-based teaming paradigm shift is certainly a new opportunity or a threat to our universities. To overcome this problem the universities should think e-Learning as strategic weapon, such as many firms created competitive weapons from the information systems at the 1980s. So, e-Learning system can be a SIS(Strategic Information System) which supports university's future education strategies. To build a e-Learning system, not only many H/W and S/W resources but also expert personnels are required. An organization such as local university who is week at financial status can't himself plan the system. The Local University Community e-Learning Centers that support the demand of e-learning for their community are recommended. In order to operate these centers efficiently, the strategic roles of the e-Learning center should first be defined. To define the strategic roles, We classified the strategic roles of the e-Learning center into four dimensions, (1) to improve management efficiency, (2) to enhance educational service, (3) to acquire competitive advantages, (4) to build new education infrastructure, and each dimension has 5 or 6 measurement items. As result, to enhance the educational service was considered as the most significant factor among the four dimensions of strategic roles, and the infrastructure building was the next. We also tried to find the difference for each factor by the characteristics of responsor. The data showed that there was litter difference between the groups in evaluating the significance of strategic roles of e-learning centers. Through the strategic roles definition and analysis of expected role ratings, we could have recommended the direction and operation policies of the e-Loaming centers.

  • Professionalizing the teaching workforce has been recognized as one of the primary factors to reforming public education. In response to this challenge, it has been emphasized that an educational leader's role is to support professional learning communities more effectively. Although the academia of educational administration has increasingly drawn the significance of a teacher's professional development, understanding of an educational leader's role and contribution to this effort is quite limited and unclear. This article examines what factors and barriers affect teachers' participation in professional learning communities from the voices and experiences of teachers. The analysis found 1) identification, 2) autonomous will, 3) practical solution for factors to participation and 1) lack of theoretical foundation, 2) financial burden, 3) insufficient time for barriers to participation. In conclusion, the author suggests the strategies for an educational leader who has an important role in developing a teacher's professionalism: 1) create a strong network of university professors and other experts for career advice, 2) make an institutional effort to stimulate teachers' motivation to learn; 3) decrease the teachers' workload, 4) build a synthesized and consolidated system to establish communities.

  • This article analyzes mathematics education from dialectical materialism acknowledging the objectivity of knowledge. The thesis that knowledge is objective advances to the recognition that knowledge will be internalized, and an idea of zone of proximal development(ZPD) is established as a practice program of internalization. The lower side of ZPD, i.e. the early stage of internalization takes imitation in a large portion. And in the process of internalization the mediational means play an important role. Hereupon the role of mathematics teacher, the object of imitation, stands out significantly. In this article, treating the contents of study as follows, I make manifest that teaching and learning in mathematics classroom are united dialectically: I hope to findout the method of teaching-learning to mathematical knowledge from the point of view that mathematical knowledge is objective; I look into how analysis into units, as the analytical method of Vygotsky, has been developed from the side of mathematical teaching-learning; I discuss the significance of mediational means to play a key role in attaining the internalization in connection with ZPD and re-illuminate imitation. Based on them, I propose how the role of mathematics teachers, and the principle of organization to mathematics textbook should be.
