  • Traditional adaptive control algorithms are not robust to dynamic uncertainties. The adaptive control algorithms developed previously to deal with dynamic uncertainties do not facilitate quantitative design. We proposed a new robust adaptive control algorithms consists of an $H^{\infty}$ suboptimal control law and a robust parameter estimator. Numerical examples showing the effectiveness of the $H^{\infty}$ adaptive scheme are provided.

  • The adaptive control and the robust control have been considered as the most influential methods for robotic motion control. The purpose of this paper is to compare control performance between these two strategies in unconstrained motion control of robot manipulator. In order to compare control performance properly, intensive experiments are required and only then can conclusions be drawn on the relative merit and demerit of the controllers. Firstly, the control algorithms for unconstrained motion control are summarized. In adaptive control, the controllers that have been proposed so far are classified according to the signals used for the computed control input. It enables rather easier to compare controller is examined to demonstrate control performance of robust controllers. Finally, the above two approaches, the adaptive and the robust are compared from the view-point of robustness to plant uncertainty, which is one of the most demanding properties in robot motion control.

  • In this paper, the position tracking control problem of the servo system with nonlinear dynamic friction is issued. The nonlinear dynamic friction contains a directly immeasurable friction state variable and the uncertainty caused by incomplete parameter modeling and its variations. In order to provide the efficient solution to these control problems, we propose the composite control scheme, which consists of the robust friction state observer, the FNN approximator and the approximation error estimator with sliding mode control. In first, the sliding mode controller and the robust friction state observer is designed to estimate the unknown internal state of the LuGre friction model. Next, the FNN estimator is adopted to approximate the unknown lumped friction uncertainty. Finally, the adaptive approximation error estimator is designed to compensate the approximation error of the FNN estimator. Some simulations and experiments on the servo system assembled with ball-screw and DC servo motor are presented. Results show the remarkable performance of the proposed control scheme. The robust friction state observer can successfully identify immeasurable friction state and the FNN estimator and adaptive approximation error estimator give the robustness to the proposed control scheme against the uncertainty of the friction parameters.

  • Evolution Strategy is used as an effective search algorithm in optimization problems and Sliding Mode Control is well known as a robust control algorithm. In this paper, we propose a Sliding Mode Control Method for robot manipulator using Evolution Strategy. Evolution Strategy is used to estimate Sliding Mode Control Parameters such as sliding surface gradient, continuous function boundary layer, unknown plant parameters and switching gain. Experimental results show the proposed control scheme has accurate and robust performances with effective search ability.

  • Adaptive robust control scheme is introduced for flexible joint manipulator with nonlinearities and uncertainties. The system does not satisfy the matching condition due to insufficient actuators for each node. The control only relies on the assumption that the bound of uncertainty exists. Thus, the bounded value does not need to be known a prior. The control utilizes the update law by estimating the bound of the uncertainties. The control scheme uses the backstepping method and constructs a state transformation. Also, stability analysis is done for both transformed system and original system.

  • We propose the hybrid robust controller for TDC(Time Delay Control) and SMC(Sliding Mode Control) method. TDC and SMC deal with the time-varying system parameters, unknown dynamics and unexpected disturbance. This controller is applied to follow the desired reference model for the uncertain time-varying overhead crane. The control performance is evaluated through simulation. The theoretical results indicate That the proposed controller shows excellent performance to an overhead crane with the uncertain time-varying parameters and disturbance.

  • This paper presents a robust control of a reaction wheel inverted pendulum. To this end, a mathematical model is derived using physical laws, and then parameters in the model are identified as well. Based on the model, a robust position control is designed, which consists of two parts: swing-up control using passivity and robust stabilization control using LMI (Linear Matrix Inequality). When the pendulum starts to move, the swing-up control is applied. If the position of the pendulum is near the desired upright position, the control is switched to the robust stabilization control. This robust control is employed in order to deal with the uncertainties in the inertia of the pendulum dynamics. The performance of the proposed control scheme is validated not only simulation but also real experiment.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust controller for motion control of n-link robot manipulators using visual feedback. The desired joint velocity and acceleration is obtained by the feature-based visual systems and is used in the joint velocity control loop for trajectory control of the robot manipulator. We design a robust controller that compensates for bounded parametric uncertainties of robot dynamics. The stability analysis of robust joint velocity control system is shown by Lyapunov Method. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by simulation results on the 5-link robot manipulators with two degree of freedom.

  • The sensorless speed control technique for BLDCM using digital IP control is proposed in this paper for advanced speed characteristic which is robust for loads. The sensorless drive of BLDCM using terminal voltages is affected by load or speed because it uses analog filters to estimate the rotor position. For this reason, the robust speed controller with the accurate rotor position estimator is needed for sensorless control which is robust to load and insensitive to motor parameters. The constant speeds robust to load variation and the stable sensorless control of BLDCM robust to the increase or decrease of speed with constant load are implemented using digital IP control in this paper. The validity to these is established with experimentation.

  • A sufficient condition for the robust D-stability of dynamic interval systems is proposed in this paper. This D-stability condition is based on a parameter-dependent Lyapunov function obtained from the feasibility of a set of matrix inequalities defined at a series of partial-vertex-based interval matrices other than the total vertex matrices as previous results. This condition is also extended to the robust D-stabilization problem of dynamic interval systems, which supplies an effective synthesis procedure for any LMI D-region. The proposed conditions can be simplified to a set of LMIs, which can be solved by efficient interior point methods in polynomial time.
