Using driving simulation, this study investigated the effects of driver's trust in the adaptive cruise control (ACC) system and road density on driver's workload and situation awareness. The drivers were allocated into one of four experimental conditions manipulated by ACC system trust level (trust-increased vs. trust-decreased) and road congestion (high vs. low). The workload and situational awareness of the participants were measured as dependent variables. The results showed followings. First, trust-decreased group for the ACC system had significantly lower trust scores for the system in all of the measurement items, including reducing the driving load and securing safe driving due to the use of this system, than the trust-increased group. Second, the trust-decreased group showed a slower reaction time in the secondary tasks and higher subjective workload than trust-increased group. Third, in contrast, the situational awareness for the driving situation was significantly higher in the trust-decreased group than trust-increased group. The results of this study showed that the driver's trust in the ACC system can affect the various information processing performed while driving. Also, these results suggest that trust in the user's system should be considered as an important variable in the design of an automated driving assistance system.

In the braking of railway rolling stock, the slip that is the relative velocity between train body and its wheel affects the adhesive force which is connected to the braking force. The coefficient of the adhesive force changes in accordance with the slip and the condition of a rail road. Namely, its value increases upon the maximum on a rail condition, and there it declines conversely while the magnitude of slip keeps rising on. First, this paper introduced a reference slip generator so that can utilize maximum adhesive forces with a disturbance observer for estimating unmeasurable current adhesive forces which is as an input of the generator. And, an adaptive sliding-mode control system has been synthesized for minimizing the error between reference and current slip. Finally the effectiveness of the proposed control system is evaluated by computer simulation.

This paper describes a vehicle low speed driving assistant (VLDA) system that is composed of laser scanner. This vehicle is designed for following lead vehicle (LV) without driver's operation. The system is made up several component systems that are based on unmanned ground vehicle (UGV). Each component system is applied to use advanced safety vehicle developed to complete UGV system. VLDA system was divided into vehicle control system and obstacle detecting system. The obstacle detecting system calculate distance and angle of LV and transmit these data to vehicle control system using front, left and right laser scanners. Vehicle control system makes vehicle control values such as steering angle, acceleration and brake position and control vehicle's movement with steering, acceleration and brake actuators. In this research, we designed VLDA system like as low speed cruise control system and test it on real road environments.

This paper proposes a robust control design method for improving the cornering stability of a personal electric vehicle equipped with in-wheel motors. In general, vehicles undergo severe parameter variations and unpredictable disturbances with respect to a wide range of driving conditions (e.g., road surface conditions and vehicle velocity conditions). For this reason, robust control design techniques are required to guarantee consistent driving performances and robustness against various driving conditions. In this paper, an adaptive sliding mode control method is employed to enhance cornering stability by controlling the direct-drive in-wheel motors independently. Additionally, in order to confirm the effectiveness of a proposed control method, real driving tests with an experimental personal electric vehicle are performed.

Vehicle dynamic states used in various advanced driving safety systems are influenced by road geometry. Among the road geometry information, the vehicle pitch angle influenced by road slope and acceleration-deceleration is essential parameter used in pose estimation including the navigation system, advanced adaptive cruise control and others on sag road. Although the road slope data is essential parameter, the method measuring the parameter is not commercialized. The digital map including the road geometry data and high-precision DGPS system such as DGPS(Differential Global Positioning System) based RTK(Real-Time Kinematics) are used unusually. In this paper, low-cost cascade extended Kalman filter(CEKF) based road slope estimation method is proposed. It use cascade two EKFs. The EKFs use several measured vehicle states such as yaw rate, longitudinal acceleration, lateral acceleration and wheel speed of the rear tires and 3 D.O.F(Degree Of Freedom) vehicle dynamics model. The performance of proposed estimation algorithm is evaluated by simulation based on Carsim dynamics tool and T-car based experiment.

Increasing environmental concerns have prompted countries around the world to tighten regulations on greenhouse gases and fuel efficiency. Research is being done using advanced driver assistance systems to improve fuel economy and for the convenience of drivers. Research on systems such as adaptive cruise control (ACC), LKAS, and AEB is active. The purpose of ACC is to control the longitudinal speed and distance of the vehicle and minimize the driver's load, which is considered useful for accident prevention. From this point of view, research has used a mathematical method of safety evaluation as a function of distances and scenarios while considering domestic road environments. A vehicle is tested with a simulation in a proposed scenario. The purpose of the analysis is to verify the functional safety of ACC by comparing the theoretical calculations using theoretical equations, the relative distances in the simulation, and an actual vehicle test. These methods are expected to enable many companies to use scenarios, formulas, and simulations as safety verification methods in the development of ACC.

Now days, it is based on GIS and GPS, it can search for the shortest path and estimation of arrival time by using the internet and cell phone to driver. But, even though good car navigation system does not create which is the shortest path when there average vehicle speed is 10 -20 Km. Therefore In order to reduce vehicle waiting time and average vehicle speed, we suggest optimal green time algorithm using fuzzy adaptive control , where there are different traffic intersection length and lane. In this paper, it will be able to forecast the optimal traffic Information, estimation of destination arrival time, under construction road, and dangerous road using internet.

This paper presents an effective method for detecting vehicles in front of the camera-assisted car during nighttime driving. The proposed method detects vehicles based on detecting vehicle headlights and taillights using techniques of image segmentation and clustering. First, in order to effectively extract spotlight of interest, a pre-signal-processing process based on camera lens filter and labeling method is applied on road-scene images. Second, to spatial clustering vehicle of detecting lamps, a grouping process use light tracking method and locating vehicle lighting patterns. For simulation, we are implemented through Da-vinci 7437 DSP board with visible light mono-camera and tested it in urban and rural roads. Through the test, classification performances are above 89% of precision rate and 94% of recall rate evaluated on real-time environment.
The nonlinear characteristics of a suspension is directly related to the ride quality of a passenger car. In this study, the nonlinear characteristics of a spring and a damper of a passenger car is analyzed by dynamic experiments using the MTS single-axial testing machine. Also, a mathematical nonlinear dynamic model for the suspension is devised to estimate the ride quality using the K factor. And the effect on the variation of the parameters of the suspension is examined. The results showed that the dynamic viscosity of the oil in a damper was the parameter that most influeced the ride quality of a passenger car for the ride quality of a passenger car.

This study describes the comparison of noise suppression performances at different locations of two error microphones in active noise control (ANC) for outdoor applications. For this study, 12 different locations were predefined to decide best locations for error sensors in terms of suppressing noise. As shown in Fig. 1, the ANC system with one primary loudspeaker, two secondary loudspeakers and two error microphones is operated by a filtered-x LMS (FXLMS) algorithm which is implemented in a TI 6713 DSP board and Realsys 4713 AD/DA Extension board. The noise for the primary source is a typical road noise measured at a highway roadside. The lengths of adaptive filters of W1 and W2 are varied from 32 to 128 respectively. An intensive computer simulation was accomplished before outdoor ANC experiments. It is expected from the simulation results that the ANC performances are very much dependent upon the locations of the two error microphones.
