Joints on concrete road prevent failure and crack securing the moderate space when concrete slab expands and contracts as a function of varying temperature throughout all seasons. Filling joint sealants in joints can prevent the interruption of slab movement and failure due to the infiltration of alien substances, and also can prevent crack caused by freezing and thawing and Dowel bar corrosion resulted from water - rainfall and snowfall infiltration through the inside the pavement. They lead to the improvement of the commonality of road. This paper evaluates physical strength, weatherability and deicer resistance of a two-year aged sample from joint on concrete road and its virgin sample. It was found that there are significant differences in aspects of weatherability and adhesive force between the tested sample and silicon materials.

In road pavements, it is known that cement concrete pavement has superior durability, safety compared. But in repairing pavement, cement concrete pavement is not usually applied because of the length of time while the road is interrupted when using Ordinary and Rapid-hardening Portland Cement. And Super High Early Strength Cement and Ultra Super High Early Strength Cement are not favorable for ready mixed concrete because of rapid setting time, high slump loss and other restrictions. We developed special cement developing 1 day strength of over 30.0N/mm$^2$ to open the road within 1 day and workable time is maintained over 1 hour so that it can be used as ready mixed concrete. We performed experimental overlay construction with the cement and evaluated the mechanical property and the durability. At curing temperature of 8-l8$^{\circ}C$,the flexural strength was 6.4N/mm$^2$at 1 day, so that the road can be open to traffic within 1 day. In durability test, the hardened concrete showed higher durability than Portland cement concrete.
On-line electric vehicle (OLEV) is a new eco-friendly transportation system that collects electricity from a power cable buried beneath the road surface, allowing the system to resolve various problems associated with batteries in electric vehicles. This paper presents a finite element (FE) based thermo-mechanical analysis of precast concrete structures that are utilized in the OLEV system. An experimental study is also conducted to identify materials used for a joint filler, and the observed experimental results are applied to the FE analysis. Traffic loading and boundary conditions are modeled in accordance with the related standards and environmental characteristics of a road system. A series of structural analyses concerning various test scenarios are conducted to investigate the sensitivity of design parameters and to evaluate the structural performance of the road system.
Stormwater runoff from urban road area as non-point source has a tendency of including lots of pollutants at initial rain period. Recently, there are several cases of having installed treatment facilities for reducing pollution discharge from the impervious cover in urban area to prevent watershed environment from getting worse. The filtration type among non-point source treatment systems has been known as one of the most efficient system for treatment of non-point source pollutants. Therefore, various kinds of filter media such as expanded polypropylene(EPP), granular activated carbon, zeolite, perlite, illite, sand, gravel has been developed. This study was conducted to verify performance and hydraulic characteristics of filter media as measures for non-point source. The experiment was carried out to evaluate applicability and variation of 4 kind of most popular filter media(EPP, GAC, Zeolite, Perlite) in headloss with elapsed time and influent flow rate and to obtain data base that could be used to establish management plan for road runoff treatment. In experiment by tap water, it showed that EPP and perlite those are floatable materials showed stable operating performance and lower headloss than the others.

We introduce a simplified crossing wood drain disperses rain water concentration and is used to protect the road surface from erosion due to flooding over the unpaved road. The efficiency of a simplified crossing wood drain was also investigated. A structure of simplified crossing wood drain can be produced within 10 minutes and installed within 18 minutes. The cost of the this product is 1/5 of that of the existing crossing drain product. The production and installation cost can be reduced according to dexterity. In the context of such applications, the degrees of damage for a rubber pad, which preventing the rain overflow, were varied according to their materials. A type of 8.2mm thick fabric rubber was the most suitable in this study.
Underground cavities could induce road subsidence, which have been frequently observed in urban areas. Therefore, adequate backfilling materials and the restoring methods of the cavities are required to prevent the road subsidence. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the suitability of backfilling methods using foaming lightweight grouting materials considering the flow values, unit weights, and air contents at slurry and expanded states, and unconfined compressive strengths. The grouting materials consist of water, cement, and foaming agent whose proportions of water, cement, and foaming agent are 25: 25: 1.0 and 25: 25: 1.2. The flow values of the two materials are greater than 200 mm, and their unconfined compressive strengths at 28 days age are smaller than 1.3 MPa. From the results, the two proportions of materials are expected to be effectively used as a backfilling material. However, the material components should be carefully mixed because poor mix of these materials could induce non-homogeneous distribution of air bubbles. The unexpectedly non-homogeneous distribution of air bubbles may induce significant cracks or additional cavities.
It is known that the road noise on the rear seat of a hatchback type car is worse than that of a sedan type car because of the weakness on sealing structure. Therefore, a sound sealing system and sufficient absorption/insulation performance are required. In the case of a compact segment car, however, the application of the sufficient absorption and insulation materials is limited, because of the restriction on the production cost and weight of the car. In this study, we estimate the noise transmission path on the vehicle's body structure from tires and ground using the PBNR (Power Based Noise Reduction) method which is useful in quantitative measurement. Based on these results, we suggest an alternative absorption/insulation method for the better performance of rear seat road noise reduction in a compact hatchback car.

For housing estate of a new administrative capital city, Noise reduction method is a important design factor. As measuring a noise level of traffic noise according to separation from road, it can be created a quite housing estate. Analyzing of merits and demerits in sound barrier walls and tunnels can be proposed environment friendly soundproofing facilities. Number of measurement was performed to know what kind of layout of housing estate is good for noise reduction. Through this measurement, ㄷ shaped layout or parallel layout has the advantage of sound insulation rather than right angled layout. In this case (ㄷ shaped layout or parallel layout) buildings neighboring to the road should be designed to insulate sound. Evergreen trees should be planted between housing estate and road more than 30m (at least 7~8m) in order to reduce noise and have masking effects. If broad-leaved trees are planted more than 30m, approximately 10dB noise is reduced and 2~4dB if 7~8m. Roads in the estate should be designed considering pedestrians first, and special roads for moving and ambulance should be designed as skew road, if possible. The result shows that 15$^{\circ}$-sloped‘S’road reduces 1~2dB noise and 30$^{\circ}$-sloped road reduces 4~7dB. If noise barrier is inevitably installed, it should be designed to go well wit neighboring environment so as to install Environment Friendly Noise Barrier using materials and trees including wood and soil. Through this study the results are used to guideline for construction of environment friendly housing estate

Intrusive Vehicle Detectors have excellent detection performance compared to other types of detector, but disadvantages of high installation and maintenance costs, short life time due to greater damage to roads and paving materials. In contrast, Non-Intrusive Vehicle Detectors attached to the stationary pole have advantages because it does not damage the road surface and easy and less expensive to maintain. Despite these advantages, Non-Intrusive type detectors are still not been widely used in traffic signal control systems because of the low detection performance. In this study, a FMCW(Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) radar Vehicle Detector was designed as an alternative detector for the signalized intersection, and the performance evaluation was presented by purpose applicability.

As interest in social safety has recently increased at the national level, the various activities which can effectively prevent crimes are being carried out. Because the existing maps related to crimes provide the information about the present condition of crimes by administrative district for users, women and pedestrians who go by night could not actually grasp safe roads in advance. Therefore, this study developed the methodology that can easily extract dangerous areas due to crimes by the digital map 2.0. In the digital map 2.0, location and attribute information of center-lines of roads and building layers were used to find dangerous areas of crimes in these layers. Pavement materials and road width which are already built by the attribute information were used in the center-lines of roads. Crossing angles that roads and roads cross each other were additionally extracted and utilized. The attribute information about building types were input in the building layers of the digital map 2.0. The areas that are more the threshold values set by totaling up all the risk scores when considering pavement materials, road width, crossing angles of road, and building types in the center-lines of roads and road crossings were extracted as the dangerous areas that crimes can occur. Verification of the developed methodology was done by experiment. In the spatial apsect, the dangerous areas of crimes could be found by using the digital 2.0, roads, and building layers only through the experiment. In the administrative aspect to prevent crimes, additional installation of safety facilities such as street lights and security lights in the identified areas which are vulnerable for crimes is thought to be increasing safety of dangerous areas.
