  • In this paper, we propose image process modeling as a part of location based surveillance system for unauthorized target recognition and tracking in harbor, airport, military zone. For this, we compress and store background image in lower resolution and perform object extraction and motion tracking by using sobel edge detection and difference picture method between real images and a background image. In addition to, we use Independent Component Analysis Neural Network for moving target recognition. Experiments are performed for object extraction and tracking of moving targets on road by using static camera in 20m height building and it shows the robust results.

  • In recent years, research and development on image object recognition using artificial intelligence have been actively carried out, and it is expected to be used for road maintenance. Among them, artificial intelligence models for object detection of road surface are continuously introduced. In order to develop such object recognition algorithms, a backbone network that extracts feature maps is essential. In this paper, we will discuss how to select the appropriate neural network. To accomplish it, we compared with 4 different deep neural networks using 6,000 road surface damage images. Based on three evaluation methods for analyzing characteristics of neural networks, we propose a method to determine optimal neural networks. In addition, we improved the performance through optimal tuning of hyper-parameters, and finally developed a light backbone network that can achieve 85.9% accuracy of road surface damage classification.

  • The recognition of current position and road surrounding of car is very important to driver for safe driving. This paper presents the recognition technique of the road traveling environment using position information hiding and viewpoint transform that monitors the information of road furniture and signature and notifies them to driver. The proposed scheme generates the road images into which the position information are hided, from car camera and GPS module and provides the road information to driver through the viewpoint transformation and the road signature detection. The driving tests with camera and GPS module verified that the position information hiding takes about 66.5ms per frame, the detection rate of road signature is about 95.83%, and the road signature detection takes about 227.45ms per frame. Therefore, we know that the proposed scheme can recognize the road traveling environment on the road video with 15 frame rate.

  • An autonomous valet parking (AVP) system is designed to locate a vacant parking space and park the vehicle in which it resides on behalf of the driver, once the driver has left the vehicle. In addition, the AVP is able to direct the vehicle to a location desired by the driver when requested. In this paper, for an AVP system, we introduce technology to recognize a parking space using image sensors. The proposed technology is mainly divided into three parts. First, spatial analysis is carried out using a height map that is based on dense motion stereo. Second, modelling of road markings is conducted using a probability map with a new salient-line feature extractor. Finally, parking space recognition is based on a Bayesian classifier. The experimental results show an execution time of up to 10 ms and a recognition rate of over 99%. Also, the performance and properties of the proposed technology were evaluated with a variety of data. Our algorithms, which are part of the proposed technology, are expected to apply to various research areas regarding autonomous vehicles, such as map generation, road marking recognition, localization, and environment recognition.

  • In this paper, a blackboard-based road image understanding system is implemented. The 7 useful information which organized by the hierarchical manner are stored in the blackboard system. The 6 Knowledge source modules and the blackboard make the communications under the supervision of the control module. For a scene, each hypothesis is generated and then verified for every meaningful object. On the simulation results, the correct recognition ratio can be reached out 90%. It shows that the extraction of road information for the autonomous navigation can be obtained using the blackboard architecture.

  • The purpose of this paper is two-fold: 1) A novel algorithm in order to extract lane-related information from road images is presented; 2) Design specifications of an image processing onboard unit capable of extracting lanerelated information in real-time is also presented. Obtaining precise information from road images requires many features due to the effects of noise that eventually leads to long processing time. By exploiting a FPGA and DSP, we solve the problem of real-time processing. Due to the fact that image processing of road images relies largely on edge features, the FPGA is adopted in the hardware design. The schematic configuration of the FPGA is optimized in order to perform 3 $\times$ 3 Sobel edge extraction. The DSP carries out high-level image processing of recognition, decision, estimation, etc. The proposed algorithm uses edge features to define an Edge Distribution Function (EDF), which is a histogram of edge magnitude with respect to the edge orientation angle. The EDF enables the edge-related information and lane-related to be connected. The performance of the proposed system is verified through the extraction of lane-related information. The experimental results show the robustness of the proposed algorithm and a processing speed of more than 25 frames per second, which is considered quite successful.

  • A lane detection based on a road model or feature all needs correct acquirement of information on the lane in an image. It is inefficient to implement a lane detection algorithm through the full range of an image when it is applied to a real road in real time because of the calculating time. This paper defines two (other proper terms including"modes") for detecting lanes on a road. First is searching mode that is searching the lane without any prior information of a road. Second is recognition mode, which is able to reduce the size and change the position of a searching range by predicting the position of a lane through the acquired information in a previous frame. It allows to extract accurately and efficiently the edge candidate points of a lane without any unnecessary searching. By means of inverse perspective transform which removes the perspective effect on the edge candidate points, we transform the edge candidate information in the Image Coordinate System(ICS) into the plan-view image in the World Coordinate System(WCS). We define a linear approximation filter and remove faulty edge candidate points by using it. This paper aims at approximating more correctly the lane of an actual road by applying the least-mean square method with the fault-removed edge information for curve fitting.e fitting.

  • A method of the region extraction and recognition of a speed sign in the real road environment is proposed. The region of speed sign is extracted by using color information and then numbers are segmented in the region. We improve the recognition rate by performing an incline compensation of the speed sign for directions clockwise and counterclockwise. In image sequences of the real road environment, a robust recognition results are achieved with speed signs at normal condition as well as inclined.

  • CNN (Convolutional Neural Network), a type of deep learning algorithm, is a type of artificial neural network used to analyze visual images. In deep learning, it is classified as a deep neural network and is most commonly used for visual image analysis. Accordingly, an AI autonomous driving model was constructed through real-time image processing, and a crosswalk image of a road was used as an obstacle. In this paper, we proposed a low-cost model that can actually implement autonomous driving based on the CNN model. The most well-known deep neural network technique for autonomous driving is investigated and an end-to-end model is applied. In particular, it was shown that training and self-driving on a simulated road is possible through a practical approach to realizing lane detection and keeping.

  • Image always carry useful information, detecting a text from scene images is imperative. The proposed work's purpose is to recognize scene text image, example boarding image kept on highways. Scene text detection on highways boarding's plays a vital role in road safety measures. At initial stage applying preprocessing techniques to the image is to sharpen and improve the features exist in the image. Likely, morphological operator were applied on images to remove the close gaps exists between objects. Here we proposed a two phase algorithm for extracting and recognizing text from scene images. In phase I text from scenery image is extracted by applying various image preprocessing techniques like blurring, erosion, tophat followed by applying thresholding, morphological gradient and by fixing kernel sizes, then canny edge detector is applied to detect the text contained in the scene images. In phase II text from scenery image recognized using MSER (Maximally Stable Extremal Region) and OCR; Proposed work aimed to detect the text contained in the scenery images from popular dataset repositories SVT, ICDAR 2003, MSRA-TD 500; these images were captured at various illumination and angles. Proposed algorithm produces higher accuracy in minimal execution time compared with state-of-the-art methodologies.
