  • The Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) is a part of the active safety system, providing optimized vision to the driver during night time and other poor-sight conditions of the road by automatic adaptation of lighting to environmental and traffic conditions. Basically, an AFS provides four different modes of the passing beam as designated in an United Nations Economic Commission for Europe regulation (ECE324-R123): neutral state or country light (Class C), urban light (Class V), highway light (Class E), and adverse weather light (Class W). In this paper, we first present an optics design for an AFS system capable of producing the Class C/V/E/W patterns requiring only on/off modulation of multi-array LEDs with no need for any additional mechanical components. The AFS optics consists of two separated modules, cutoff and spread; the cutoff module lights a narrow central area with high luminous intensity, satisfying the cutoff regulation, and the spread module forms a wide spread beam of low luminous intensity. Each module consists of two major parts; the first converts a discretely positioned LED array into a full-filled area emitting light source plane, and the second projects the light source plane to a 25 m away target plane. With the combination of these two optics modules, the four beam patterns are formed by simple on/off modulation of multi-array LEDs. Then we report the development of a prototype that was demonstrated to provide the four beam patterns.

  • A study is to research crash barriers for vehicles that prevent road breakaway of vehicles and protect car passengers and pedestrians as absorbing impulse. Protection performance tests on vehicle passengers were simulated by using a LS-DYNA program. Through repetitive simulation on various speed and angles, passenger protection performance according to different impact condition was contemplated. Variable setting for the simulation was calculated as the mean weight of domestic car sales. By analyzing NASS (National Automotive Sampling System) of NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) of the U.S., the actual speed and collision angle section of accidents were computed. As a result, we confirmed that THIV (Theoretical Head Impact Velocity) and PHD (Post-impact Head Deceleration) are increased according to the impact speed and angle. Also, when the vehicle hit the guardrail post, we could be confirmed that the passenger protection performance greatly decreased.

  • Recently, the construction of tunnels longer than one kilometer has increased rapidly. Considering characteristic of limiting structure of longer tunnel, if fires inside tunnel broke out because of vehicle incidents, the catastroph would have high possibility to take place due to toxic smoke and heat of fire. In case of highway tunnel, safety facilities which can cope with tunnel fire are installed in the tunnel but according to rapid increase of heavy good traffic, dangerous goods and enlargement of tunnel magnitude, the research has to carry out about heat fluxes and smoke behaviour during tunnel fire. Therefore, through full-sized fire experiment the paper analyzed temperature distribution, wind velocity, smoke behaviour during tunnel fire.

  • For vehicle safety-related services using wireless communications, reliable collection of various driving informations transmitted periodically by neighbor vehicles is the most important. Every host vehicle analyses them to estimate a potential dangerous situation in a very short time and warns drivers to prevent an accident. However tremendous amount of periodic messages can cause the wireless communication in chaos and the services not in safe. In this paper, we propose a time-division broadcasting protocol to mitigate the communication congestion. It utilizes the received information of vehicle velocity and location, i.e. vehicle traffic density on a road to adjust the number of time slots in a given broadcasting period, and transmission power. The simulation results show that message reception ratio is changed to approximately 40% and channel access time also decreased from 10ms to 0.23ms.

  • Background: The epidemiology of nasal fractures varies according to factors such as the era and area of the study, as well as the age of the patient. We compared the characteristics and causes of pediatric nasal fractures. Methods: A total of 2,321 patients with nasal fractures from 2010 to 2017 were examined. The patients were divided into age groups using the Korean school system of age classification. The causes of injury were divided into five groups: violence, fall or slip down, sports, road traffic accidents, and others. Fractures were classified using the Stranc and Robertson standard: vector of force and plane of fracture. Results: Violence was the most common cause of nasal fracture in patients older than 12 years. Violence was a significantly less frequent cause among patients younger than 12 years old than among adolescent and adult patients. Nasal fractures due to violence were not observed in patients younger than 10 years. Plane 2 and lateral force fractures were the most common; however, in patients younger than 12 years, frontal force fractures were significantly more frequent than were lateral force fractures. Conclusion: As children may simply be injured due to a fall or slip down, it is important for the parents and guardians to ensure their safety. As they become older, children should abstain from violence and be monitored. It is therefore very important to ensure that the environment is free of violence in order to prevent such injuries.

  • It is critical for Korea to make effective use of limited space as it has dense population and high traffic volume compared to its terrestrial area. To resolve this issue, diverse types of underground structures have increasingly been applied so far, and one of the most representative structures is double-deck tunnel. The construction period of the middle slab in the double deck tunnel constructed at the great depth can be considered as an important part after the tunnel lining construction in the whole process. In order to minimize the construction period required for construction of the middle slab in the double deck tunnel, it was proposed a method of the precast intermediate slab. In this study, it is suggested a mechanical construction process with dedicated equipments developed to improve the safety and the workability of erection of the precast middle slab than the current construction method using the existing mobile crane.

  • At the present time, the number of accidents has enlarged speedily and in country like India per day there are about 204 accidents occurred. Accidents of two-wheeler compose a foremost segment of every accident and it can be true for the reason that two-wheelers like bikes not able to produce as many as security measurements normally incorporated in cars, truks and bus etc. General main rootcost of the two-wheeler accidents happen only when people community not remember to wearing a device helmet and during the driving time feels like sleep condition, alcohol disbursement, many of the drivers doesn't know heavy vehicles like Loory and buses approaching into very closer to their two wheelers, contravention of two wheelers in traffic rules and regulations. Let's overcome the above situations; our important objective is to develop an intelligent system device that can successfully facilitate in avoidance of every kind of problems. Suppose any of the above stated situations occurs, at that moment how system device identify and represents the commanders and community, and finally the stated situation be able to taken care of straight away without any further delay. A smart intelligent helmet system is a defending head covering used by rider for making bike riding safer than earlier. This is finished by incorporating sophisticated features like detecting the usage of helmet by the rider, connected Bluetooth module in helmet. In order to maintain the temperature inside the helmet device we need to include CPU fan module inside the device. RF based helmet prevents road accidents and identify whether people community is not using a component helmet or used. Main responsibility of the system is to detect accidents by vibration sensors, accelerometers and also with the help of modules global positioning system and global system for mobile commnicaiton module. A wireless communication device used to discover the accident area site location and likewise notifying the two-wheeler drived people's relatives and short message text information passed to the positioned hospitals.

  • Human-computer interaction is a discipline concerned with the design, evaluation, and implementation of interactive systems for human use. In this paper we suggest designing a smart deaf emergency application based on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) principles whereas nowadays everything around us is becoming smart, People already have smartphones, smartwatches, smart cars, smart houses, and many other technologies that offer a wide range of useful options. So, a smart mobile application using Text Telephone or TeleTYpe technology (TTY) has been proposed to help people with deafness or impaired hearing to communicate and seek help in emergencies. Deaf people find it difficult to communicate with people, especially in emergency status. It is stipulated that deaf people In all societies must have equal rights to use emergency services as other people. With the proposed application the deafness or impaired hearing can request help with one touch, and the location will be determined, also the user status will be sent to the emergency services through the application, making it easier to reach them and provide them with assistance. The application contains several classifications and emergency status (traffic, police, road safety, ambulance, fire fighting). The expected results from this design are interactive, experiential, efficient, and comprehensive features of human-computer interactive technology which may achieve user satisfaction.

  • In this paper, we developed a vehicle control terminal using IoT and low-power long-distance communication (NB-IoT) technology. This system collects information on the location and status of a parked vehicle, and transmits the vehicle status to the vehicle owner's terminal in real time with low power to prevent vehicle theft, and in the case of a vehicle in motion, When primary information about the vehicle, such as an impact, is collected and transmitted to the server, the server analyzes the relevant data to generate secondary information on traffic congestion, road damage, and safety accidents. By sending it, you can know the exact arrival time of the vehicle at its destination. This terminal device is an IoT gateway for a vehicle and can be connected to various wired and wireless sensors inside the vehicle. In addition, the data collected from vehicle maintenance, efficient operation, and vehicles can be usefully used in the private or public sector.
