From the study of acupuncture and external diseases on mammary diseases, the following conclusions are obtained. 1. Point Shanzhong, Shaoze and Rugen are often used for galactostasis in acupuncture. 2. Often used vessels for galactostasis in acupuncture are Stomach Meridian, Conception Vessel, Small Intestine Meridian, Bladder Meridian, Liver Meridian and Large Intestine Meridian in order. 3. The direct stimulations are used in external treatment for galactostasis, often accompanied by internal medical treatment, to promote the circulation of Qi and Blood. 4. Point Zuimup, Guangming of Gall bladder Meridian and Zusanli of Stomach Meridian is used for lactation pain in acupuncture. 5. Point Jianjing, Zusanli and Shanzhong are most often used for acuremastitis and breast cancer in acupuncture. 6. Often used vessels for acuremastitis and breast cancer in acupuncture are Stomach Meridian, Gall bladder Meridian, Conception Vessel, Small Intestine Meridian, Bladder Meridian, Pericardium Meridian in order. 7. The external treatment used for acuremastitis and breast cancer can be classed into its pathological period. When lactation is interrupted, Kumhwang Powder, Okro Powder, Robongbang, Allii Radix, Pinelliae Rhizoma, garlic moxibustion and Arusaenatus Rgizoma powder are used. When pus is piled up, Chunghwa Extracts, Dioscoreae Rhizoma, Leonuri Herba, Typa Latifolia, Taraxacum platycarpum, Phaseolus angularis, Manchong, Crvi Cornus latex, and Aucklandiae Radix are used. When pus flows down, Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix Extract, nine-one pellet, Yongboo extract, eight-dampness extract, Tissue-regeneration Powder, Toad-net treatment, Kitten-hair, Hongseung pellet are used. 8. Stomach Meridian, Conception Vessel, Small Intestine Meridian, Gall Bladder Meridian, Bladder Meridian are most often used vessels for mammary diseases. From the conclusions above, It appears that the medical effect could be maximized by further studying and developing of the acupuncture and external treatment for mammary diseases according to the its nature, while accompanying internal medicine appropriately at the same time.

Objectives: To examine the effect of complex Korean medical treatment on tic disorder in children who visited the neuropsychiatric clinic of Korean medicine. Methods: Medical records of 35 patients diagnosed with tic disorder based on DSM-V who received complex Korean medical treatment (herbal medicine, acupuncture and Korean psychotherapy) were reviewed. Tic disorder was then evaluated by Yale Global Tic Severity Scale (YGTSS) before and at 4, 8, and 12 weeks after treatment to determine whether their symptoms were improved. Results: 1) After the treatment, mean YGTSS was reduced from 35.54±14.77 to 23.20±12.65. There were statistically significant changes between scores according to the time of treatment (p< 0.05). 2) At the time of visit, symptoms of motor tics were in the order of eyes, neck and shoulders, mouth, head and arms & hands, nose, face, upper body and other parts, and legs and symptoms of vocal tics were in the order of sniffing, dry coughing and MMM, AA and whistling, and other sounds. 3) For 35 patients, herbal medicine was prescribed every two weeks. The frequency of prescriptions used was in the order of Shihogayonggolmoryo-tang, Gami-ondam-tang, and others. 4) The frequency of herbs used in 35 patients was in the order of Poria, Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, Pinelliae Rhizoma and Scutellariae Radix, Bupleuri Radix, Ostreae Concha and Bovis Ossis Fossilia, and others. Conclusions: Complex Korean medical treatment including herbal medicine, acupuncture, and Korean psychotherapy is effective for reducing tic symptoms in children.

Objectives : This study aimed to review the current trends in experimental studies on the use of natural products for treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Methods : Experimental studies assessing the efficacy of natural products against GERD were searched on PubMed. Articles were selected based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria and then analyzed for experimental methods, interventions, and result analysis techniques. Results : A total 37 studies were included in this review. Predominantly, in vivo experiments were conducted to induce GERD through surgery, involving the ligation of the pylorus and the transitional junction between the corpus and the forestomach using 7-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats. The acute induction model, sacrificing animals after a single administration following GERD induction, was mainly used.The utilization of cell experiments was relatively infrequent, with a focus on assessing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects via the treatment of the RAW 264.7 cell line with lipopolysaccharides treatment. Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Pinelliae Tuber, Ginseng Radix and Zingiberis Rhizoma were used as single ingredients, and herbal formula, STW-5 (iberogast), Rikkunshito (六君子湯), Banhasasim-tang (半夏瀉心湯), and Hewei Jiangni granule (和胃降逆湯) were used. Outcome analysis methods encompassed Macroscopic evaluation, esophageal function assessment, blood biomarker analysis, histological examination, protein analysis, gene expression analysis, and gastric juice analysis. Proton pump inhibitors were predominantly employed as positive controls. Conclusions : This study revealed the current trends in non-clinical research evaluating natural products for GERD. Based on the results of this study, we expect that non-clinical research on clinically effective natural products will be revitalized.

Objectives: This study aimed to systematically review the effectiveness and safety of traditional herbal medicine treatments for metabolic syndrome (MS) in patients receiving antipsychotic drugs (APs). Methods: We searched 11 domestic and foreign databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) using traditional herbal medicines for MS in patients receiving APs. Results: Twenty RCTs conducted in China were included in the analysis. The most common disease among the participants was schizophrenia. Most studies used the 2004 Chinese Diabetes Society (CDS) standards as the diagnostic criteria for MS. The most used prescription was Yukultang (Liuyu-tang). The most used herbal material was Pinelliae Rhizoma, followed by Poria, Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma. Traditional herbal medicines were mostly reported to improve the symptoms of MS. Conclusions: Traditional herbal medicines may be effective in improving the symptoms of MS in patients receiving APs. However, the quality of the included studies was low, and the studies were heterogeneous. Methodologically rigorous clinical studies on traditional herbal medicine treatments for MS in patients receiving APs are needed.

The study was carried out to investigate the effect of Kwandongwhasan extract and its constituent herbs onthe contractile force of isolated guineapig trachealis muscle and to elucidate its mechanism. The results of this study were as follows; 1. Kwandongwhasan significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated guinea pig trachealis muscle by histamine. 2. Kwandongwhasan significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated guinea pig trachealis muscle by acetylcholine. 3. Kwandongwhasan significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated guinea pig trachealis muscle by 5-hydrooxytryptamine. 4. Kwandongwhasan significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated guinea pig trachealis muscle by prostaglandin $F2\;{\alpha}$ 5. Herba Ephedrae (麻黃), Semen Armeniacae(杏仁), Cortex Mormi(紫白皮), and Flos Farfarae (款冬花), extract significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated guinea pig trachealis muscle by histamine, acetylcholine, 5-hydroxytryptamine and prostaglandin $F2\;{\alpha}$. 6. Radix Glycyrrhdzae(甘草) extract significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated guinea pig trachealis muscle by prostaglandia $F2\;{\alpha}$. 7. Rhizoma Anemarrhenae(知母) extract significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated guinea pig trachealis muscle by histamine. 8. Bulbus Fritillariae(貝母) and Tuber Pinelliae(半夏) extract did not inhibit the significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated guinea pig trachealis muscle.

Objectives: Drug-induced Parkinsonism has similar symptoms to Parkinson's disease, but each has different causes. Drug-induced Parkinsonism accounts for the largest proportion of secondary Parkinsonism We report a outpatient case of drug-induced Parkinsonism after taking Risperidone, an atypical antipsychotic. Method: With discontinuing of antipsychotic drug, modified Yigan-san extract was administered for 12 weeks, and acupuncture and electroacupuncture procedures were performed 20 times. Results: Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS) score decreased from 23 to 3 during 59 days of treatment period without adverse events and worsening of depression. The Patient was highly satisfied. Conclusion: Modified Yigan-san and electroacupuncture (GB34) can be used as an treatment option in patients with drug-induced Parkinsonism.

Chronical intake of alcohol can cause alcoholic fatty liver. Fatty liver is caused by fat infiltration: the state of high rate of fat in liver cells and by losing the balance between the synthesis and the secretion of fatty acid. It could be developed into liver necrosis and cirrhosis. Ka-Mi-Chung-Gan-Tang (KMCGT) is a decoction used for fatty liver as oriental medicines in China. The prescription is composed of Ginseng Radix, Bupleuri Radix, Scutellariae Radix, Pinelliae Tuber, Artemisiae capillaris Herba, Gardeniae Fructus, Zingiberis Rhizoma, Zizyphi Fructus and Glycyrrhizae Radix etc. We have induced alcoholic fatty liver by ethanol administration (6 g/kg, single dose/day, for a week) on rats and observed changes of triglyceride, cholesterol and lipid peroxidation in liver tissues of them. Also we checked the activities of GOT and GPT in blood of rats. KMCGT inhibited significantly the increase of triglyceride, cholesterol, lipid peroxidation level and effectively the increase of malondialdehyde (MDA).

Experimental studies were undertaken to investigate for the effect of Yijin-tang on the digestive system and isolated uterus of rats. Yijin-tang was composed of five crude drugs; Pinelliae Tuber, Aurantii nobilis Pericarpium, Hoelen, Glycyrrhizae Radix and Zingiberis Rhizoma. The results obtained from experiments with water soluble fraction extracted from Yijin-tang were as follows; Spontaneous motilities of isolated ileum of mice and rabbits were suppressed, and contraction of isolated ileum of mice and guinea-pigs induced acetylcholine, barium chloride and histamine were inhibited. The anticathartic action of mice induced by castor oil were significantly observed. The spontaneous motility of isolated uterus of rats was suppressed. Inhibitory effect of gastric juice secretion and antiulcerogenic action were significantly shown in Shay rats.

We studied effects of Samreungjeon water extract (SE) on the proliferation of transplanted-L1210 cells to mice. Samreungjeon is composed of Scirpi Tuber, Zedoariae Rhizoma, Aurantii immaturi Pericarpium, Pinelliae Tuber and Hordei Fructus Germinatus. When SE (500 mg/kg) was administered orally once a day for 7 days after transplantation of L1210 cells to mice, the proliferation of transplanted-L1210 cells was decreased and DNA fragmentation of transplanted-L1210 cells was induced. Also, DNA fragmentation of L1210 cells was enhanced by co-culture with the peritoneal macrophages obtained from SE-administered mice and was partly inhibited by L-NMMA in vitro. SE enhanced the production of nitric oxide from murine peritoneal macrophages in vitro and in vivo. These results suggest that SE partly induces apoptosis of transplanted-L1210 cells via production of nitric oxide from macrophages.

This report describes 61 studies related to the use of Semen Armeniacae Amarum main blended prescriptions from Donguibogam. The following conclusions were reached through investigations on the prescriptions that use Semen Armeniacae Amarum as a key ingredient. Semen Armeniacae Amarum blended prescriptions are utilized for 16 therapeutic purposes, for example, in symptoms of cough, excrements, wind, and pediatrics. In particular, 52.46% of the prescriptions appear in the chapter of cough, and 9.84% of those appear in the chapter of excrements. Prescriptions that utilize Semen Armeniacae Amarum as the main ingredient are used in the treatment of cough, asthma, lung disease, and constipation, and they are also used for treating 15 different types of diseases. Semen Armeniacae Amarum is used in pathogenic factors such as wind, wind with cold, and wind with moisture, in pathologies related to lung and digestive systems, and in those related to weakness, extravasated blood, and alcoholic drink-food. The actual amount of Semen Armeniacae Amarum blended has ranged at a wide variety of amounts from 5 pun to 5 don. 47.62% of the prescriptions used 1 don. When Semen Armeniacae Amarum is combined with base prescriptions such as Samyotang, Banhaenghwan, ljintang, etc and Herba Ephedrae, Rhizoma Pinelliae, and Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, it ceases cough and asthma. In addition, when Semen Armeniacae Amarum is combined with Fructus Ponciri Seu Aurantii and Fructus Cannabis, it brings a relief in constipation.
