  • In this paper, a representation method for structure information retrieval without schema and DTD of XML documents is presented. While existing researches have used DTD or schema to extract structure information, we extract structure information directly from XML documents. Especially the well-formed XML documents are only required to retrieve documents in the proposed method. Thus it can retrieve more general and various documents easily compared to the existing XML retrieval systems requiring DTD or schema. Experimental result indicates that the proposed method retrieves effectively structure information of XML documents independently to DTD information.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of XML retrieval based on ORDBMSs(Object-Relational Database Management Systems) approach. This paper describes indexing and retrieval methods for XML documents and the methodologies of experiments at INEX(Initiative for the Evaluation of XML retrieval). Like any other traditional information retrieval experiment, the test collection was consists of documents, topics/queries, task, relevance assessments and evaluation. EXIMA$^{TM}$ Supply, a kind of native XML DB based on ORDBMS technologies, is used for this experiment. Although this approach has many benefits, for example, no delay in storing and searching XML documents. but it showed relatively disappointed retrieval performance at INEX 2002. This result may caused since the given topics had to be decomposed and modified to be processed by the XPath processor, and during this modification the original meaning of topics can be changed inevitably and some important information nay pass over.r.

  • As XML emerging as the Internet electronic document language standard of the next generation, the number of XML documents which contain vast amount of Information is increasing substantially through the transformation of existing documents to XML documents or the appearance of new XML documents. Consequently, XML document retrieval system becomes extremely essential for searching through a large quantity of XML documents that are storied in and managed by DBMS. In this paper we describe the design and implementation of BADA-IV/XML query processor that supports content-based, structure-based and attribute-based retrieval. We design XML query language based upon XQL (XML Query Language) of W3C and tightly-coupled with OQL (a query language for object-oriented database). XML document is stored and maintained in BADA-IV, which is an object-oriented database management system developed by ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute) The storage data model is based on DOM (Document Object Model), therefore the retrieval of XML documents is executed basically using DOM tree traversal. We improve the search performance using Node ID which represents node's hierarchy information in an XML document. Assuming that DOW tree is a complete k-ary tree, we show that Node ID technique is superior to DOM tree traversal from the viewpoint of node fetch counts.

  • As the web document of XML, an exchange language of data in the advanced Internet, is increasing, a target of information retrieval becomes the web documents. Therefore, there we researches on structure, integration and retrieval of XML documents. This paper proposes a clustering method of XML documents based on frequent structures, as a basic research to efficiently process query and retrieval. To do so, first, trees representing XML documents are decomposed and we extract frequent structures from them. Second, we perform clustering considering the weight of large items to adjust cluster creation and cluster cohesion, considering frequent structures as items of transactions. Third, we show the excellence of our method through some experiments which compare which the previous methods.

  • Vast amount of XML documents raise interests in how they will be used and how far their usage can be expanded, This paper has two central goals: 1) easy and fast retrieval of XML documents or relevant elements; and 2) efficient and stable management of large-size XML documents, The keys to develop such a practical system are how to segment a large XML document to smaller fragments and how to store them. In order to achieve these goals, we designed SCOF(Service-centric Object Fragmentation) model, which is a semi-decomposition method based on conversion rules provided by XML database managers. Keyword-based search using SCOF model then retrieves the specific elements or attributes of XML documents, just as typical XML query language does. Even though this approach needs the wisdom of managers in XML document collection, SCOF model makes it efficient both retrieval and management of massive XML documents.

  • In this paper, we design and implement a XML document retrieval system to support structure-based retrieval using the BRS/Search system that is a commercial search engine, The implemented system in this paper represents the logical structure of XML documents as the directory structure of the Unix file system. In addition, we define the database schema of BRS/Search system to store documents, We also implement a ETID extractor, a structure information extractor, a storage manager and a query processor additionally to support content retrieval, structure retrieval, mixed retrieval and attribute retrieval in the BRS/Search system.

  • As progressing rapidly to the information society and increasing greatly the amount of information, many researchers have been made utilizing XML to store and retrieval the information effectively. But, many other existing method could not support various structured retrieval method for specific parent, children and sibling nodes. In this paper, we propose (1)an effective method of representation for structured information and of indexing mechanism using OETID(Ordered Element Type ID) for effective management and structured retrieval of the XML documents. Also it contains another proposal that is (2) a documents integration mechanism for retrieval result and storing technique to store structural information of the XML documents. With our methods, we could effectively represent structural information of XML documents, and could directly access the specific elements and process various queries by simple operations.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the users' behaviour when interacting with elements based on XML documents retrieval system and develop approaches for XML retrieval which are effective in user-based environment. We followed the experimental guidelines from the INEX 2006 iTrack organizers. For the research goals, 16 responses from the questionnaires per subject and system logs were collected and analyzed using Excel and SPSS 17.0.

  • The paper proposes a pre-processing method for efficient processing of XML queries in information retrieval systems with a large amount of XML documents. For the pre-processing, we use a signature-based approach. In the conventional (flat document-based) information retrieval systems, user queries consist of keywords and boolean operators, and thus signatures are structured in a flat manner. However, in XML-based information retrieval systems, the user queries have the form of path query. Therefore, the flat signature cannot be effective for XML documents. In the paper, we propose a structured signature for XML documents. Through experiments, we evaluate the performance of the proposed method.

  • XML has emerged as the internet standard for information exchange among e-businesses and applications. Therefore, it becomes necessary to store XML documents in database for efficient management. This paper describes the design and implementation of XML documents storage and retrieval system based on object-relational database. The storage method first, decomposes XML document into Element, and then stores according to element types. The system also supports various search methods to retrieve XML documents from database.
