Proteolytic enzymes responsible for post-mortem degradation of the fish tissues have been studied in regard with screening the proteases distributed in the fish body by reacting with the specific synthesized substrates. Activities of cathepsin L, B, H, G, and D like enzymes were detected in the muscle crude protease from the both kind of fish, dark fleshed fish (anchovy, Engraulis japonica, and gizzard-shad, Clupanodo punctatus) and white fleshed fish (seabass, Lateolabrax japonicus, and sole, Pleuronichthys cornutus), however, those of chymotrypsin, trypsin, pepsin, and peptidase like enzymes were observed 3n the viscera crude pretense from the fish. Proteolytic activities of the muscle crude protease at pH 6.0 were similar to those of the viscera crude protease at pH 8.0, but, those of the viscera crude protease at pH 8.0 were about 2 times higher than those at pH 6.0. The muscle and viscera crude protease from anchovy showed the strongest proteolytic activity among the four fish crude proteases and the proteolytic activity of the viscera crude protease was approximately 100 times higher than that of the muscle crude protease, which suggest that viscera proteases were more contributed on the development of post-mortem changes than muscle proteases. With the degradation patterns on SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis against yellowtail myofibrillar proteins, the muscle and viscera crude protease of the four fishes were primary responsible for the degradation of myosin heavy chain, and myosin light chain and actin, respectively.

This study analyzed the executive characteristics of farmers in the achievement contents of prize winners who can be called advanced farmers. According to the analysis, advanced farmers were responsible for developing new agricultural technologies and extending into farmers in the 1990s to increase productivity. In the 2000s, individual farmers were organized to contribute to regional agricultural development by the advanced farmers. In the future, advanced farmers should play a role in the sustainable agriculture through the multi functional value oriented agriculture.

As the UN Fish Stocks Agreement has come into effect since 2001, the actual enforceable management on fish stocks in high seas has started. The Regioanl Fisheries Organizations (RFOs) have emerged as management bodies with a real responsible right to manage fish stocks. RFOs establish a strong and strict management rules providing a fishing right only to member countries and preventing all fishing activities from fishing vessels of non-member countries. In addition, RFOs have an own allocation way of fishing opportunity in their waters so that they can prevent the depletion of fish stocks. It is investigated that deep-sea fisheries have a negative impact from strengthening of RFOs' management right. As the amount of catch is reduced by the control of fishing vessel's activities, the level of fishing revenue becomes low. Moreover, as fishing costs such as oil, fishing fees, labor cost increase significantly, the condition of fishing business is getting worse as a result. In order to gain a fishing right for deep-sea fishing vessels in RFOs waters, there is no other alternative way but become a member of RFOs which are relevant to our fisheries but not joined.

The success of recirculating system depends largely on the treatment efficiency of waste generated in the system. fine solids were suspected to be responsible for fish kill in a recirculating system. Clogging of biofilter may be induced by high solids concentration in recirculating systems. Also, the solids could generate more ammonia nitrogen and oxygen demand if not removed out of recirculating system as soon as possible (Weeks et al., 1992). (omitted)
Fisheries constitute an important sector in national economic development, and estimate to contribute about 3% of the total GDP and 5% of the GDP in agriculture. Fish production from aquaculture has been estimated at 950 tonnes for 2004. In 2003, Ghana produced only 51.7% of its requirements from its domestic sources and in 2004, achieved 68.1% of its fish requirement through domestic production and imports. It has been estimated that the production from ponds and culture-based fisheries is worth about US$ 1.5 million a year. The aquaculture sub sector comprises largely small-scale subsistence farmers who practice extensive aquaculture in earthen ponds in contrast to the intensive practices of commercial farmers. There is one cage facility which produces 200 tonnes or 21.1% of the total output. There are several laws to regulate and govern the sector and the government has set up institutions that are responsible for developing fisheries and aquaculture policy and directing and establishing research priorities. The Directorate of Fisheries (DoF) is the lead government agency for aquaculture development and the Water Research Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is mandated to carry out aquaculture research. To promote fish farming, imports of farm fish are not allowed.
Aquaculture pollution is a major concern among the entrepreneurs, farmers and researchers. Excess discharge of phosphorus and nitrogen into the water bodies is the principal pollutant responsible for this. Plant-based feed ingredients due to its high phytic acid content enhances both nitrogen and phosphorus discharge thereby increasing the pollution level. Dietary phytase treatment is probably the best answer to address this problem. This review explains the nature and properties of phytate, its interactions with other nutrients and the application of phytase in aquafeed to reduce the pollution. This review also covers the different biotechnological aspects for lowering the phytic acid level in the common aquafeed ingredients, as an alternate approach to controlling the pollution level. Some of future research needs have also been highlighted to attract the attention of more researchers to this area.
This paper proposes revisions in the law governing assessments of the environmental impact of marine projects. In particular, we suggest strengthening the consultative role of the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MIFAFF), the agency responsible for regulating coastal area utilization and development, in order to improve the system by which fishery resources are managed, thus preventing negative environmental impact. Moreover, such an improved impact assessment statement would include reasonable evaluations of the dispersion of pollutants, such as the suspended solids generated by construction projects, as well as of the dredging, dumping and sand mining involved in coastal area reclamation. Thus, public confidence in the latter would be increased by the development and implementation of standardized and consistent guidelines addressing environmental research, simulation processes and evaluations of data.

Fertilization rates were over 90% when sperm from black porgy Acanthopagrus schlegelii acclimated and raised in freshwater and black porgy raised in seawater were fertilized with eggs from female black porgy raised in seawater, although cryopreserved sperm were significantly lower in fertilization rates than non-cryopreserved sperm. From the observations of embryos development at different salinities (0, 10, 20 and 32 psu) within 3 hours upon fertilization (16 cell stage), all were dead at 0 psu. However, the development process and speed at 10 and 20 psu were the same as at 32 psu. But, many developing embryos were egg envelope injury at low-salinities of 10 and 20 psu unlike at 32 psu. This is attributable to osmotic shock. Hatching rate of embryos at 32 psu was 60% or so, whereas low as 5% or less were successfully hatched at 10 and 20 psu, implying that osmotic shock could be responsible for the failure of embryo development.
The observer program is being utilized In various fishing areas and fisheries internationally and nationally due to the its expected effectiveness in fisheries management and the collection of bioeconomic data necessary in fisheries management policy. The timely gathered data by observers play substantially a major role in decision-making fisheries policy such as the change in management measures, the application of season closure and area closure and etc. The expected effectiveness of the observer program In fisheries management, generally mentioned, is that it would lead to the increase in stock size from which the level of harvest would consequently increases. This study is aimed to analyze this tentatively expected effectiveness of the observer program in fisheries management. The changes in stock size and the level of harvest over time are analyzed under the observer program assuming the fishermen bear the cost of the observer program by investigating the change in fisherman's fishing activity under the observer program and by combining this changed activity with the biological model. The level of fishing efforts of fishermen was decreased from the results of the increase in fishing cost caused by the observer cost and the decrease in catchable stock size restricted by observers. This reduced level of fishing efforts enables stock size to increase over time and therefore, the expected level of harvest increases as time goes on. Another benefit under the observer program is to reduce management costs from the fact that fishermen are responsible for the cost of the observer program and the avoidance cost of fisherman responding to the fisheries regulation could be eliminated from the surveillance of observer. Therefore, it may possible to accomplish the cost-efficient fisheries management policy.

Thirty-six dinoflagellate cysts, representing 15 genera were identified in the surface sediments obtained from the northwestern East China Sea. Three cyst morphotypes found in this survey have not previously been described in the East China Sea and adjacent waters: Selenopemphix sp. 2, Selenopemphix sp. 3 and Trinovantedinium sp. 1. In the northwestern East China Sea, Operculodinium centrocarpum, Spiniferites bulloideus and ellipsoidal cysts of Alexandrium were commonly observed. Moreover, it was recognized that the ellipsoidal cysts of Alexandrium, whose motile cells of A tamarense and/or A catenella are responsible to paralytic shellfish poisoning, distributed not only restricted to the coastal areas but also to the offshore stations far from the Changjiang River mouth.
