  • This study was designed to identify the relationships of role-conflict and role-overload, coping strategies, and stress response of clerical workers. The subjects were 115 clerical workers from two company. The instruments were the role-conflict and role-overload scale developed by Lee(1989), coping scale developed by Latack(1986), and the stress response scale developed by Chang(1993). Analysis of data was done by descriptive statistics, Cronbach's $\alpha$, Pearson correlation coefficietnt, ANOVA. The results of this study were summarized as follows ; 1. The average score for the level of stress response was $83.6({\pm}9.1)$. The high risk stress group was 86.1% of the clerical workers, the latent stress group members was 13.9%, and healthy group was 0%. The overall stress level was very high. 2. Considering the coping strategies by sociodemographic factors, the use of control coping strategies showed significant differences by work-time. The use of symptom management coping strategies showed significant differences by sex, age, married status, year of career, pay, and type of work. The organizational coping strategies showed significant differences by year of education and type of work. 3. The clerical workers who had worked below 44 hours per week complained significantly lower stress response(F=4.942, p<.05). 4. Above 65% of all respondents answered that they needed all of organizational level coping strategies. 5. The role-confilct positively related to escape and organizational level coping strategies(r=.562, r=.495, p<.05). The role-overload didn't related to individual level coping strategies, but positively related to organizational level coping strategies(r=.320, p<.05). 6. The control coping strategies and the escape coping strategies positively related to symptom management, organizational level coping strategies(r=.409, r=.324, r=.316, r=.339, p<.05). 7. The relationship between role-related stress and stress response revealed positive correlation(r=.482, r=.431, p<.05), and the relationship between stress response and control, symptom management coping strategies revealed negative cor-relation(r=-.3204, r=-.3146, p<.05). In conclusion, this study revealed that relationship of role related stress, coping strategies, stress response was statistically significant. The result of this study support that coping strategies vary across situation of stress. Based on survey results, future studies should consider coping strategies in specific stress situation and concept of symptom management coping strategy. Also organizational or training interventions could be developed and initiate to help to increase the use of adaptive coping strategies in light of individual and situational differences.

  • Purpose - Against the backdrop of the recent intense political conflict in Korea's political circles, it is to reveal from an economic point of view the hidden aspects behind the hostile conflict between the two political forces. Design/methodology/approach - This paper is not a normative study to find a solution to political conflict, but a positive study to reveal the mechanism of reciprocity that exists between the two parties of conflict in real politics. Therefore, the analysis is based on game theory methodology. Findings - It is shown that the ruling party should choose a level of preemptive response that is neither insufficient nor excessive if it aims to avoid radical anti-government struggles by opposition parties. We also find that even if the chances of success of the opposition's radical offensive struggle are low, the use of that strategy is not necessarily reduced. In addition, we have obtained comparative static results that do not deviate much from our intuition. What's interesting is that unlike our intuition that the choice of the method will be indifferent if the marginal effects of radical and normal methods of struggle are the same, the opposition party rather chooses the normal method of struggle more often. Research implications or Originality - In forming the analytical model, it reflected the support of the general public following the opposition's struggle against the ruling party in order to capture real politics well in the conflict between the two opposing parties.

  • Compromise is a conflict-resolution mechanism whereby both parties mutually make concessions and reach an agreement somewhere between their initial positions. In the process of a compromise, both parties may engage in three kinds of behaviors with respect to concessions. First, a party makes a concession in response to another's concession (a positive matching behavior). Second, a party makes a demand in response to another's demand (a negative matching behavior). Third, a party makes a concession/demand in response to another's demand/concession (a mismatching behavior). A situation is considered where a manufacturer intends to resolve a conflict with a distributor using a compromise. In this situation, a conceptual framework is addressed. This framework presents a set of variables affecting the likelihood that given a manufacturer's concession, the distributor engages in a positive matching behavior, Then, the framework explains how this positive matching behavior affects the distributor's commitment to the relationship with the manufacturer. Seventeen propositions are derived from the conceptual framework. Discussions on conflict-resolution strategies are developed on the basis of this framework.

  • Purpose: This study was to examine the possibility of the contact with pornographs of elementary school boys and girls and to confirm responses after that, and to compare the feeling of sexual conflict between the boys and girls. Methods: The subjects were 952 5th and 6th graders of elementary school in four city areas(456 boys, 496 girls). Data collection was via questionnaires Results: Except several pupils(34.4% of boys, 27.4% of girls), most of subjects of the study had no contact with pornographs. The response after the contact with pornographs was feeling of shame the most, which was a negative reaction. The sexual conflict appeared more in pupils who had contact with pornographs than in those who had not boys(t=3.84, p<.000), girls(t=3.96, p<.000), which showed a significant difference. However, the conflict between boys and girls was not significant statistically. Conclusion: We would like to suggest that a sound control system must be prepared and a development of programs related to sexual education and promotion of ability fighting against them that can release their impulse of sex.

  • In this study, the influences of the context of discrepant events on the conceptual change process using cognitive conflict strategy were investigated in terms of students' cognitive and motivational variables such as cognitive conflict, situational interest, attention, effort, conceptual understanding. A preconception test was administered to 536 seventh graders. A test of response to a discrepant event and a situational interest questionnaire were then administered. The context of discrepant events, either scientific or everyday, was randomly presented to the subjects. After learning the concept of density, the tests of attention, effort, and conceptual understanding were administered. The reponses of 194 students who had been found to possess the target misconception were analyzed. The results revealed that the scientific-context discrepant event induced higher cognitive conflict than everyday-context one. The context of discrepant events, however, did not show significant correlations with situational interest, attention, effort, and/or conceptual understanding. The result of path analysis indicated that the context of discrepant events both directly influenced cognitive conflict and indirectly influenced conceptual understanding via cognitive conflict.

  • Public conflict in domestic project has been increased and it results in direct and indirect damages. In order to reduce the loss, there have been diverse researches on the public conflict. However, most of researches tend to mainly focus on characteristics of the conflict. Considering the conflict occurred in SOC project, a research of conflict with project characteristics is necessary. In response to consider the relationships between characteristics of project and conflict, this paper aims to present the relative importance of the relationships. We conducted literature reviews and interviews with experts to select main characteristics of projects and public conflicts. Based on the selected four main characteristics each, we analyzed the relationships between them using Fuzzy AHP. The results show that SOC construction project type among project characteristics exerts the most important effect on overall public conflict. Especially conflict factors and conflict phases among public characteristics are critically influenced by project types. The findings provide a foundation for a conflict management reflecting varying public conflicts due to project characteristics.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an Instrument for the Measurement of Cognitive Conflict Levels of students who confronted with an anomalous situation in science teaming. Anomalous situation is generated when students' prediction is disconsistent with the observed fact. In this study, the researchers identified 4 components of cognitive conflict and developed three items for each component. The items were developed and revised by four pilot tests. In the first pilot test, 55 elementary school students participated in the test In the second pilot test, 88 students of the 5th and 6th grader participated in the test. The instrument of measuring cognitive conflict levels was given to the subjects right after demonstrating anomalous situation. For the demonstration, two different problem situations were developed: one was a pulley problem and the other was electric bulbs in parallel. Answered reasons for each items were analyzed to assess students' understanding on each items. In third pilot test, 125 elementary school students participated in the test. A factor analysis of the responses was carried out and reliability of the test was assessed by calculating internal consistency values. The items were finalized by three pilot tests. After 1 month after the third pilot test, researchers conducted the finalized test items to 323 students of the 5th and 6th grader. The final instrument showed moderate reliability (Cronbach-α 0.82∼0.87) and good content validity(0.93). A factor analysis of the response was carried out. 4 main factors completely coincided with 4 components that we supposed to be the conducts of cognitive conflict. The instrument can provide a means for both teachers and researchers to assess the cognitive conflict of a large number of students within a single class period. The results can be used by teachers to better understand the process of conceptual change of their students and to match instruction and materials accordingly.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the moderating effect of each of the three stress response (problem-centered treatment, pursuit of social support, and positive thinking) in the effect of work-family conflict between dual-earner couples on marriage satisfaction. To this end, 369 married couples (369 wives, 369 husbands) who raise children under the age of 6 were surveyed on stress coping (problem-centered, social support, and positive thinking), work-family conflicts, and marriage satisfaction. Based on the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM), the collected data verified six research models by distinguishing the moderating effects of each of the three coping strategies from the direction of Work to Family conflict and Family to Work conflict. Interaction graphs were also presented to determine the pattern of significant buffering effects. As a result, first of all, the problem-oriented strategy of the wife buffer the negative impact of the husband's WFC on the husband's own and wife's marriage satisfaction. It was also found that problem-oriented strategy that husband himself uses to buffer the negative impact of the husband's FWC on his wife's marriage satisfaction. Second, the pursuit of social support confirmed that the negative effects of the husband's WFC on the husband's marriage satisfaction were mitigated by the pursuit of social support used by his wife. Third, in the case of positive thinking, the effect of the positive thinking on the husband's WFC on the marriage satisfaction of the husband and wife was shown, and the positive response effect of the wife's FWC conflict was also shown. Finally, based on the results of this study, the discussion and implications of the study were presented.
