The availability and efficient use of the feed resources in Asia are the primary drivers of performance to maximise productivity from animals. Feed security is fundamental to the management, extent of use, conservation and intensification for productivity enhancement. The awesome reality is that current supplies of animal proteins are inadequate to meet human requirements in the face of rapidly depleting resources: arable land, water, fossil fuels, nitrogenous and other fertilisers, and decreased supplies of cereal grains. The contribution of the ruminant sector lags well behind that of non-ruminant pigs and poultry. It is compelling therefore to shift priority for the development of ruminants (buffaloes, cattle, goats and sheep) in key agro-ecological zones (AEZs), making intensive use of the available biomass from the forage resources, crop residues, agro-industrial by-products (AIBP) and other non-conventional feed resources (NCFR). Definitions are given of successful and failed projects on feed resource use. These were used to analyse 12 case studies, which indicated the value of strong participatory efforts with farmers, empowerment, and the benefits from animals of productivity-enhancing technologies and integrated natural resource management (NRM). However, wider replication and scaling up were inadequate in project formulation, including systems methodologies that promoted technology adoption. There was overwhelming emphasis on component technology applications that were duplicated across countries, often wasteful, the results and relevance of which were not clear. Technology delivery via the traditional model of research-extension linkage was also inadequate, and needs to be expanded to participatory research-extension-farmer linkages to accelerate diffusion of technologies, wider adoption and impacts. Other major limitations concerned with feed resource use are failure to view this issue from a farming systems perspective, strong disciplinary bias, and poor links to real farm situations. It is suggested that improved efficiency in feed resource use and increased productivity from animals in the future needs to be cognisant of nine strategies. These include priorities for feed resource use; promoting intensive use of crop residues; intensification of integrated ruminant-oil palm systems and use of oil palm by-products; priority for urgent, wider technology application, adoption and scaling up; rigorous application of systems methodologies; development of adaptation and mitigation options for the effects of climate change on feed resources; strengthening research-extension-farmer linkages; development of year round feeding systems; and striving for sustainability of integrated farming systems. These strategies together form the challenges for the future.

The purpose of this study was to explore a typology of time use and analyze differences in life satisfaction according to the types of time use in the rural elderly. The research subjects were 1,000 people aged 65 years and over living in the rural areas of Korea. The data were collected through structured questionnaires and a time-use diary. The statistical methods used in the analysis included calculation of the mean and the standard deviation, ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, cluster analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The time use practices of the rural elderly were classified into three types: work-leisure balance, work-oriented, and leisure-oriented type. Life satisfaction of the rural elderly differed according to the type of time use. The work-oriented types showed the highest scores of life satisfaction, and leisure-oriented types showed the lowest.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the family sharing time of housework and to examine the sharing time with family is influenced by socio-demographic variables. The Time Use Survey data collected by Korean National Statistical Office in 2009 is used. Among the total sample of 21,000 individuals, 9,179 samples who are married, aged from 20 to 59 years old and non-farmers are selected for analysis. The statistical methods are frequency, percentage, crosstabulation, t-test, and regression analysis. The following is a summary of the major findings. First, comparison of men and women shows women spend more time on housework than men do. But sharing housework time with family for men increase on Sunday. Performer average is almost same in men and women. Secondly, the family sharing time on housework is longer on Sunday. It is due to increase of men's family sharing time. It means that men's time substitute for women's housework. Thirdly, the influencing factors on family sharing housework are gender, age, education, presence of spouses, monthly income, dual earner status, weekly working hours, gender role atittude and presence of preschoolers. Family sharing housework is not only household labor but also family pleasure time. It means family policy should focus on making family time for workers fundamentally. And family policy needs to make a system of educational program for work-family balance.

Wireless network systems provide fast data transmission rates and various services to users of mobile devices such as smartphones and smart pads. Because many people use high-performance mobile devices, the use of real-time multimedia services is increasing rapidly. However, the preoccupation of resources by real-time traffic users is causing harm to other services-for example, frequent call interference, lowered service quality, and poor network performance. This paper suggests a resource allocation algorithm for effective traffic service support in a hybrid network. The main objective is to obtain an optimum value of data rates by comparing user requirements with the amount of resources that can be allocated. A new mechanism based on Adaptive-Quality of Service (QoS) and a monitoring system based on Queue-Aware are proposed. Adaptive-QoS supports effective resource control according to the type of traffic service, and the monitoring system based on Queue-Aware measures the amount of resources in order to calculate the maximum that can be allocated. We apply our algorithm to a test system and use Qualnet 4.5.1 to evaluate its performance.
South Africa has developed a policy and law that calls and provides for the equitable and sustainable use of water resources. Sustainable resource use is dependent on effective resource protection. Rivers are the most important freshwater resources in the country, and there is a focus on developing and applying methods to quantify what rivers need in terms of flow and water quality. These quantified and descriptive objectives are then related to specified levels of ecological health in a classification system. This paper provides an overview of an integrated and systematic methodology, where, fer each river, and each river reach, the natural condition and the present ecological condition are described, and a level/class of ecosystem health is selected. The class will define long term management goals. This procedure requires each ecosystem component to be quantified, starting with the abiotic template. A modified flow regime is modelled for each ecosystem health class, and the resultant fluvial geomorphology and hydraulic habitats are described. Then the water chemistry is described, and the water quality changes that are likely to occur as a consequence of altered flows are predicted. Finally, the responses to the stress imposed on the biota (fish, invertebrates and vegetation) by modified flow and water quality are predicted. All of the predicted responses are translated into descriptive and/or quantitative management objectives. The paper concludes with the recognition of active method development, and the enormous challenge of applying the methods, implementing the law, and achieving river protection and sustainable resource-use.

This study explores how unmarried workers use their leisure time according to the 2009 Korean Time Use Survey. The purposes of this study are: 1) to investigate leisure time as it relates to leisure participation rates and leisure participation time and 2) to analyze the effect of socio-demographic variables on leisure time and leisure participation by unmarried workers. The following is a summary of the major findings. First, leisure participation differed with variations in leisure activities. Unmarried workers participated in media contact, human relations activities, and hobby activities more than other activities. Participation in learning activities was higher on weekdays than on Sunday. Men participated in sports and outdoor activities more than women on Sundays. The participation rate of media contact was the highest, while the participation rate of volunteer activities was the lowest. Second, influencing factors on leisure time included gender, age, monthly income, and gender role attitudes when work time was controlled. For example, unmarried workers with egalitarian attitudes spent less leisure time. Third, gender was the strongest determinant of leisure participation. The probability of women's leisure participation was higher than men except in regards to sports and outdoor activities, and hobby activities.
The valuation of biodiversity is a fundamental step in conservation. The useful framework for analysing the economic value of biological resources is that of total economic value (TEV) and TEV comprises both use and non-use values, the former related to an actual use made of the resource, the latter to a willingness to pay for the resource independently of any use made of it. There are several valuation approacher in environmental economics literature. However, stated preference approach should be introduced for valuation of biodiversity because it can estimate non-use value as well as use value. Contingent Valuation and Conjoint Analysis are representative methods in stated preference and Conjoint Analysis can be more useful for valuation of biodiversity. Futhermore, the combination of ecology and economics to assess biodiversity leads to an integrated framework. Thus, interdisciplinary work is required, involving both economists and ecologists transferring elements or even theories and models from one discipline to another and transforming them for their specific, mutually consistent purpose.

This study was aimed at exploring gender differences in time use and time famine between single-parent families. Data were obtained from the time use surveys, that were conducted by the Korea National Statistical Office in 2014. A total of 500 time diaries (168 from fathers, 332 from mothers) from single-parents aged between 20 and 59 were analyzed. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test, and t-test were used for the statistical analyses. Results indicated that the single-parent families exhibit gender differences in time use and subjective time famine. The single-mothers spend a significantly longer amount of time on housework and less time on leisure than do the single-fathers. The single fathers and mothers also differ in time use and time famine according to employment status and working days on/off.

The proposes of this study were designed to practical use of credit cards on consumers in Kwang-ju. The 371 subjects formatted questionnaires were analyzed to frequency, percentage, crosstabulation and chi-square test by SPSS WIN 10.0. The main results of this study were as following : First, it is analyzed that most consumers have had more than credit cards. Second, it is tended that consumers have influenced to practical use of credit cards by sex, age, marriage, income and living expenses. Third, consumer is use to the spur of credit card, requirement about businessman, credit card connection system and distinction of sex, age, marriage, income, showed difference of relevant distribution between living expenses all. Based on the above, to make the use of credit cards practical and active, it needs more attention from consumers as well as it needs continuous efforts from the authorities concerned. Accordingly, to prevent consumers from overconsuming possibly by imprudent use of credit cards, it suggests systematic consumer training, from which consumers will learn responsible life as a consumer.
