In order to control interference and improve spectrum efficiency in the femtocell and macrocell overlaid system (FMOS), we propose a joint frequency bandwidth dynamic division, clustering and power control algorithm (JFCPA) for orthogonal-frequency-division-multiple access-based downlink FMOS. The overall system bandwidth is divided into three bands, and the macro-cellular coverage is divided into two areas according to the intensity of the interference from the macro base station to the femtocells, which are dynamically determined by using the JFCPA. A cluster is taken as the unit for frequency reuse among femtocells. We map the problem of clustering to the MAX k-CUT problem with the aim of eliminating the inter-femtocell collision interference, which is solved by a graph-based heuristic algorithm. Frequency bandwidth sharing or splitting between the femtocell tier and the macrocell tier is determined by a step-migration-algorithm-based power control. Simulations conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm showed the frequency-reuse probability of the FMOS reuse band above 97.6% and at least 70% of the frequency bandwidth available for the macrocell tier, which means that the co-tier and the cross-tier interference were effectively controlled. Thus, high spectrum efficiency was achieved. The simulation results also clarified that the planning of frequency resource allocation in FMOS should take into account both the spatial density of femtocells and the interference suffered by them. Statistical results from our simulations also provide guidelines for actual FMOS planning.

As wireless networks evolve to orthogonal frequency division multiple access(OFDMA) systems, inter-cell interference control becomes a critical issue in radio resource management. The allocation of the same channels in neighbor cells cause inter-cell interference, so the channel allocation needs to be taken carefully to lower the inter-cell interference. In distributed channel allocation, each cell independently tries to allocate channels that suffer low interference level. In this paper, under the assumption of static users, we introduce the concept of interference range and use it in designing our two algorithms; basic and combined. The basic algorithm performs interference range detection and determines whether to use the considered channel, while the combined algorithm checks the channel quality in addition to detecting the interference range. The two algorithms dynamically perform channel allocation with low complexity and show good throughput and fairness performance.

Resource allocation in device-to-device (D2D) aided cellular systems, in which the proximity users are allowed to communicate directly with each other without relying on the intervention of base stations (BSs), is investigated in this paper. A new uplink resource allocation policy is proposed by exploiting the relationship between D2D-access probability and channel gain among variant devices, such as cellular user equipments (CUEs), D2D user equipments (DUEs) and BSs, etc., under the constraints of their minimum signal to interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) requirements. Furthermore, the proposed resource-allocation problem can be formulated as the cost function of "maximizing the number of simultaneously activated D2D pairs subject to the SINR constraints at both CUEs and DUEs". Numerical results relying on system-level simulations show that the proposed scheme is capable of substantially improving both the D2D-access probability and the network throughput without sacrificing the performance of conventional CUEs.

Device-to-device (D2D) communication is an excellent technology to improve the system capacity by sharing the spectrum resources of cellular networks. Multicast service is considered as an effective transmission mode for the future mobile social contact services. Therefore, multicast based on D2D technology can exactly improve the spectrum resource efficiency. How to apply D2D technology to support multicast service is a new issue. In this paper, a resource allocation scheme based on cognitive radio (CR) for D2D underlay multicast communication (CR-DUM) is proposed to improve system performance. In the cognitive cellular system, the D2D users as secondary users employing multicast service form a group and reuse the cellular resources to accomplish a multicast transmission. The proposed scheme includes two steps. First, a channel allocation rule aiming to reduce the interference from cellular networks to receivers in D2D multicast group is proposed. Next, to maximize the total system throughput under the condition of interference and noise impairment, we formulate an optimal transmission power allocation jointly for the cellular and D2D multicast communications. Based on the channel allocation, optimal power solution is in a closed form and achieved by searching from a finite set and the interference between cellular and D2D multicast communication is coordinated. The simulation results show that the proposed method can not only ensure the quality of services (QoS), but also improve the system throughput.

Ultra wideband (UWB) technologies have been developed to exploit a new spectrum resource in substances and to realize ultra-high-speed communication, high precision geo-location, and other applications. The energy of UWB signal is extremely spread from near DC (Direct Current) to a few GHz. This means that the interference between conventional narrowband systems and UWB systems is inevitable. However, the interference effects had not previously been studied from UWB wireless systems to conventional wireless systems sharing the frequency bands such as broadcasting system. This paper experimentally evaluates the interference from two kinds of UWB sources, namely an orthogonal frequency division multiplex UWB source and an impulse radio UWB source, to a broadcasting transmission system. The S/N ratio degradation of broadcasting system is presented. From these experimental results, we show that in all practical cases UWB system can be coexisted 35m distance in-band broadcasting network.
This paper proposes a graph-theatrical approach to optimize spatial reuse by adopting a technique that quantizes the channel information into single bit sub-messages. First, we introduce an interference graph to model the network topology. Based on the interference graph, the computational requirements of the algorithm that computes the optimal spatial reuse factor of each user are reduced to quasilinear time complexity, ideal for practical implementation. We perform a resource allocation procedure that can maximize the efficiency of spatial reuse. The proposed spatial reuse scheme provides advantages in beamforming systems, where in the interference with neighbor nodes can be mitigated by using directional beams. Based on results of system level measurements performed to illustrate the physical interference from practical millimeter wave wireless links, we conclude that the potential of the proposed algorithm is both feasible and promising.

We investigate the optimal resource and power allocation for device-to-device (D2D) communications in a multicell environment. When D2D links reuse the cellular radio resources, each D2D user will interfere with a cellular link and other D2D links, in its own cell as well as in adjacent cells. Under such situation, we propose a coordinated resource allocation scheme that can handle the intercell interferences as well as the intracell interference. For a given resource allocation, we also formulate a power optimization problem and present an algorithm for finding the optimal solution. The resource and power allocation algorithms are designed to maximize the achievable rate of the D2D link, while limiting the generated interference to the cellular link. The performance of the proposed algorithms is evaluated through simulations in a multicell environment. Numerical results are presented to verify the coordination gain in the resource and power allocation.

D2D communication as an underlaying LTE-Advanced network has proven to be efficient in improving the network performance and decreasing the traffic load of eNodeB(enhanced NodeB). However large amount of interference can be caused by sharing the resources between the cellular users and D2D pairs. So, a resource allocation for D2D communication to coordinate the interference is necessary. Related works for resource allocation that D2D can reuse the resources of more than one cellular user with best CQI(Channel Quality Indicator) have been proposed. D2D communications may still cause interference to the primary cellular network when radio resource are shared between them. To avoid this problem, we propose a radio resource allocation algorithm with low computational complexity for D2D communication in OFDM-based wireless cellular networks. Unlike the previous works, the proposed algorithm utilizes unused ones of the whole resource. The unused resource allocate to on D2D pair can be shared only with other D2D pairs. In other words, if the distance between the D2D pairs is sufficient, we allowed more than two D2D pairs to share the same resources. The simulation results have proven that the proposed algorithm has up to 11 times lower computational complexity than the compared one according to the number of D2D.

In recent years, the Television White Space (TVWS) has attracted the interest of many researchers due to its propagation characteristics obtainable between 470MHz and 790MHz spectrum bands. The plenty of unused channels in the TV spectrum allows the secondary users (SUs) to use the channels for broadband services especially in rural areas. However, when the number of SUs increases in the TVWS wireless network the aggregate interference also increases. Aggregate interferences are the combined harmful interferences that can include both co-channel and adjacent interferences. The aggregate interference on the side of Primary Users (PUs) has been extensively scrutinized. Therefore, resource allocation (power and spectrum) is crucial when designing the TVWS network to avoid interferences from Secondary Users (SUs) to PUs and among SUs themselves. This paper proposes a model to improve the resource allocation for reducing the aggregate interface among SUs for broadband services in rural areas. The proposed model uses joint power and spectrum hybrid Firefly algorithm (FA), Genetic algorithm (GA), and Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm (PSO) which is considered the Co-channel interference (CCI) and Adjacent Channel Interference (ACI). The algorithm is integrated with the admission control algorithm so that; there is a possibility to remove some of the SUs in the TVWS network whenever the SINR threshold for SUs and PU are not met. We considered the infeasible system whereby all SUs and PU may not be supported simultaneously. Therefore, we proposed a joint spectrum and power allocation with an admission control algorithm whose better complexity and performance than the ones which have been proposed in the existing algorithms in the literature. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared using the metrics such as sum throughput, PU SINR, algorithm running time and SU SINR less than threshold and the results show that the PSOFAGA with ELGR admission control algorithm has best performance compared to GA, PSO, FA, and FAGAPSO algorithms.
