  • One of the major trends in traction power electronics is increasing the switching frequencies. The advances in the frequency elevation have made it possible to reduce the total size and weight of the passive components such as capacitors, inductors and transformers in the DC/DC converter and hence to increase the power density. The traction dynamic performance is also improved. This document describes several aspects relating to the design of resonant DC/DC converter operating at high frequency(10KHz) and the converter topologies and the control method of MAGLEV, which result in soft switching, are discussed.

Analysis, Design and Implementation of an Interleaved DC/DC Converter with Series-Connected Transformers

  • An interleaved DC/DC converter with series-connected transformers is presented to implement the features of zero voltage switching (ZVS), load current sharing and ripple current reduction. The proposed converter includes two half-bridge converter cells connected in series to reduce the voltage stress of the switches at one-half of the input voltage. The output sides of the two converter cells with interleaved pulse-width modulation are connected in parallel to reduce the ripple current at the output capacitor and to achieve load current sharing. Therefore, the size of the output chokes and the capacitor can be reduced. The output capacitances of the MOSFETs and the resonant inductances are resonant at the transition instant to achieve ZVS turn-on. In addition, the switching losses on the power switches are reduced. Finally, experiments on a laboratory prototype (24V/40A) are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed converter.

  • 본 논문에서는 전기자동차의 핵심부품인 DC-DC 컨버터를 LLC공진형 컨버터에 신소재(Ga-N HEMT)를 이용하여 설계함으로써 소형화가 가능하며, 공진주파수를 자유롭게 변경할 수 있으며, 2차측 출력부에 SR Topology를 추가하여 전원장치의 동작 시 효율 및 온도특성을 개선하는 설계기법을 제안하였다. 이를 통해 고효율과 소형화를 얻을 수 있도록 회로를 구성하였으며, 제안된 컨버터는 200[kHz]의 높은 스위칭주파수를 가지고 동작시키게 됨으로써 스위칭주파수의 변화 및 회로구현의 장점과 스위칭주파수의 극대화로 인해서 LLC 및 PFC의 사이즈를 40[%] 최소화 할 수 있었으며, 동작온도의 특성이 250W(12V/20A)에서 온도를 측정한 결과 방열판 없이 $60{\sim}65^{\circ}C$를 나타냄을 확인하였다. 이러한 설계결과를 토대로 향후 1[kW]이상까지 구현하고자 한다.

  • In this paper, bidirectional AC-DC converter using dual half-bridge converter is proposed. A transformer leakage inductance in the dual half-bridge converter is used for making resonance with the capacitor of the voltage-doubler, which can help the switched current to be sinusoidal without extra inductive component and also the switching loss can be reduced through operation such as ZVS, ZCS. Both circuit analysis and design guideline are described, and also the feasibility for the proposed converter is shown through the hardware implementation and the experimental results.

  • This paper presents a resonant step-down DC/DC converter to reduce the voltage stresses of a 3-phase inverter module under the three-phase AC utility line condition. Under this condition, a conventional 3-phase inverter module suffers from high voltage stresses as a result of the high rectified DC link voltage; hence, a high-cost high-voltage-rating inverter module must be used. However, using the proposed converter, a low-cost low-voltage-rating inverter module may be adopted to drive the motor even under the 3-phase AC line condition. The proposed converter, which can be realized with small size inductor and low-voltage-rating semiconductor devices, operates at a high-efficiency mode because of the zero-current switching operations of all the semiconductor devices. The operational principles are explained and a design example is provided in the study. Experimental results demonstrate the validity of the proposed converter.

  • This paper proposes a modified converter topology from the existing loaded resonant converter and describe the development of 10kW(50~500V, 0~ 50A) DC/DC Converter using the proposed topology. The suggested converter, which revised the topology of the converter operating on the CCM(Continuous Conduction Mode) (above resonance), has the advantage of enhancing the efficiency of rated load operation by rapidly increasing the primary side resonant current and by improving the resonance current in a trapezoid shape. The proposed topology is described with analysis of operating mode and designed using PSpice simulation and the points on design to consider when implementing the topology are described. It is verified that the advantages of the proposed topology centered on rated load are effectively highlighted. Experimental results carried out at different condition and its results shows 98.5% efficiency at full load condition.

직렬공진형 컨버터의 새로운 상태궤환 제어 (New State Feedback Control for Series Resonant Converter)

  • A new state feedback control scheme is proposed to improve the stability and dynamic performances of the series resonant converter (SRC). The proposed scheme can be easily implemented without speed limitation. Design parameter of the proposed control is the ratio of the state feedback gains. A closed loop dynamic modeling for the SRC with the proposed control law is derived. Parametric curves which can be used to select the design parameter in the control system are presented. The experimental results show that the excellent dynamic performance of the converter can be obtained by properly selecting the design parameter. The results are further compared with both the theoretical analysis and the frequency control.

  • A piezoelectric device which converts mechanical vibration energy into electrical energy is able to harvest energy and the usable energy is mW ${\sim}$ W, hence a converter is necessary to acquire the energy efficiently. Various limited conditions should be considered for the design of AC/DC converter for energy harvesting of a piezoelectric device supplying small amount of energy. In addition to simple structure, compact size, light weight and high efficiency, the energy harvesting AC!DC converter should adopt the technique of self operating, in which only the harvested energy from the piezoelectric device is available. This paper proposes new AC/DC resonant boost converter to harvest efficiently electrical energy from mechanical vibration energy, analyzes the operating characteristics of the converter and proves its feasibility for energy harvester with PSPICE simulation and experiment.

개선된 영전류 PWM 부스트 컨버터 (Improved ZCS-PWM Boost Converter)

  • 이 논문에서는 개선된 영전류 부스트 컨버터를 제안한다. 이 컨버터는 공진으로 인한 순환 전류를 보조 스위치와 인덕터를 이용해 보조 회로에만 흐르도록 하여 주스위치의 부가적인 도통 손실을 제거한다. 제한된 컨버터의 동작모드에 대해 설명하겠다. 또한 공진 파라미터의 설계를 설명하겠다. 제안된 컨버터를 5kw, 40kHz로 제작하여 실험결과를 토대로 확인하겠다.

  • This paper presents a high-frequency ZVS-PWM boost chopper-fed DC-DC converter with a single active auxiliary edge resonant snubber in the load-side which can be designed for power conditioners such as solar photovoltaic generation, fuel cell generation, battery and super capacitor energy storages. Its principle operation in steady-state is described in addition to a prototype setup. The experimental results of ZVS-PWM boost chopper-fed DC-DC converter proposed here, are evaluated and verified with a practical design model in terms of its switching voltage and current waveforms, the switching v-i trajectory, the temperature performance of IGBT module, the actual power conversion efficiency and the EMI of radiated and conducted emissions. And then discussed and compared with the hard switching scheme from an experimental point of view. Finally, this paper proposes a practical method to suppress parasitic oscillation due to the active auxiliary resonant switch at ZCS turn off mode transition with the aid of an additional lossless clamping diode loop, and reduced the EMI conducted emission in this paper.
