In this paper, we introduced a LIF measurement method and summarized the theoretical side. When an altered wavelength of laser and electric power, lamp applied electric power, we measured the relative density of the metastable state in mercury after observing a laser induced fluorescence signal of 404.8nm and 546.2nm, and confirmed the horizontal distribution of plasma density in the discharge lamp. Due to this generation, the extinction of atoms in a metastable state occurred through collision, ionization, and excitation between plasma particles. The density and distribution of the metastable state depended on the energy and density of plasma particles, intensely. This highlights the importance of measuring density distribution in plasma electric discharge mechanism study. The results confirmed the resonance phenomenon regarding the energy level of atoms along a wavelength. change, and also confirmed that the largest fluorescent signal in 436nm, and that the density of atoms in 546.2nm ($6^3S_1{\to}6^3P_2$) were larger than 404.8nm ($6^3S_1{\to}6^3P_2$). According to the increase of lamp applied electric power, plasma density increased, too. When increased with laser electric power, the LIF signal reached a saturation state in more than 2.6mJ. When partial plasma density distribution along a horizontal axis was measured using the laser induced fluorescence method, the density decreased by recombination away from the center.

A refractometric glucose biosensor incorporating a vertically coupled microring resonator in polymers was proposed and realized. The ring was covered with a target analyte of glucose solution with a certain concentration, so that its effective refractive index could be altered and, as a result, the resonance wavelength of the sensor was shifted. Therefore the concentration of the glucose solution can be estimated by observing the shift in the resonance wavelength. Two schemes were exploited for enhancing the sensitivity of the sensor. First, the effective refractive index of the polymeric waveguide used for the resonator sensor was adjusted to approach that of the target analyte as best as possible. Second, the ring waveguide, which serves as a crucial sensing part, was appropriately over-etched to enlarge its contact area with the analyte. The proposed resonator sensor was designed with the beam propagation method. The refractive indices of the core and cladding polymer involved were 1.430 and 1.375 respectively, leading to the waveguide's effective refractive index of ${\sim}1.390$, which is faiirly close to that of the glucose solution of ${\sim}1.333$. The prepared ring resonator with the $400-{\mu}m$ radius exhibited the free spectral range of 0.66 nm, the bandwidth of 0.15 nm, and the quality factor of 10,000. For the sensor operating at 1,550 nm wavelength, the achieved sensitivity was as great as 0.28 pm/(mg/dL), which is equivalent to 200 nm/RIU.

Background; The diagnosis of chlamydial infection is based on serology. The current gold standard of diagnosis is MIF(microimmunofluorescence), but this modality is subjective and time-consuming. Protein microarray with using a SPR(surface plasmon resonance) sensor has recently been suggested as a method for detecting infection. For developing a protein chip to diagnose chlamydial infection, EBs(elementary bodies) were immobilized on a gold chip and the interaction between an antibody for Chlamydophila pneumoniae and the EBs(elementary bodies) immobilized on the surface of the gold chip was measured by using an SPR sensor. Methods; For the surface antigen, the EBs of Chlamydophila pneumoniae LKK1 were purified. Charged arrays were prepared by using PDDA(polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride) which has a positive charge. After immobilization of the chlamydial EBs on the PDDA surface, the investigation of the surface was done with using atomic force microscopy. After the antibody for C. pneumoniae was applied on chip, we monitored the SPR wavelength-shift to detect any antigen-antibody interaction with using a self-assembled SPR sensor. Results; The chlamydial EBs on the positively charged PDDA were visible on the surface with using atomic force microscopy. The SPR wavelength increased after interaction of antibody for C. pneumoniae with the EBs immobilized on charged gold surface. The wavelength-shift was correlated with the concentration of antigens. Conclusion; The surface immobilization of EBs on the gold surface with the charged arrays was identified and the antigen-antibody interaction on the gold chip was detected via the SPR sensor. Further investigations are needed to apply this technique to the clinical field.

Localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) has been explored recently as a promising approach to increase energy conversion efficiency in photovoltaic devices, particularly for thin film hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) solar cells. The LSPR is frequently excited via an electromagnetic (EM) radiation in proximate metallic nanostructures and its primary con sequences are selective photon extinction and local EM enhancement which gives rise to improved photogeneration of electron-hole (e-h) pairs, and consequently increases photocurrent. In this work, high-dielectric-constant (k) $ZrO_2$ (refractive index n=2.22, dielectric constant $\varepsilon=4.93$ at the wavelength of 550 nm) is proposed as spacing layer to enhance the LSPR for application to the thin film silicon solar cells. Compared to excitation of the LSPR using $SiO_2$ (n=1.46, $\varepsilon=2.13$ at the wavelength of 546.1 nm) spacing layer with Au nanoparticles of the radius of 45nm, that using $ZrO_2$ dielectric shows the advantages of(i) ~2.5 times greater polarizability, (ii) ~3.5 times larger scattering cross-section and ~1.5 times larger absorption cross-section, (iii) 4.5% higher transmission coefficient of the same thickness and (iv) 7.8% greater transmitted electric filed intensity at the same depth. All those results are calculated by Mie theory and Fresnel equations, and simulated by finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) calculations with proper boundary conditions. Red-shifting of the LSPR wavelength using high-k $ZrO_2$ dielectric is also observed according to location of the peak and this is consistent with the other's report. Finally, our experimental results show that variation of short-circuit current density ($J_{sc}$) of the LSPR enhanced a-Si:H solar cell by using the $ZrO_2$ spacing layer is 45.4% higher than that using the $SiO_2$ spacing layer, supporting our calculation and theory.

Theoretical analysis is carried out for the curtoff wavelength characteristics of rectangular waveguide containing a step-ridge. In order to obtain the cutoff wavelength of step-rigde waveguide, an transmission matriz is formulated by the method of equivalent transverse resonance. The characteristic equation, in which the wavelength is obtainable by the numerical method, is derived from the equation. An approximate determination of the dominant mode fields in step-ridge waveguides at all frequencies has been made. Using these fields, the characteristic impedance equation is derived from power considerations. Analyzing the results of the calculations, the following characteristics are noted. The values of λ /a of TE10 mode increase with decreasing gap lengths and with increasing step width S or S , or both. Experimental results of cutoff characteristics are in good agreement with the theoretical analusis. It is shown that a waveguide within which a step-ridge is placed has a lower cutoff frequency and impedance than empty guide without it. Therefore, the role of a step-ridge guide is to broadening the bandwidth 2 to 3 times more than that of an empty guide of the same demension.
We have manufactured and characterized the fiber-to-Planar Waveguide Coupler for analysis of the photo-induced refractive index change of DM-BTE .(l,2-bis[2,5-dimethylthio-phen-3-yl]-hexafluorocyclopentene) When irradiated with ultraviolet light, the colorless diarylethene(DM-BTE)-crystal turned red while keeping the crystal shape. The red color was bleached by irradiation with visible light(λ>450 nm). The resonant wavelength was shifted and recovered owing to the refractive index variation of the planar waveguide because of its photo-functional properties on exposure to UV and visible light. The wavelength responses of this switch by UV exposure were measured as 0.057 nm/sec with saturation time of 60 seconds. and when illuminated by visible light, resonance wavelength variations were measured as 0.028 nm/sec, with recovery time of 140 seconds.

Perylene bisimide derivatives are developed for red organic phosphor because of their advantages, such as excellent luminous efficiency and high thermal stability. Despite these advantages, they have poor solubility characteristics in organic solvents and short emission wavelength as red organic phosphor for hybrid light-emitting diodes (LEDs). In this study, we prepared terrylene bisimide using a coupling reaction and swallow-tail imide group, which has excellent solubility. The structures and properties of swallow-tail terrylene bisimide (9C) were analyzed using 1H-nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR), Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), UV/Vis spectroscopy, and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The maximum absorption wavelength of (9C) in the UV/Vis spectrum was 647 nm, and the maximum emission wavelength was 676 nm. In the TGA, (9C) demonstrated good thermal stability with less than 5 wt% weight loss up to 415℃. In the solubility test, (9C) has a good solubility of more than 5 wt% in chloroform and dichloromethane. When the compounds (9C) were mixed with PMMA (polymethly methacrylate), the films showed peaks at 680 nm in the PL spectra. The results verify the suitability of (9C) as a red organic phosphor for hybrid LEDs.
In this paper, metal insulator metal (MIM) plasmonic slot cavity narrow band-pass filters (NBPFs) are studied. The metal and dielectric of the structures are silver (Ag) and air, respectively. To improve the quality factor and attenuation range, two novel NBPFs based on tapered structures and double cavity systems are proposed and numerically analyzed by using the two-dimensional (2-D) finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. The impact of different parameters on the transmission spectrum is scrutinized. We have shown that increasing the cavities' lengths increases the resonance wavelength in a linear relationship, and also increases the quality factor, and simultaneously the attenuation of the wave transmitted through the cavities. Furthermore, increasing the slope of tapers of the input and output waveguides decreases attenuation of the wave transmitted through the waveguide, but simultaneously decreases the quality factor, hence there should be a trade-off between loss and quality factor. However, the idea of adding tapers to the waveguides' discontinuities of the simple structure helps us to improve the device total performance, such as quality factor for the single cavity and attenuation range for the double cavity. According to the proposed NBPFs, two, three, and four-port power splitters functioning at 1320 nm and novel ultra-compact two-wavelength and triple-wavelength demultiplexers in the range of 1300-1550 nm are proposed and the impacts of different parameters on their performances are numerically investigated. The idea of using tapered waveguides at the structure discontinuities facilitates the design of ultra-compact demultiplexers and splitters.
