  • Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has emerged as a powerful technique for detecting and analyzing chemical and biological molecules at ultra-low concentrations. The effectiveness of SERS largely depends on structures with sub-10 nm gaps, prompting the proposal of various nanostructures as efficient SERS-active platforms. Among these, single-crystalline gold nanowires (AuNWs) are particularly promising due to their large dielectric constants, well-defined geometries, atomically smooth surfaces, and surface plasmon resonance across the visible spectrum, which produce strong SERS enhancements. This review comprehensively explores the synthesis, functionalization, and application of Au NWs in SERS. We discuss various methods for synthesizing AuNWs, including the vapor transport method, which influences their morphological and optical properties. We also review practical applications in chemical and biosensing, showcasing the adaptability of Au NWs-based SERS platforms in detecting a range of analytes, from environmental pollutants to biological markers. The review concludes with a discussion on future perspectives that aim to enhance sensor performance and broaden application domains, highlighting the potential of these sensors to revolutionize diagnostics and environmental monitoring. This review underscores the transformative impact of AuNW-based SERS sensors in analytical chemistry, environmental science, and biomedical diagnostics, paving the way for next-generation sensing technologies.

  • Irradiation of gold nanorods (GNRs) with laser light corresponding to the longitudinal surface plasmon oscillation results in rapid conversion of electromagnetic energy into heat, a phenomenon commonly known as the photothermal effect of GNRs. Herein, we propose a facile strategy for increasing the photothermal conversion efficiency of GNRs by integration to form graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposites. Moreover, conjugation of iron oxide (IO) with the GO-GNR nanohybrid allowed magnetic enrichment at a specific target site and the separated GO-IO-GNR assembly was rapidly heated by laser irradiation. The present GO-IO-GNR nanocomposites hold great promise for application in various biomedical fields, including surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy imaging, photoacoustic tomography imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, and photothermal cancer therapy.

  • 무금속 프탈로시아닌/산화아연계의 감광호(photosensitization) 효율을 높이기 위하여 무금속 프탈로시아닌$(H_2Pc)$을 요오드로 도핑[$H_2Pc(I)_x$]하였다. $H_2Pc$ 결정형에 따른 $H_2Pc(I)_x$의 요오드 도핑 함량(x)은 원소 분석한 결과 $X-H_2Pc(I)_{0.92}$이고 ${\beta}-H_2Pc(I)_{0.96}$로 나타났다. TGA 분석 결과 $H_2Pc(I)_x$에 존재하는 요오드는 약 265$^{\circ}C$에서 완전히 없어졌고, 514.5 nm로 여기시킨 $H_2Pc(I)_x$$ZnO/H_2Pc(I)_x$의 Raman 스펙트럼에서는 주파수가 90~550 $cm^{-1}$에서 $I_3^-$의 특성 피크가 나타났다. $H_2Pc$ 결정형에 따른 $ZnO/H_2Pc(I)_x$의 감광화 효과는 670nm에서 $ZnO/{\chi}-H_2Pc(I)_{0.92}$$ZnO/{\beta}-H_2Pc(I)_{0.96}$보다 광기전력이 5배 높게 나타났다. 그러므로 $H_2Pc$가 요오드로 도핑됨에 따라 광전도성이 증가되어 산화아연에 대한 가시부에서의 감광화 효과가 향상되었다.

  • We demonstrate a simple route to hybridize two different nanomaterials by using three-dimensional nanodishes that can be used as small plasmonic containers to host guest nanoparticles. Our nanodishes were fabricated using nanoimprint lithography and oblique-angle film deposition, and the guest nanoparticles were drop-casted onto the host nanodishes. Based on the proposed method, colloidal Au nanoparticles were assembled inside Au nanodishes in the form of a labyrinth. These Au nanoparticle-nanodish hybrids excited a strong surface plasmon resonance, as verified by a numerical simulation of the local field enhancement and by direct observation of the enhanced Raman signals. Our results point to the potential of the nanodishes as a useful platform for combining diverse nanomaterials and their functionalities.

  • We have investigated femtosecond coherent vibrational motions of Zn(II)-5,15-diphenylporphyrin in toluene using chirp-controlled ultrashort pulses. The oscillatory features superimposed on the temporal profiles of the pump-probe transient absorption signal are affected by the chirping and energy of excitation pulses. Using chirp- and excitation energy-controlled femtosecond pulses, we are able to obtain information on the structural changes between the electronic ground and excited states based on a comparative analysis of the Fouriertransformed frequency-domain spectra retrieved from the oscillatory components with the ground state resonance Raman spectra and normal mode calculations.

  • Graphene based nano-electronic and nano-electromechanical devices will be introduced in this presentation. The first part of the presentation will be covered by our recent results on the fabrication and physical properties of artificially twisted bilayer graphene. Thanks to the recently developed contact transfer printing method, a single layer graphene sheet is stacked on various substrates/nano-structures in a controlled manner for fabricating e.g. a suspended graphene device, and single-bilayer hybrid junction. The Raman and electrical transport results of the artificially twisted bilayer indicates the decoupling of the two graphene sheets. The graphene based electromechanical devices will be presented in the second part of the presentation. Carbon nanotube based nanorelay and A new concept of non-volatile memory based on the carbon nanotube field effect transistor together with microelectromechanical switch will be briefly introduced at first. Recent progress on the graphene based nano structures of our group will be presented. The array of graphene resonators was fabricated and their mechanical resonance properties are discussed. A novel device structures using carbon nanotube field effect transistor combined with suspended graphene gate will be introduced in the end of this presentation.

  • In this work, a new cadmium complex $[Cd(L)(CH_3COO)_2].2H_2O$ (1) with the ligand L, N,N'-bis(2-pyridinecarboxalidene)-1,2-cyclohexanediamine was prepared and identified by elemental analysis, FT-IR, Raman, $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The cadmium atom in the crystal structure of 1 has distorted triangular dodecahedral geometry by coordination of the four nitrogen atoms of L and four oxygen atoms of the two acetate ions. Two water molecules are also incorporated in the crystal network. The $O-H{\cdots}O$ hydrogen bonds present in the crystal structure of 1. In this work, three structural surveys including coordination numbers of the cadmium atom, coordination modes of L and resonance in pyridine-2-ylmethanimine-based compounds are presented.

  • Picosecond time-resolved resonance Raman spectroscopy has been used to study the photochemistry of Cr(CO$)_6$ in cyclohexane following photoexcitation at 266 nm. Photodissociative loss of CO is found to occur within our pulse width of ${\leq}$5 ps by probing the 533 c$m^{-1}$ vibrational mode of ground state Cr(CO$)_6$. The subsequent dynamics after photodissociation are interpreted in terms of solvation, vibrational and electronic relaxations. The vibrational relaxation time of 100 ps and 83 ps are observed by monitoring v=O and v=l of the 381 c$m^{-1}$ transient mode, respectively. No evidence was found for solvation and electronic relaxation occurring on a time scale of ${\leq}$5 ps.

  • Synthesis approaches usually affect the physical and chemical properties of ferrites. This helps ferrite materials to design them for desired applications. Some of these methods are mechanical milling, ultrasonic method, micro-emulsion, co-precipitation, thermal decomposition, hydrothermal, microwave-assisted, sol-gel, etc. These methods are extensively reviewed by taking example of ZnFe2O4. These methods also affect the microstructure and local structure of ferrite which ultimately affect the physical and chemical properties of ferrites. Various spectroscopic techniques such as Raman spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy, Ultra Violet-Visible spectroscopy, Mossbauer spectroscopy, extended x-ray absorption fine structure, and electron paramagnetic resonance are found helpful to reveal this information. Hence, the basic principle and the usefulness of these techniques to find out appropriate information in ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles is elaborated in this review.

  • Surface enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) has attracted attention because the technique enables detection of various chemicals, even down to single molecular scale. Among the diverse candidates for SERS substrates, Au nanoparticles are considered promising due to their fine optical properties, chemical stability and ease of surface modification. Therefore, the fabrication and optical characterization of gold particles on solid supports is highly desirable. Such structures have potential as SERS substrates because the localized surface plasmon resonance of gold nanoparticles is very sensitive to combined molecules and environments. In addition, it is well-known that the properties of Au nanoparticles are strongly dependent on their shape. In this work, arrays of shape-controlled Au nanoparticles were fabricated to exploit their enhanced and reproducible optical properties. First, shape-controlled Au nanoparticles were prepared via seed mediated solution-phase synthesis, including spheres, octahedra, and rhombic dodecahedra. Then, these shape-controlled Au nanoparticles were arranged on a PDMS substrate, which was nanopatterned using soft lithography of poly styrene particles. The Au nanoparticles were selectively located in a pattern of hexagonal spheres. In addition, the shape-controlled Au nanoparticles were arranged in various sizes of PDMS nanopatterns, which can be easily controlled by manipulating the size of polystyrene particles. Finally, the optical properties of the fabricated Au nanoparticle arrays were characterized by measuring surface enhanced Raman spectra with 4-nitrobenezenethiol.
