The purpose of this study was to evaluate microleakage of six current dentin bonding systems. In this in vitro study, class V cavities were prepared on buccal and lingual surfaces of thirty extracted human molars. Each margin was on enamel and dentin/cementum. Experimental teeth were randomly divided into six groups of 5 each. Group 1 : Scotchbond Multi-Purpose; Group 2 : Single Bond; Group 3 : Prime&Bond NT ; Group 4 : Clearfil Liner Bond 2 ; Group 5 : MAC Bond II ; Group 6 : One-up Bond F. The bonding agent and composite resin were applied to class V cavities according to manufacturer's directions. After thermocycling, the specimens were immersed in 0.5% basic fuchsin dye solution for 6 hours and sectioned longitudinally through the center of the restoration with a low speed diamond saw. The degree of microleakage was measured as the extent of dye penetration under the stereomicroscope at $\times$20. The data were analyzed using one way ANOVA. When significant differences found. multiple comparisons were made using Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The results of this study were as follows: 1. In all groups, leakage value seen at the enamel margin was significantly lower than that seen at the dentin margin(P<0.001). 2. At the enamel margin, none of the dentin bonding systems used in this study showed statistically significant difference in leakage values(P<0.05). 3. At the cementum margin, group 3 showed the highest leakage value, and others were decreased as group 5, 6, 4 in that order, and group 1, 2 showed the lowest leakage value. There was statistically significant difference between group 3 and the other groups except for group 5(P<0.05).
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the micro leakage of composite resin when various phosphoric acid agents were used to etch the enamel and dentin. In this study, class V cavities were prepared on the buccal surfaces of fourty extracted human molar teeth, and they were randomly assigned into 4 groups with 10 teeth. The cavities of each groups were etched with 10%, 32%, 35% and 37% phosphoric acids for 15 seconds, washed and dried and the cavities were restored with composite resin after application of the adhesive. The specimens were immersed in 2% methylene blue solution for 3 days. And then, the specimens were sectioned buccoligually. Degree of dye penetration at tooth-restoration interfaces was examined by Inverted Metallurgical Microscope at the occlusal and gingival margins. The result were as follows : 1. The degree of microleakage at occlusal and gingival margin in all group was statistically difference among 10% and 35% (P<0.01), 10% and 37% (P<0.01), 32% and 35% (P<0.05) and 32% and 37% (P<0.05) acid concentrations, but was not statistically difference between 10% and 32%, 35% and 37% acid concentrations (P>0.05). The degree of microleakage was showed to dimish with increase of acid concentration. 2. The degree of microleakage at the occlusal margin was statistically significant difference among 10% and 32%,10% and 35%, 10% and 37% acid concentrations(P<0.05). The degree of microleakage among 32% and 35%, 32% and 37% and 32% and 37% acid concentrations was not statistically significant difference. 3. In comparison of microleakage at the gingival margin, the degree of microleakage above 32% acid concentration was not showed less than 10% acid concentration (P>0.05). In comparison of 32%, 35%, 37% acid concentrations, the degree of microleakage at 35% and 37% acid concentrations was showed less than 32% acid concentration(P<0.05).

In this study, amine derivatives and ion exchange resins were selected to actively control penetration ions ($SO{_4}^{2-}$, $Cl^-$) as the element technology of repair materials for concrete structures in drainage environments. Ions ($SO{_4}^{2-}$, $Cl^-$) adsorption performance and corrosion resistance of calcium hydroxide solution with amine derivative and ion exchange resin were confirmed by ion chromatography and potentiostat analysis. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the amine derivative is excellent in the adsorption of chlorine ion and the ion exchange resin is excellent in the adsorption of sulfate ion. It has been confirmed that corrosion resistance can be increased by proper combination of two materials in the calcium hydroxide solution containing sulfate ion and chloride ion simulating sewage environment.

The objective of the study was to apply the vibration technique to reduce the viscosity of bonding adhesives and thereby compare the bond strength and resin penetration into dentinal tubules achieved with those gained using the conventional technique. Eighty-eight noncarious extracted human permanent molar teeth were sectioned to remove the coronal enamel and were embedded in 1-inch PVC pipe with acrylic resin. The occlusal surfaces were placed so that the tooth and the embedding medium were at the same level to form one flat surface, and the samples were subsequently polished with silicon carbide abrasive papers. The samples were randomly assigned to 4 groups(n=22). On Group 1 and 2, Single Bond(3M-ESPE, St. Paul, USA) was used, and on Group 3 and 4, One-Step(Bisco Inc., Schaumburg, USA) was used, and each was applied according to its manufacturer's instructions. For Group 2 and Group 4, vibration was applied with ultrasonic scaler for 10 seconds, and the adhesive was light-cured for 10 seconds. Resin composite was condensed on to the prepared surface in two increments using a mold kit(Ultradent Products Inc., USA) and each was light-cured for 40 seconds. After 24 hours in tap water at room temperature the specimens were thermocycled, and shear bond strengths were measured with a universal testing machine(Instron 4465, Canton, USA). To investigate infiltration patterns of the adhesive materials, the surface of specimen was examined with scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows. 1. The shear bond strengths of vibration groups(Group 2, Group 4) were significantly greater than those of the non-vibration groups(Group 1, Group 3)(p<0.05). 2. The shear bond strengths of Single Bond and One-Step were not significantly different (p>0.05). 3. The vibration groups showed greater number of resin tags in tubules and lateral branches under SEM.
In order to explore microleakage in class V cavity based on different kinds of several dentin adhesive and composite resin, 2 kinds of composite resin was restored and exposed after applying 4 kinds of dentin adhesives. Deposited in methylene blue solution for 4 hours and cut in parallel with tooth longitudinal axis. By observing dye penetration level of enamel and dentin margins of each restored resin following conclusion was obtained. 1. In composite resin Filtek Z350XT Universal (3M/ESPE Dental Products, USA) in enamel margin, Easy Bond (3M/ESPE Dental Products) showed the lowest microleakage and this leakage was represented to be high in the order of Single Bond 2 (3M/ESPE Dental Products), Scotchbond Multi-Purpose (3M/ESPE Dental Products) and Cearfil SE Bond (Kuraray Medical Inc., Japan). In case of Filtek Z350XT Flowable (3M/ESPE Dental Products), Scotchbond Multi-Purpose showed the lowest microleakage and this leakage was represented to be high in the order of Single Bond 2, Clearfil SE Bond and Easy Bond. 2. In case of Filtek Z350XT Universal in dentin margin, Easy Bond showed the lowest microleakage and this leakage was represented to be high in the order of Scotchbond Multi-Purpose, Single Bond 2 and Clearfil SE Bond. In case of Filtek Z350XT Flowable, Scotchbond Multi-Purpose and Single Bond showed the lowest microleakage and this leakage was represented to be high in the order of Clearfil SE Bond and Easy Bond. 3. In all the groups excepting S-U group (Single Bond 2+Filtek Z350XT Universal), enamel margin showed more higher microleakage than that of dentin margin. 4. There was a difference between enamel and dentin margin among each group but it was not significant statistically (p>0.05). When summarizing this result, it is considered that composite resin and dentin adhesive could be applied selectively and particularly in case of applying 1-step self-etching dentin adhesive, this method would be advantageous for manipulation convenience and shortening of operation time.
The purpose of this study was to compare the degree of microleakage of Glass-Ionomer root canal sealer possessed several enviable properties with that of the other sealers and to evaluate clinical performance. One hundred twenty single-rooted teeth were used in this experiment. The teeth were cleaned mechanically and immersed for 24 hours in 5.25% sodium hypochlorite and clinical crowns then were removed. After the root canals were instrumented using a step-back technique. one hundred twenty single-rooted teeth were divided into five groups of 24 in each. Group 1 : Tubli-Seal(Kerr Co., MI, U.S.A/ZOE-based), lateral condensation Group 2 : Sealapex(Kerr/Sybron, Romulus, MI/ $Ca(OH)_2$-based), lateral condensation Group 3 : AH 26(De Trey Co., Zurich Switzerland/Resin-based), lateral condensation Group 4 : Ketac-Endo(ESPE GMBH & CO. KG Seefeld:oberbay. Germany/ Glass Ionomer Cement-based), lateral condensation Control group : no sealer. lateral condensation And then. the root canals were obturated by lateral condensation technique with gutta-percha and experimental sealers. The control group were obturated without sealer. The teeth were placed in a vacuum chamber for 15 minutes and immersed 2% methylene blue under vacuum for 15 minutes. The teeth were passively stained for 1 week and 2 weeks and were cleared and evaluated for linear dye leakage using Tool maker's microscope(${\times}200$). The results were as follows: 1. There were statistically significant differences in the degree of dye penetration between the control group and experimental groups(p<0.05). 2. In the experimental groups, Sealapex($1.2871{\pm}0.9180mm$) exhibited the lowest mean value of dye penetration, followed by Ketac-Endo($1.4432{\pm}0.8082mm$), AH 26($1.5030{\pm}0.7752mm$) and Tubli-Seal($1.6458{\pm}1.0292mm$)(p>0.05). 3. There were statistically significant differences in the variation of microleakage between 1 week and 2weeks in Tubli-Seal and Seal apex groups (p<0.05). 4. The degree of dye penetration of all groups were increased as the time elapsed and AH 26 showed the lowest variation(+0.11) and Tubli-Seal(+ 1.03) showed the highest variation (p<0.001).
Mechanical properties and microleakage of two composites [conventional hybrid type DenFil (VERICOM Co., Anyang, Korea) / micro matrix hybrid type Esthet X (Dentsply Caulk, Milford, DE, U.S.A.)] were evaluated to assess whether variable light intensity curing is better than conventional curing technique. Curing was done for 40 seconds in two ways of 2 step soft-start technique and 5 step ramping technique. Three kinds of light intensities of 50, 100, $200{\;}mW/\textrm{cm}^2$ were initially used for 10, 20, 30 seconds each and the maximum intensity of $600 {\;}mW/\textrm{cm}^2$ was used for the rest of curing time in a soft-start curing tech nique. In a ramping technique, curing was done with the same initial intensities and the light intensity was increased 5 times with the same rate to the maximum intensity of $600{\;}mW/\textrm{cm}^2$. After determining conditions that showed no different mechanical properties with conventional technique, Esthet X composite was filled in a class V cavity, which dimension was $4{\times}3{\times}1.5{\;}mm$ and cured under those conditions. Microleakage was evaluated in two ways of dye penetration and maximum gap estimation through SEM observation. ANOVA and Spearman's rho test were used to confirm any statistical significance among groups. The results were as follows : 1 Several curing conditions of variable light intensities resulted in the similar mechanical properties with a conventional continuous curing technique, except conditions that start curing with an initial light intensity of $50{\;}mW/\textrm{cm}^2$. 2. Conventional and ramping techniques were better than soft-start technique in mechanical properties of microhardness and compressive strength. 3. Soft-start group that started curing with an initial light intensity of $100{\;}mW/\textrm{cm}^2$ for 10 seconds showed the least dye penetration. Soft-start group that started curing with an initial light intensity of $200{\;}mW/\textrm{cm}^2$ for 10 seconds showed the smallest marginal gap, if there was no difference among groups. 4. Soft-start technique resulted in better dye-proof margin than conventional technique(p=0.014) and ramping technique(p = 0.002). 5. There was a very low relationship(p=0.157) between the methods of dye penetration and marginal gap determination through SEM evaluation. From the results of this study, it was revealed that ramping technique would be better than conventional technique in mechanical properties, however, soft-start technique might be better than conventional one in microleakage. It was concluded that much endeavor should be made to find out the curing conditions, which have advantages of both aspects or to solve these kinds of problems through a novel idea of polymerization.

The development of safe and suitable hydrogen storage materials is one of key issues for commercializing hydrogen as an energy carrier. Carbon based materials have been investigated for many years to store hydrogen by the adsorption of the gas on the surface of the carbon structure. Recently, it is reported that carbon nitride nanobells have high hydrogen storage capacity since the nitrogen atom plays an important role on attracting hydrogen molecules. Here we report carbon nitride microporous spheres (CNMS) which have the maximum surface area of 995.3 $m^2/g$. Melamine-Formaldehyde resin is the source of carbon and nitrogen in CNMS. Most of the CNMS pores have diameters in the range of 6 to 8 A which could give a penetration energy barrier to a certain molecule. In addition, the maximum hydrogen storage capacities of carbon nitride spheres are 1.9 wt% under 77 K and 1 atm.
The conventional radiation barriers may show some disadvantages such as heavy weight and possibility of poisoning human bodies because they are composed of lead plates or resin plates containing large amounts of lead powders. Another disadvantage may be direct penetration of radiation through small pin holes. In this article, technologies of multi-layered polymer barriers against radiation, which has been extensively focused recently, will be introduced. A new concept of radiation protection as well as improving endurance with employing nano-layered inorganic particles is introduced.

The purpose of the present study was to analyze the pulpal tissue reactions to several capping materials. 8 adult Mongrel dogs and 4 different capping materials (G I : Calcium hydroxide, G II : Bonding resin, G III : Glass ionomer liner, G IV : Bioactive ceramic) we-reused in the study. The results can be summarized as follows : 1. The formation of hard tissue barrier was observed to begin after 2 weeks in all groups with various forms or positions. 2. According to the result of statistical analysis, G I and G IV showed significantly higher degree of inflammation than G II, G III in 1-week samples(p<.05). And in 2-week samples, G I showed higher degree of inflammation than G II, G IV with statistical significance(p<.05). Howere, these inflammatory reactions have gradually dimiished with time resulting in negligible difference between groups. 3. No bacterial penetration was observed in any group. 4. Hard tissue formation was evident in all groups after 2 weeks regardless of material type in this experiment. Conclusion can be drawn from the above-mentioned results that the perfect marginal sealing after pulp capping procedure is thought to be the most important factor in determining the propgnosis of direct pulp capping.
