녹차엽 주입에 따른 수돗물의 수질 변화 (Changes of Tap Water from the Preparation of Green Tea Leaves)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the physicochemical characteristics with the elapsed time of $1\~10$ minutes after adding green tea leaves in the tap water. The results are summarized as follows: 1. $UV_{254}$ measurement increased sharply in direct opposition to increasing conductivity slowly. It is expected that the water soluble organic matters were better extracted than minerals. 2. Residual chlorine decay coefficients evaluated by assuming first-order reaction was increased in proportion to adding weights of green tea leaves. 3. In DBP formation experiments, residual chlorine decreased when reaction time was elapsed. whereas DBPs such as HAAs and THMs increased with the passing of time. From these results, it was showed that residual chlorine decay was related with the formation of DBPs. Therefore, use of boiled tap water in preparation of green tea is suggested if the residual chlorine in the tap water is high.

정수처리과정(淨水處理過程)에서의 잔류불소(殘留弗素)이온 거동(擧動)에 관한 연구(硏究) (A Study on the Behavior of Residual Fluoride in Water Treatment Process)

  • Fluoridation of drinking water to a level of about 0.8mg/l (below 1.5mg/l) for reducing the incidence of tooth decay is recommended. However, concerns about potential problems of unknown effects and overdosing hinders the fluoridation. This study describes the work performed to obtain information on the behavior of fluoride under various conditions in the process of water fluoridation. Effects of water treatment chemicals, water treatment unit, and water distribution on water fluoridation were investigated at both lab and an actual water treatment plant. Residual fluoride concentration was not affected by lime and chlorine dosage up to 20mg/l. Flocculation with PAC slightly decreased the residual fluoride concentration as PAC dosage increased. Average fluoride concentration of 0.87mg/l at an intake basin was decreased to 0.83mg/l by sedimentation, 0.81mg/l by dual media(sand+anthracite) filtration, and 0.79mg/l by granular activated carbon filtration in the water treatment plant.

준설매립토 및 화강풍화토의 흙-수분 특성곡선에 관한 연구 (A Study on Soil-Water Characteristic Curves of Reclaimed Soil and Weathered Granite Soil)

  • Unsaturated soil has a possibility to induce a negative pore water pressure. Until now, saturated soil is mainly focused on the research of soil mechanics. Recently, soil mechanics is researched on two major parts such as saturated and unsaturated soil mechanics. Negative pore water pressure has a non-linear relationship with the water content changes. Soil-water characteristic curves of soil in Korea are not determined. There is no proper characteristic value such as air-entry value and residual water content. In this study, the characteristic curves of reclaimed soil, sand, and weathered granite soil were determined by laboratory tests. Air-entry value and residual water content were determined by fitting methods. Soil-water characteristic curves were estimated based on the particle-size distribution and compared with the laboratory test results. The results of soil-water characteristic curves estimation indicated that Fredlund and Wilson's model is excellent for sand and weathered granite soil. Arya and Paris's model is excellent for reclaimed soil.

대구 지역의 계절 변화에 따른 급수관내 잔류염소 농도 거동 (The Seasonal Variation of Free Chlorine Residuals by Water Supply Distance in Daegu)

  • This paper presents the integrated technique of water quality analysis and Geographic Information System(GIS) for assessing the variation of free chlorine residuals by water temperature and supply distance in Sangri water supply system in Daegu. GIS was utilized for mapping projectmap, extraction of a pipeline route, and supply distance. Free chlorine residual is analyzed every month for appraising the seasonal variation. As a result, free chlorine residuals are affected both water temperature and water supply distance, and it becomes worse as water temperature and water supply distance is increased. To maintain 0.4mg/l of free chlorine residual, initial dose concentration should be over 1.85mg/l in summer.

  • 유기 석유화학 오염 물질인 휘발유가 지하 분포 시, 지하수면 위 토양 매질(vadose zone)내에 존재할 수 있는 기체 상태(vaporphase)와, 지하수면의 상승 또는 하강에 의해 분포 할 수 있는 residual phase의 유류 오염 물질이 GPR에 미치는 반응을 조사하기 위하여 모래와 자갈을 토양 매질로서 채운 탱크를 이용한 모델 실험이 수행되었다. 물만 사용하여 지하수면의 상승과 하강을 유도한 후, 석유 수송을 위하여 지하에 매장된 파이프 혹은 석유저장을 위한 지하 탱크로부터 지하수면으로의 유류 오염을 simulation하기 위하여 모델 탱크바닥을 통하여 휘발유가 주입되었다. 본 연구 결과, 수분 함량에 따른 GPR의 민감성과 지하수면의 변화 관측에의 GPR 효율성이 입증되었다. 또한, 휘발성 유류 오염 물질의 기체상태가 vadose zone에 분포 시 GPR를 이용하여 탐지할 수 있는 가능성과, 지하수면의 상승에 의해 지하수면 밑의 물로 포화된 토양(water saturated zone)에 분포할 수 있는 residual phase의 유류 오염 물질의 탐지 가능성이 모델 실험을 통하여 확립되었다 그리고, residual phase의 유류 오염 물질이 지하수면 아래에 분포하는 오염지역에서 GPR을 이용한 유류 오염물질을 탐지할 수 있는 새로운 탐사전략이 제시되었다.

세라믹 막 정수공정에서 발생하는 배출수의 농축특성 (Thickening Characteristics of Residual from a Ceramic Membrane Water Treatment Plant)

  • For a more effectively designed gravity thickener, thickening experiments were conducted for residuals produced by a ceramic membrane water treatment plant (WTP). Two kinds of residuals, one from backwashing (BW) and the other from chemically enhanced backwashing (CEB) procedure, were separately collected during a pilot plant experiment and their limiting solid flux ($SF_L$) measured. Batch thickening experiments showed that the BW and CEB residual had $SF_L$ of 10 and $25kg/m^2{\cdot}d$, respectively. Continuous operation of a pilot-scale gravity thickener proved that a mixed BW and CEB residual could be successfully thickened at the solid loading rate (SLR) of $12kg/m^2{\cdot}d$, allowing the concentration of the thickened residual to be about $15kg/m^2{\cdot}d$. From the experimental results and consideration of the seasonal thickening characteristics of the residual, SLR of $15kg/m^2{\cdot}d$ was proposed as a design parameter for full-scale gravity thickeners.

수중 Humic Acid의 효율적 응집처리와 잔류알루미늄 감소방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Coagulation of Aquatic Humic Acid and Reducing Residual Aluminum)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate and compare the effective coagulation of commercial humic acid which is well known as major precursor of trihalomethane, with LAS and PAC and to quantify the residual aluminum in the treated water. Then the optimum pH, the dosage of coagulant were determined. 1. Humic acid concentrati6n, UV absorbance and color were well correlated and UV absorbance(254 nm) and color seem to be used in quntificative analysis of humic acid of same kind. 2. Optimal dosage of LAS and PAC increase as humic acid concentration increases. And optimal pH range for coagulation using LAS is pH 5.5-7.0 and pH 3.5-6.5 for PAC. Within these ranges the removal efficiency is 90-99%. 3. The results of quantification of residual aluminum in treated water shows that minimal aluminum remains on the optimal coagulation condition. But the residual aluminum increses as the dosage of coagulant is beyond the optimal range. Thus the dosage of coagulant should be chosen with the condition on which humic acid removal is maximum and the residual aluminum concentration is minimum. 4. In the water treatment process the raw water pH range is 6.5-8.0, and it seems to be possible to remove humic acid by charge neutralization not by sweep floc. But it should be considered that different commercial humic acids have different physical and chemical characteristics.

Indefinite sustainability of passive residual heat removal system of small modular reactor using dry air cooling tower

  • The small modular reactors (SMRs) of the integrated pressurized water reactor (IPWR) type have been widely developed owing to their enhanced safety features. The SMR-IPWR adopts passive residual heat removal system (PRHRS) to extract residual heat from the core. Because the PRHRS removes the residual heat using the latent heat of the water stored in the emergency cooldown tank, the PRHRS gradually loses its cooling capacity after the stored water is depleted. A quick restoration of the power supply is expected infeasible under station blackout accident condition, so an advanced PRHRS is needed to ensure an extended grace period. In this study, an advanced design is proposed to indirectly incorporate a dry air cooling tower to the PRHRS through an intermediate loop called indefinite PRHRS. The feasibility of the indefinite PRHRS was assessed through a long-term transient simulation using the MARS-KS code. The indefinite PRHRS is expected to remove the residual heat without depleting the stored water. The effect of the environmental temperature on the indefinite PRHRS was confirmed by parametric analysis using comparative simulations with different environmental temperatures.

고도처리공정이 관로 내 잔류염소 감소 및 THM 생성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Advanced Treatment Process for Residual Chlorine Decay and THM Formation in Water Distribution System)

  • 깨끗하고 안전한 수돗물에 대한 소비자들의 욕구가 커짐에 따라 막, 오존, 활성탄 등 다양한 고도처리공정이 정수장에 도입되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 고도처리공정의 도입으로 인한 관로 내 잔류염소 감소 및 THM 생성특성에 대하여 살펴보았다. 오존, 활성탄, 오존/GAC 공정별 DOC 제거특성과 bottle test를 이용한 잔류염소 감소 및 THM 생성특성을 평가하였다. 모든 처리공정에서 DOC 제거율보다 $UV_{254}$ 유발물질의 제거율이 우수한 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 오존공정에 의한 DOC 제거율은 기존 모래여과수 대비 약 4%에 불과하였으나, $UV_{254}$는 약 17%로 DOC 제거율보다 훨씬 더 큰 차이를 보였는데, 이는 오존에 의해 소수성 유기물이 친수성 유기물로 변환되었기 때문이다. 오존/GAC 공정이 유기물 제거에 가장 효과적이었으며, 모래여과, 오존, GAC, 그리고 오존/GAC공정을 거친 처리수의 잔류염소 감소계수는 각각 0.0230, 0.0307, 0.0117 그리고 0.0098 $hr^{-1}$ 나타났으며, 190시간 반응 이후 모래여과수는 THM이 81.8 ${\mu}g/L$ 생성된 반면, 오존, GAC, 그리고 오존/GAC의 처리수는 모래여과수에 비해 각각 6.0, 26.2, 30.3% 적게 생성되었다. 결론적으로 고도처리공정에 의해 관로 내 잔류염소의 지속성이 증대되었으며, THM 생성 또한 감소하는 것으로 나타났다.

상수관로의 잔존수명 평가를 위한 통계적 방법론 (A Statistical Methodology for Evaluating the Residual Life of Water Mains)

  • This paper provides a method for evaluating a residual life of water mains using a proportional hazard model(PHM). The survival time of individual pipe is defined as the elapsed time since installation until a break rate of individual pipe exceeds the Threshold Break Rate. A break rate of an individual pipe is estimated by using the General Pipe Break Model(GPBM). In order to use the GPBM effectively, improvement of the GPBM is presented in this paper by utilizing additional break data that is the cumulative number of pipe break of 0 for the time of installation and adjusting a value of weighting factor(WF). The residual lives and hazard ratios of the case study pipes of which the cumulative number of pipe breaks is more than one is estimated by using the estimated survival function. It is found that the average residual lives of the steel and cast iron pipes are about 25.1 and 21 years, respectively. The hazard rate of the cast iron pipes is found to be higher than the steel pipes until 20 years since installation. However, the hazard rate of the cast iron pipes become lower than the hazard rates of the steel pipes after 20 years since installation.
