  • In this paper, in order to analyze the response characteristics of the smoke detectors which is suitable with the residential fire detector, the paper fire and flammable liquid fire experiment came to be accomplished according to UL Standard for safety for smoke detector for fire alarm signaling systems, UL 268. Also Photoelectric smoke detector, the Analog smoke detector and the single station alarm device came to be used with the specimen and the response characteristics of the smoke detectors which follows in these two types(paper, flammable liquid) test fire came to be analyzed. As a result, according to test fire there was some difference to response characteristics of the smoke detectors.

  • After the fire in Grenfell, a special fire safety survey was conducted, and the spirit of building fire safety is increasing. However, as can be seen from the fact that more than 80 people were injured in the Ulsan residential fire in 2020, there are no cases of making it a life safety standard for buildings, and there is an urgent need to investigate this. In this research, we will investigate the five fires that occurred in Grenfell, England, derive the problems, and use them as basic data for establishing the safety standards for Korean-style human life in the future.

  • This study presents problems and improvement measures for the supply rate of single-alarm detector and fire extinguisher installed in households. Statistics from the NFDS show that 18 percent of all fires and 45 percent of deaths occurred in residential buildings over the past eight years. It was less than 60% that households be equipped rate of basic fire-fighting systems by 2019. In this study, I analyzed the law and statistics of fire to devise a method for fire safety. I proposed that the basic fire-fighting systems is be equipped in households. Like this : First, a free distribution policy for the over 60 years of age and Areas where is fire engine difficult to enter. Second, the policy of adopting safety pay in disaster. Third, the policy of expanding supply through the revision of the Licensed Real Estate Agents Act. Fourth, the policy of self-regulating installation by safety education and set up a data base system. Fifth make a law of household's National Fire Safety Standards.

  • The range of special management target facilities is seperated by the building sector and the field of civil engineering. In the present study, the risk analysis was performed, related to fire occurred for the last five years, in the field of residential and non-residential facilities in buildings. Most of fire incidents occurred in residential and non-residential facilities was the cause of the electrical, and the resulting casualties were also very high. Therefore, based on the results, the risk evaluation index was developed, identifying the causes of fire occur and doing the fire vulnerability analysis for each facility. The result of this study can be utilized safety management to these facilities for the future, especially, inducing a more specialized and intensive safety management.

  • Recently, due to fires in high-rise residential and commercial buildings and apartments in Ulsan and Busan, the issue of evacuation safety in the event of a building fire is being closely watched. In the evacuation safety design for these building fires, it is important to secure evacuation routes considering the spatial characteristics of the building or the characteristics of the occupants and to take measures to protect the evacuation routes in order to ensure the safety of the occupants in the event of a fire. Although simulation is mainly used in Korea to assess the safety of evacuation, there is a big difference in that the Building Standards Act provides tools that can be calculated more than simulation in neighboring Japan. In addition to the evaluation method, which is called the "Building Law Assessment Methods" in Japan, the research team considered that it is important to know the process of evaluation in future domestic research, and investigated the contents of the evaluation process and wanted to apply it first to domestic buildings in the future.

  • Heat release characteristics of live fire load are an important parameter for performance oriented fire safety design of a building. While investigations have been carried out on the fire load and its burning behavior in office, residential and commercial buildings and so on, little effort has been paid for the rational treatment of fire load in bookstore. In this report, burning behavior of typical combustible objects in bookstore are studied by measuring heat release rates of bookshelf with book. Based on the results, it has reviewed fire safety when a fire accident occurs on the large bookstore and suggested peak heat release rate per burning surface, fire growth rate, etc of the live fire load required for fire safety design in bookstore.

  • With rapid growths of economy and technology, structures and forms of buildings have been diversified and complicated. Buildings also have become higher and larger than ever before. As a result, more people use a building and more combustibles exist in the building. Without understanding of combustion characteristics and the establishment of a fire safety plan in case of a residential fire, it is expected great loss of lives and properties. In this study, experiments were carried out to promote an understanding of the combustion characteristics of combustibles in the building. Sofa and bed were used as combustibles in the experiment. Heat release rate of the sofa was about 1.9MW. Heat release rate of the bed was approximately 650kW.

  • While damage caused by fire increases, awareness of fire is still low. Morever, Small fires often spread into big fires as they fail to keep the golden time due to the delay in initial response. In particular, the initial response is more important in areas where many unauthorized buildings are called " Panjachon " as firefighting facilities are insufficient compared to other residential facilities. Therefore, we will combine BIM technology, drones and IT convergence technologies to develop a firefighting safety information system that can speed up initial response and help combat fires.

The test results suggest that dynamic heat release rate is highly dependent on the condition of palettes especially if they load appropriate amount of postal envelopes or not.

  • In this study, combustibles investigation and fire growth rate experiment were performed for predicting initial fire behavior in buildings. Combustibles investigation was performed for residential buildings, which is most frequently affected by fire in Korea. Spatial characteristics and combustibles properties were separately investigated, and occupied area and layout characteristics of combustibles were identified to produce general layout models. Of the layout models, room was selected for fire test of a single compartment. From this test, fire propagation for each combustible was identified, which was delayed compared to the summed heat release rate of a single combustible.
