The Practical Application of Modular Construction for Residential Facilities (주거시설로서 모듈러건축 활용화 방안)

  • The purpose of this research is to provide basic data for the promotion strategy to activate modular construction system as residential facilities, through a study on the architectural planning, institutions and policies and research on connection details, for the use as residential facilities of the modular construction that is not actively supplied for the general residential facilities. As a result, I suggest sample model plan of domestic and foreign case analysis and characteristic of modular construction and practical application of modular construction for Residential Facilities. Owing to many advantages including short construction period structural stability and economic benefits, modular construction is expected to play a role as residential alternative of socially controversial affordable housing and weekend homes, and potential housing shortage after reunification; and to contribute to the development of design automation and industrialized constructions. Though Korea is still lacking development of the system that meets the domestic context, if supported by ongoing researches on the development of construction methods, materials and details, the settlement of appropriate modular residential facilities to suit the national situation will serve a possible alternative solution for many housing and environmental problems.

An analysis on the Relative Weights of Residential Environmental Constituents - Comparison of the Dwellers' and Experts' Evaluations - (주거환경 구성요소의 상대적 가중치 분석 - 일반인과 전문가 평가의 비교를 중심으로 -)

  • The evaluation of the quality of residential environment, in the planning process, is very important. If the environmental quality can be measured on the design scheme itself, it would be possible not only to estimate the residential environment, but also to apply the results of measuring in the planning and design of new residential projects. This study aimed at estimating the relative weights of the constituents of a residential environment by AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process). For the detailed analysis of relative weights, the respondent of survey were composed of two different groups-dwellers and experts. The findings are as follows (:) 1) the relative weights of residential constituents were different between the respondent groups; 2) the relative weights of residential constituents were different according to socio-demographic characteristics; and 3) for the practical application of estimation results of the relative weights, the relation between residential performance constituents and physical design elements should be considered.

  • Recently, people's attitude toward residential environment has been changed from a simple shelter to a place affecting their mental function, and the change has increased demand for high quality of residential environment. Nevertheless, a number of unsatisfactory elements that do not meet the demand of residents for residential environment have continuously caused them to be exposed to stress. The purpose of this study is to explore the importance of residential environment by examining stress factors from the residential environment and finding out the effects of the residential environment stress on human emotional intelligence quotient and its application pattern. This study was carried out using not only self-report questionnaires with the Likert 5-point scale to find out the origin of residential environment stress factors, but the emotional intelligence quotient measuring device developed by Wong & Low (2000) to analyse correlations between the residential environment stress and emotional intelligence quotient. The questionnaire survey in this study was carried our among students of D College, and data were analysed using the statistical program SPSS, version 14.0.

A Study on the Design Method of Cold & Hot Water Manifold System for Residential Buildings through the Piping Network Analysis (관망해석을 통한 주거용 건축물의 급수.급탕 헤더시스템 설계 방안에 관한 연구)

  • The aim of this study is to present the design methods about manifold location being installed and size and to draw out the proper piping size as comparing the fluctuation of discharge with manifold size and residence size through the piping network analysis, when using the same faucet in accordance. The findings are summarized as follows, 1) an appropriate header main body pipe diameter was deemed to be $32{\sim}50\;mm$. 2) the research presented design measures for the application of appropriate water supply inlet pipe diameters according to residential buildings with various sizes. 3) the header direct branch piping method is ideal for small and medium-sized residential complexes, and the header branching and semi header methods are deemed to be more favorable for large residential complexes. 4) this study offered design measures for appropriate header system main body pipe diameters, water supply inlet pipe diameters, header system piping methods, application methods for functional auxiliary equipment units, and header system installation spaces and location.

  • The evaluation of the quality of residential environment may be different according to the experts' characteristics. This study aimed at estimating the relative weights of the constituents of a residential environment by AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) through experts' evaluation. The respondent group was composed of 72 experts in the fields of architectural design, housing design, urban design, and urban planning. The findings are as follows(:) 1) the relative weights of residential constituents were different between detailed fields ; 2) the relative weights of residential constituents were not different according to institute in which experts are engaged ; and 3) for the practical application of estimation results of the relative weights, the relation between residential performance constituents and physical design elements should be considered in future.

The Application Tendency of Western Classic Style Appeared to Residencial Space Interior Composition Elements (주거공간 실내구성요소에 나타난 서양 고전양식의 적용경향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the application tendency about the interior elements of the western classical style which appears in Korean residential space. The examined objects were 324 pictures of 99 residential spaces from the different monthly magazines between Sep.1994 to Sep.1999. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The tendency of application according to the kind of space, it has appeared much in Iivingroom, master bedroom and dining room of apartments and houses. As for the single application in residential space, Rococo and Neo-Classic style was shown most, and the cases applied through the mixture of Renaissance style and Nee-classic style appeared most. 2. The tendency of application arroding to the interior elements of space, the wall of Nee-Classic style and the ceiling of Renaissance style, the window and door of Nee-classic style, and the furniture of Rococo style were being applied much.

  • This project located in IFEZ(Incheon Free Economic Zone) is the first central heating and cooling type for high-rise residential building in korea. The design was performed as the joint venture between Cosentini from U.S.A and wooowon, and our design concept was to save energy. LEED application from USGBC is going on in progress for the first residential building in korea. Careful attention was paid from schematic design for not a durability of structural and architectural, but also durability and safety of M.E.P.

  • The legacy Residential Gateway (RG) which constitutes fixed WAN interfaces and LAN interfaces, is at a disadvantage due to difficult modification of a system. In this paper, we propose the flexible module-based RG on the basis of the RG standardization and demonstrate the prototype system, whose function is verified by the home automation application.

  • In this study, small domestic level to examine the development of housing product in terms residential environmental was to determine the spatial plan. Environmental Impact and Allowable Density Using the Rural Residential Density Matrix (주거밀도모형을 이용한 환경영향분석과 수용능력 산출)

  • Analysis of carrying capacity and site suitability by the systematic application of environmental information an provide a basis for implementing environmentally sensitive and sustainable resource development policies. Based on the availability of public services and environmental and site-specific constraints, a Rural Residential Density Matrix was applied in Santa Cruz County, California, USA to assess the development potential of rural land parcels since 1980. In one case, the Matrix was applied to calculate the allowable development density on a site in Lompico planned for use as a Buddhist retreat center. These calculations revealed higher environmental sensitivity and lower carrying capacity than projected in the proposed plan. Under the constraints of the county's minimum acreage policies and insufficient developable land, the developer cancelled the proposed plan. This example suggests that application of the Matrix at the concept development stage would increase the effectiveness of the prior environmental review and environmental impact assessment (EIA) system in Korea.
