집 먼지진드기에 대한 유칼립투스정유의 기피효과 (Repellent effect of Eucalyptus essential oils against house dust mites (Dermatophagoides farinae and D. pteronyssinus))

  • Majority of asthma and atopic dermatitis are known to be spontaneously sensitive to house dust mite allergen. Control of house dust mite populations has been principally achieved by using chemical insecticides. But the risk to human health would be a potential problem. Moreover, house dust mite remain as allergens even after death. So, It is more effective method keeping the house dust mites away than killing them. The use of plant-derived repellents has been considered as a promising alternative to chemical repellents. Eucalyptus is a diverse genus of flowering trees in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae. It has insect repellent properties and is an active ingredient in some commercial mosquito repellents. These studies were carried out to investigate repellent effects of Eucalyptus oil against house dust mites and compare lemongrass oil. Eucalyptus oil and lemongrass oil were exposed at different doses (0.2, 0.1, 0.05, 0.025, 0.0125, $0.00625{\mu}l/cm^2$) and different times (1, 3, 6 hours) on house dust mites. The most effective dose of Eucalyptus and lemongrass oils against house dust mites was $0.1{\mu}l/cm^2$ and $0.025{\mu}l/cm^2$. Each repellent effect(%) in most effective dose was 90.3% (Eucalyptus) and 80.8% (lemongrass).

발수제가 수성페인트의 물리적 성능에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Water-Repellent on the Physical Properties of Water Paint)

  • 본 연구는 외부 표면마감 재료로서 발수제를 직접 혼입한 수성페인트의 내구성능을 분석하여 실제 현장에 적용하기 위한 실용성을 평가하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 일반적 성능 및 발수효과 실험하였으며 도출된 결과를 바탕으로 실제 현장에서 적용하기 위한 하나의 공법으로서의 가능성을 분석하여 다음과 같은 결과를 도출하였다. 열전도성, 통기성, 흡수성 및 부착강도의 성능 실험에서도 수성 페인트에 발수제를 혼합하여 마감재료로 사용하는 것은 적정한 것으로 판단된다. 일반적인 내구성능을 종합적으로 고려해 볼 때 혼합비율은 2, 5, 8% 범위가 안정적인 것으로 판단된다.

  • In this study, we fabricated the superhydrophobic and super-water-repellent surface with the micro/nano scale structures using simple conventional silicon wet-etching technique and the black silicon method by deep reactive ion etching. These fabrication methods are simple but very effective. Also we reported the droplet impact experimental results on the micro/nano-scaled surface. There are two representative impact behaviors as "rebound" and "fragmentation". We found the transition Weber number between "rebound" and "fragmentation" statements, experimentally. Additionally, we concerned about the dimensionless spreading diameters for our super-water-repellent surface. The novel characterization method was introduced for analysis including the "fragmentation" region. As a result, our super-water-repellent surface with the micro/nano-scaled structures shows the different impact behaviors compared with a reference smooth surface, by some meaningful experiments.

  • Damage caused by wild animals such as pheasants and magpies is a problem in rural areas. A bird repellent system based on sensing and repelling farm pest animals and birds is proposed herein. This system is equipped with a bird model part on a supporting platform and comprises a sound source generator, a system control user interface, and a sensor in the center. The sensor is composed of an illuminance sensor and a PIR sensor. The illuminance sensor distinguishes between day and night, whereas the PIR sensor detects birds or wild animals and outputs them from the sound generator. The entire system can be managed easily by the user interface and system control.

Attraction and Repellent Behaviors of Culicoides Biting Midges toward Cow Dung, Carbon Dioxide, and Essential Oils

  • Culicoides biting midges (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) are hematophagous arthropod vectors that transmit epizootic arthropod-borne viruses (arboviruses). Arboviruses are recognized as causes of pregnancy loss, encephalomyelitis, and congenital malformations in ruminants. Therefore, continuous monitoring and control of Culicoides, which causes significant damage to industrial animals are necessary. We performed attraction and repellent tests in Culicoides using various essential oils, cow dung, and carbon dioxide (CO2). Culicoides tended to move more to cow dung (60.8%, P<0.0001) and CO2 (63.8%, P<0.01). To the essential oils as repellents, 26.1% (P<0.0001), 18.7% (P<0.001), and 25.5% (P<0.01) of the Culicoides moved to the lavender, lemongrass, and eucalyptus chamber, respectively. The Culicoides that moved to the 3 essential oils chambers showed markedly low activity. Collectively, it was showed that Culicoides tended to be attractive to cow dung and CO2, and repellent from the 3 essential oils.

내식성 향상을 위한 기능성 타이타늄 표면 개질 (Surface Modification of Functional Titanium Oxide to Improve Corrosion Resistance)

  • Titanium is applied in various industries due to its valuable properties and abundant reserves. Generally, if a highly uniform oxide structure and a high-density oxide film is formed on the surface through anodization treatment, the utility value such as color appearance and corrosion inhibition efficiency is further increased. The objective of this study was to determine improvement of water-repellent property by controlling titanium oxide parameters such as pore size and inter-pore distance to improve corrosion resistance. Oxide film structures of different shapes were prepared by controlling the anodization processing time and voltage. These oxide structures were then analyzed using a Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM). Afterwards, a Self-Assembled Monolayer (SAM) coating was performed for the oxide structure. The contact angle was measured to determine the relationship between the shape of the oxide film and the water-repellency. The smaller the solid fraction of the surface, the higher the water-repellent effect. The surface with excellent hydrophobic properties showed improved corrosion resistance. Such water-repellent surface has various applications. It is not only useful for corrosion prevention, but also useful for self-cleaning. In addition, a hydrophobic titanium may open up a new world of biomaterials to remove bacteria from the surface.

갈색날개매미충(Ricania sp.)에 대한 양강근 유래 Methylcinnamate의 살충 및 기피 효과 (Insecticidal Activity and Repellent Effects of Methylcinnamate Separated from Alpinia galangal on Ricania sp.)

  • Ricania sp. is a pest to many crops in Korea. This pest prefers fruit crops especially, blueberry and apple trees. We tested the possibility of Ricania sp. control using of methylcinnamate. In the laboratory bioassay, the mortality of methylcinnamate against Ricania sp. adult with 100 and 250 time diluted solution was 36.6% and 13.3% respectively. While repellent that the use of methylcinnamate resulted rate of 43.3% with 100 time diluted solution and 40.0% in 250 time diluted solution. Insecticidal and repellent effect in semifield bioassay were higher than those in laboratory bioassay. From this result, methylcinnamate might have synergic effect for Ricania sp. management. The result of this study showed a possibility of Ricania. sp. control using methylcinnamate.

아크릴 공중합체형 발수제로 처리된 P/C 혼방직물의 물성연구 (The Properties of P/C Blended Fabrics Treated with the Water Repellent of Acrylic Copolymer and Additives)

  • In the preparation of acrylic water repellent(EDLWC). quaternized 2-diethylarrunoethylmethacrylate-stearylmethacrylate copolymer (DSACC) and quaternized 1-Iaurovlbis(aminoethyl)-2-dodecylimidazoline(LDDIC) were selected as a basic resin and the improving agent such as softening effect and hydrostatic pressure of the water repellent. EDLWC was prepared by blending waxes and emulsifier for waxes with various ratio to DSACC and LDDIC. As the results of the measurement of water repellency, washable, tear strength and crease recovery to polyester-cotton(P/C) blended fabrics treated with EDLWC only or addition of textile finishing resin, the physical properties were increased. Sodium acetate was the most effective catalyst in the water repellency among the various kinds of catalyst. and the reasonable concentration of the catalyst was 1. 4 wt%. EDLWC was confirmed as durable water repellent with the results of making little difference of water repellency as ${\pm}5$ point after and before washing. The reaction mechanism between P/C blended fabrics and EDLWC in the presence of catalyst was proposed. And also, the longitudinal view of the P/C blended fabrics treated with water repellent was observed with scanning electron microscope.

누에의 족촉진제 개발이용에 관한 연구 (A Study on Utility of Raw Materials for Accelerating the Silkworm Mounting.)

  • 본실험은 상족기에 집중적으로 소요되는 노동력을 절감하기 위하여 숙잠의 자연등족을 촉진시키는 보조수단의 1종인 기피제에 대해서 연구하였는바 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 기피효과가 가장 현저한 것은 참나무계통이며 약쑥 개여뀌의 순으로 나타났다. 그 이외의 처리구도 기성등족제 シ ル ク ア ツ プ 처리구보다 등광률이 높은 것으로 미루어 보아 실용화가 기대된다. 2. 기선제의 조제방법은 증류액, 탕액 및 즙액의 형태로 조제하여 조강에 흡수시켜 시용하는 것이 등족효과가 우수하였다. 이 중에서도 가장 손쉬운 방법은 탕액이 라고 생각된다. 3. 기피제처리가 누에 생리에는 거의 영향이 없는듯하며 견질과 사질에도 별로 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 보인다. 4. 본기피제를 잠좌에 처리했을 때 미숙잠도 등족하는 경향이 있으므로 기피제를 이용할 때는 숙화정도를 재일하게 해야만 더욱 효과적일 것으로 살펴진다.

발수가공 시 전자빔 조사가 화학재생 폴리에스터 직물의 발수효과와 내세탁성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of E-beam Irradiation on the Water-repellency and Washing Durability of the Water-repellent Finished Chemically-recycled PET(CR-PET) Fabrics)

  • The effects of e-beam irradiation on water-repellency and washing durability of water-repellent finished chemically-recycled PET(CR-PET) fabrics were investigated. As results, more doses of e-beam irradiation damaged the fabric surface more severely. It was thought because the high densed energy was formed, where the more e-beam was converged. The contact angle measurement showed that as the dose of e-beam irradiation increased, water wettability of the CR-PET fabric increased slightly. It was thought to be due that the surface etching by e-beam irradiation let water droplet permeate into the fabric surface better. The concentration of the water-repellent finishing agent was more important factor than curing temperature as finishing parameter. It was considered because the water-repellent finishing agent used in this study got to cure sufficiently at low temperature. Consequently, e-beam irradiation improved the washing durability of water-repellent finishing on the CR-PET fabrics.
