  • In this paper, we consider a renewal process in which both the inter-arrival times and rewards are fuzzy random variables. We prove the uniform levelwise convergence of fuzzy renewal and fuzzy renewal rewards. These results improve the result of Popova and Wu[European J. Oper. Research 117(1999), 606-617] and the main result of Hwang [Fuzzy Sets and Systems 116 (2000), 237-244].

  • The renewal of digital map takes much time and the manual process. LiDAR data allows reduction of time, automatic manner, and acquisition of the precise position. So it is used to renew the digital map of 1:5,000 scale. From the accuracy test results using aerial imagery and digitizing, renewal of digital map are feasible in automatic manner to some extent.

  • Based on moments inequalities new testing procedures are derived for testing exponentiality against new renewal better than used (NRBU) and renewal new better than used (RNBU). These classes play an important role in formulating repair or replacement policies. The asymptotic Pitman efficiency of (NRBU) and (RNBU) testes are studied. Selected critical values are tabulated for sample sizes n=5(1) 50. The power estimates for some commonly used life distributions in reliability are also calculated. Some set of real data is used as an example to elucidate the use of the proposed test statistic for practical reliability analysis. The problem in case of right-censored data is also handled.

  • An inventory with constant demand is studied. We adopt a renewal argument to obtain the transient and stationary distribution of the level of the inventory. We show that the stationary distribution can be also derived by making use of either the level crossing technique or the renewal reward theorem. After assigning several managing costs to the inventory, we calculate the long-run average cost per unit time. A numerical example is illustrated to show how we optimize the inventory.

  • In recently, Popova and Wu(1999) proved a theorem which presents the long-run average fuzzy reward per unit time. In this note, we improve this result. Indeed we will show uniform convergence of a renewal reward processes with respect to the level ${\alpha}$ modeled as a fuzzy random variables.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop reliability analysis procedures for repairable systems with interval failure time data and apply the procedures for assessing the storage reliability of a subsystem of a certain type of guided missile. In the procedures, the interval failure time data are converted to pseudo failure times using the uniform random generation method, mid-point method or equispaced intervals method. Then, such analytic trend tests as Laplace, Lewis-Robinson, Pair-wise Comparison Nonparametric tests are used to determine whether the failure process follows a renewal or non-renewal process. Monte Carlo simulation experiments are conducted to compare the three conversion methods in terms of the statistical performance for each trend test when the underlying process is homogeneous Poisson, renewal, or non-homogeneous Poisson. The simulation results show that the uniform random generation method is best among the three. These results are applied to actual field data collected for a subsystem of a certain type of guided missile to identify its failure process and to estimate its mean time to failure and annual mean repair cost.

  • The purpose of this paper is to report the process of curriculum renewal of an intensive English program with focus on the perceptions of the people involved. The researcher tries to describe the five years of curriculum change. The data collected through surveys, interviews, and observations were analyzed. The findings show that throughout the years, the students that participated in the program perceived that their English skills have improved. The teachers also thought that the student's overall English skills improved. The satisfaction on the chosen textbooks was higher in the student group than the teacher group. The main goal and objectives of the intensive English program in the study changed in the process of curriculum renewal. The program that launched in order to enhance students' conversational skills in 2004 started to include TOEIC instruction in late 2005 due to students' needs. The students were content with the fact that there were many teachers in the program whereas teachers had neutral opinion. The present study aims to suggest the importance of curriculum renewal through program evaluation which can be applied to similar language programs for the continuity and longevity of the programs.

  • Geo-special technologies are being adopted in variety fields since the 3rd NGIS plan that was started at 1996. However, the required system or structure to guarantee the up-to-date validity and accuracy of the geospatial data - the most fundamental elements of the technology - was not constructed yet. All the activities related to geospatial data, including topographical map and numerical base map, are all implemented in separate way; from change of geographical objects and features, data gathering, and database construction to distribution, transfer and sharing of these data. The data model that links all the activities are required that enables consistent data-flow and effective and systematic work-flow. In this study, economic data renewal and exchange method was proposed, and benefit-cost analysis was implemented by comparing the conventional work-flow to newly proposed work-flow. The case study was implemented using the model that was adopted in Daegu metropolitan city, and the model was developed by reflecting these results.

  • The purpose of this study is to find methods for logo renewal design according to the brand life cycle, considering the logo as an important visual tool that represents the brand identity in terms of brand management. This study was conducted through literature study on brand life cycle and brand renewal strategy, an expert survey on logo renewal design, and logo analysis of 35 food and beverage brands with statistical data to determine brand life cycle. The results of the study are three. First, the four stages(introduction, growth, maturity, and decline) of brand life cycle characteristics and renewal strategies were derived. Second, four brand renewal strategies(partial change, total change, repositioning, new image creation) and methods for logo renewal design were proposed based on the life cycle of the brand. Based on this, renewal characteristics for each life cycle were proposed. Third, visual elements of identity that are important depending on the brand life cycle and brand renewal strategy were found. It was found that the addition and subtraction of graphic elements and change of color tone are important in the partial change strategy of the growth period and maturity period, and that the change of signature color is important in the repositioning strategy and the creation of the new image.

  • The market size of Internet portals has been continuously expanded and also competition has been fierce. For the business success of Internet portals, it is necessary to repeatedly perform a renewal project which improves their services, reflecting more improved or changed strategies. Accordingly, this paper proposes an analysis methodology for performing the renewal project more systematically and effectively. The methodology consists of four phases : establishing improved strategies, analyzing customers, deriving service alternatives, and determining services. The methodology places an emphasis on reflecting effectively customers' standpoints (i.e. customers' needs) and service providers' standpoints (i.e. business strategy) upon service improvement. Furthermore, the methodology includes a specific technique for analyzing the feasibility of services. To demonstrate the practical usefulness of the methodology, a real-life case is illustrated.
