  • A design and analysis program is proposed for switched reluctance motor using an analytical method and a CAD program LabVIEW. The algorithm uses conventional permeance method, in which flux linkages, inductances and torques are calculated numerically. In order to analyze a dynamic characteristics of the motor, voltage control scheme is fallen and a single pulse operation is applied. 2 SRM models are analyzed under the given specifications and constraints. The results compared with measured data.

  • The pole shape. turn-on angle. and turn-off angle are important design factors that largely influence Switched Reluctance Motor' s performance when designing a switched reluctance motor. These design factors must be considered simultaneously because an independent factor restricts the improvement of the switched reluctance motor' s performance. After performing the analysis using nonlinear same characteristic finite element method that contains a operating circuit, the influence upon the torque characteristics was analyzed by the pole shape and the angles. This paper presents the most suitable design value according to input conditions and various speeds. Especially.the most suitable angles were derived from the voltage equation. and an effective design range is showed from the angles.

  • Switched Reluctance Motors have an inexpensive, intrinsic simplicity and low cost that makes them well suited to home appliance and office applications. However the motor suffering with necessity of shaft position sensor, lead to non-linearity of operations. Further, the involvement of static converters deteriorates the operational power factor. Implementation of a sensorless algorithm, can remove the need of position sensors. Also, the drive includes a compact power factor control in the input stage by implementing Zero Current Switching Quasi-Resonant Boost Technology. This paper presented, aims at optimized low line current distortion, high power factor, low cost and a shaft position sensorless Switched Reluctance Motor drive.

  • In this study, the electromagnetic characteristics of a flat-type two-dimensional proportional solenoid were analyzed by the magnetic reluctance method. The equivalent magnetic circuit equation for the solenoid was derived by modeling the reluctance of air gaps and magnetic structural components such as pole core, armature and yoke. It was solved iteratively because of the nonlinear magnetization properties of the iron parts. The solutions showed good agreement with experimental data. Based on the equivalent magnetic circuit equation, the influence of design parameters on the force-to-armature displacement curves was mathematically derived and experimentally verified. In this way, dominant design parameters could be analytically determined.

  • In this paper, the classical Lyapunov synthesis method for designing controllers is extended to fuzzy logic. This control technique is then applied to the design of a novel tracking controller for reluctance motor drives. The main features of the method are small rule base, simplicity of construction, and low cost. The proposed controller has been simulated for a model case. In addition, its dynamic performances have been shown to be satisfactory. Capabilities of the proposed technique in controlling the highly nonlinear systems of reluctance motors with much simplicity are also verified.

  • RM(Switched Reluctance Motor)'s Torque is generated by phase-current and inductance profile. A new analytical concept is proposed to determine the turn-off angle for maximization of the torque output. This paper describes a new method to maximization the average torque of a current control Switched Reluctance Motor. It is based on the simplified turn-off angle equation using least square method. Simulations carried out on a three-phase 6/4 pole SRM justify the algorithm is described. The suggested maximization average torque is verified by simulation in this paper.

  • A novel passive boost power converter forsingle-phaseswitched reluctance motor is presented. A simple passive circuit is proposed comprisingthree diodes and one capacitor. The passive circuitis added in the front-end of a conventional asymmetric converter to obtain high negative bias. Based on this passive network, the terminal voltage of the converter side is a general DC-link voltage level in parallel mode up to a double DC-link voltage level in series mode. Thus,it can suppress the negative torque generation from the tail current and improve the output power. The results of the comparative simulation and experiments forthe conventional and proposed converter verify the performance of the proposed converter.

  • The simple motor construction and low cost, fault tolerant power electronic drive has made the switched reluctance drive a strong contender for many applications. But the switched reluctance drive does exhibit higher levels of vibration and acoustic noise than that of most competing drives. The main source of vibration in the switched reluctance drive is generated by rapid change of radial force when phase current is extinguished during commutation action. In this paper, a hybrid excitation method is proposed to reduce vibration and acoustic noise of the switched reluctance drive. The hybrid excitation has 2-phase excitation by long dwell angle as well as conventional 1-phase excitation. The vibration and acoustic noise are reduced because the scheme reduces abrupt change of excitation level by distributed and balanced excitation.

  • The paper presents the design of a segmented type synchronous reluctance motor(SynRM) to increase its torque and power factor. The main feature of a segmented type synchronous reluctance motor is the flux barrier. Thus, the design process to find optimum value of various geometric parameters including flux barrier will be explained. Optimum value of each parameter is found where the d, q inductance difference and saliency ratio are maximized because these inductance characteristics are related to torque and power factor. Finite Element Analysis will be used to simulate motor characteristics. Analysis results of redesigned SynRM show higher saliency ratio over 10 and improved value of maximum power factor.
