Determining of an Optimal Spares Stocking Policy with Reliability Improvement

  • We present in this paper an optimal stocking policy for a repairable inventory system under reliability improvement. For this purpose we illustrate commercial flight lines with a large number of planes. This model is supported by a central repair facility. For modeling the nonstationary M/M/s system we implemented SIMAN for computing the time dependent number of units in the repair facility with any number of units. In this model we provide the required inventory level at each location. 1y month. for various levels of associated stock-out risk.

  • Reliability growth is defined as the positive improvement in a reliability parameter over a period of time due to implementation of corrective actions to system design, operation or maintenance procedures, or the associated manufacturing process. In recent, the importance of reliability growth management has emerged in the military authority and industries. For effective application of reliability growth models, it is necessary to understand their characteristics and differences. This paper presents the concepts of reliability growth management and compares the features of reliability tracking and projection models centered on MIL-HDBK-189C for selecting the appropriate model for an one-shot system under development.

  • In this paper we proposed a modified reliability function for improving bimodal speaker identification(BSI) performance. The convectional reliability function, used by N. Fox[1], is extended by introducing an optimization factor. We evaluated the proposed method in BSI domain. A BSI system was implemented based on GMM and it was tested using VidTIMIT database. Through speaker identification experiments we verified the usefulness of our proposed method. The experiments showed the improved performance, i.e., the reduction of error rate by 39%.

  • A practical algorithm of generating most probable states in decreasing order of probability, given the probability of each unit\`s state, is suggested for approximating reliability(performability) evaluation of a network with multistate(multimode) units. Method of approximating network reliability for a given measure with most probable states is illustrated with a numerical example. The proposed method in this paper is compared with the previous method regarding memory requirement. Our method has some advantages for computation and achieves improvement with regard to memory requirement for a certain condition judging from the computation experiment.

  • High quality power supplying of power distribution system in electric railway system is the important function. Power feeding system is complicated witch is compose with distribution line, circuit break, protection facilities and so on. Among this components, role of substation is most important for elevation of reliability in electric power system. Therefore, the enhanced reliability considering the preventive inspection, repair work, replacement is necessary.   • An important aspects of power system design involves consideration of service reliability requirements of load to be supplied and service reliability provided by any proposed system. This paper shows the investigation of the 1984 KEPCO service reliability to the large electric consumer whose contracted maximum demand is over 500 kw. 68 customers of the total 111 investigated are located in Myungdong area and Yuido in Seoul. Of the customers are included hotel Lotte, Giobo and Seoul national University Hospital. The average service reliability of Myungdong area customers is 316min/yr/customer and about 7 times/yr/customer, and 160 min, 6 times for Yuido. Which the service reliability the interruption and the interruption frequency which caused by the customers receiving facilities were showed. The investigation is telling that the service reliability of the underground distribution area are very superior to the other area reliability. The investigated reliability seem not appropriate to be improved by change of distribution System as well as equipments and facilities improvement in the near future.

  • In this paper, as the first step to assess and enhance the reliability of Korea High Speed Train, auxiliary power system is selected and reliability analysis is carried out. The auxiliary power system is classified into subsystems and functional analysis is conducted. Reliability block diagrams are drawn and reliability parametric analysis is performed. Analysis results show that the reliability of auxiliary power system depends on critical items. To grow the system reliability, activities should be concentrated on improvement of critical items.

  • We carry out reliability tests and investigate the failure mechanisms. of the wafer level vacuum packaged MEMS gyroscope sensor using an accelerated degradation test. The accelerated degradation test (ADT) is used to evaluate reliability (and/or life) of the MEMS vacuum package and to select the accelerated test conditions, which reduce the reliability testing time. Using the failure distribution model and stress-life model, we are able to estimate the average life time of the vacuum package, which is well agreed with the measured data. After improving several package reliability issues such as prevention of gas diffusion through package, we carry out another set of accelerated tests at the chosen acceleration level. The results show that reliability of the vacuum packaged gyroscope has been greatly improved and can survive without degradation of performance, which is the Q-factor in gyroscope sensor, during environmental stress reliability tests.

  • The objective of this paper is to evaluate the reliability of a volute pump and presents test results through performance and life tests. The performance and life test methods were presented by analyzing the failure modes of the volute pump. Zero failure test time was calculated to evaluate the reliability of the volute pump and then, the test was performed under accelerated conditions. The test was also carried out to check the failure modes of the field conditions. This study can be provided to improve the product reliability through failure analysis of the volute pump. And failure cause of typical failure case has been investigated and improvement design has been presented. The performance test results of before and after the accelerated life test were presented to confirm the improved reliability of the volute pump.
