  • Good diagnostics improves both the safety and system unavailability of digital safety systems. The measure of a diagnostic capability is called the Coverage Factor. Because the Failure Modes, Effects and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA) provides information on the failure rates and failure mode distributions necessary to calculate a diagnostic coverage factor for a component, the FMEDA can be used as a useful tool to calculate it. Through performing FMEDA on a digital signal processor (DSP) board used in a digital safety system, it is shown that some components of the DSP board can be replaced or improved to satisfy the required diagnostic coverage. That is, the FMEDA can serve as a useful verification tool to design a diagnostic capability for the DSP board.

  • Background: The purposes of this study were to: 1) investigate the relation between thoracic kyphosis, postural stiffness and thoracic rotation and 2) the intra-rater reliability of the measurement methods for thoracic kyphosis and rotation angle. Methods: Thirty-nine young adults (13 males, 26 females) participated in the study. Thoracic kyphosis was measured using a Flexicurve while standing in their usual relaxed posture and then in their maximally erector posture. Index of kyphosis (IK) measures taken in the relaxed and maximally erect positions were used to estimate postural stiffness. Thoracic rotation range of motion (ROM) was measured using universal goniometer and inclinometer in two positions. The association between the magnitude of the IK and thoracic stiffness and thoracic rotation ROM was also examined. Reliability was determined using intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC). Results: When measured from the mean relaxed IK (${\pm}SD$) was 7.42 (${\pm}1.47$) and mean erect IK was 4.92 (${\pm}1.63$) and mean IK ratio was 1.66 (${\pm}.65$). The relaxed IK was significantly correlated with the range of motion thoracic rotation in two positions (r=.503~580, p<.01). Conclusion: Thoracic kyphosis in relaxed position was associated with the range of motion thoracic rotation. Thoracic kyphosis measurement with the Flexicurve and range of motion 2 techniques of thoracic rotation showed good reliablity and may be a useful measurement tool in clinical practice.

  • To investigate the intra-rater absolute reliabilities and validity of the Figure of-Eight Walk test (F8WT) in patients with chronic stroke. A total of 36 subjects with chronic stroke participated in this study. The inter-rater reliability of F8WT was calculated using intra-class correlation coefficients($ICC_{2,1}$). Moreover, we used the standard error measurement (SEM) and the small real difference (SRD) to examine the absolute reliability indices. The validity was demonstrated by a spearman correlation of F8WT with Postural Assessment Scale for Storke(PASS) and Trunk Impairment Scale(TIS). The inter-rater reliability of F8WT was excellent; ICC2,1=0.95(0.91~0.97), acceptable SEM=1.02, and SRD=2.82. F8WT were also found to be significantly associated with PASS(r=-0.82) and TIS(r=-0.85). Therefore, F8WT is a reliable measurement tool and is correlated well with stroke-impairments, such as postural and trunk control. F8WT will be a useful tool in evaluating the walking performance of subjects with chronic stroke.

  • Printed electronics devices are made of several sets of printed patterns. The quality or printability of the printed patterns determines the electrical performance of such devices. Moreover, control of the printability determines the reliability of such devices. Despite its importance, few studies have been reported for the measurement of the printed patterns to evaluate their printability. In this study, a measurement method is proposed for printed patterns, including the definition of the properties to be measured, and the related software is described. The proposed method measures the width, pinholes, and edge waviness and evaluates the printability of the patterns quantitatively. The proposed measurement method could be an efficient tool to evaluate and enhance the printability of printed patterns in printed electronics.
