  • In this study, the equation of motion of impacting elastic structures was derived through the theory, and the shape control of impact force using correlations of the dynamic characteristics and impact force history between two elastic structures was accomplished. Through numerical analysis and experiments, the classical contact mechanisms were verified, and the effects of the relative motion between impactor and elastic structure on the impact force shape were studied, and then the shape change of impact force depending on the impact position and mode shape of cantilever beam were analyzed. The 2-DOF impactor was designed and used. Reconstruction characteristics of impact force in cantilever beam were reviewed .

  • The stability of machine tool systems is analyzed by considering the machining process as a stochastic process without decomposing into machine tool structural dynamics and cutting processes. In doing so the time series analysis technique developed by Wu and Pandit is applied systematically to the relative vibration between cutting tool and work- piece measured under actual working conditions. Various characteristic properties derived from the fitted ARMA(Autoregressive Moving Average) Models and those from raw data directly are investigated in relation with the system stability. Both damping ratio and absolute value of the characteristic roots of the AR part of the most significant dynamic mode are preferred as stability indicating factors to the other pro-perties such as theoretical variance .gamma. (o) or absolute power of the most dominant dynamic mode. Maximum aplitude during a certain interval and variance estimated from raw data are shown to be very sensi- tive to the type of the signal and the location of measurement point although they can be obtained rather easily. The relative vibration signal is also analyzed by FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) Analyzer for the purpose of comparison with the spectrums derived from the fitted ARMA models.

  • In the machining process, variation in cutting forces results in relative displacements between the tool and the workpiece leading to tool vibration. Also there is a demand to change the depth of cut very frequently. One solution for the both cases is to develop a system which has the ability to reposition a cutting tool to a very small level, i.e., micron. This paper presents the development of a micropositioner using a magnetostrictive material. The developed micropositioner is implemented to a lathe and subjected to various tests. The results show that the micropositioner with a magnetostrictive actuator has good potential for machining application.

  • This paper presents the reverse design of a cam mechanism using NURBS(Nonuniform Rational B-spline curve). Cam is very difficult to make the accurate shape on the design and the manufacture. Because the cam shape is commonly made in order to move in special functions. The reverse design can be used to check accuracy between the designed data and the manufactured data of the cam shape and also reproduce the cam without the design data. The reverse design procedures consist of motion analysis and curve fitting. The motion analysis is used the central difference method and the relative velocity method to find the displacement and velocity. The curve fitting is used NURBS to develope the whole curve. The central difference method is derived in the 3 dimensional space.

  • Modem technology depends on the reliability of extremely high precision equipments. In the production of semiconductor wafer, optical and electron microscopes, ion-beam, laser device must maintain their alignments within a sub-micrometer. This equipment requires a vibration free environment to provide its proper function. Therefore, this high technology equipments require very strict environmental vibration criteria because it is used as basic data for the design of building structure and structural dynamics of equipment. In this paper, the new approach is proposed to investigate the mismatch problem of time and frequency domain for vibration criteria of sensitive equipment. The proposed approach is based on a vibration measurement data and a relative transfer function which can be obtained by experiment or analysis.

  • A machining system that generates accurate relative motions between the tool and workpiece is required to realize ultra precise machining or measurements. Accuracy improvements for each element of the machine are also required. This paper proposes a machining system that uses a compensation device for the six-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) motion error between the tool and workpiece. The compensation device eliminates elastic and thermal errors of the joints and links due to temperature fluctuations and external forces. A hexapod parallel kinematics mechanism installed between the tool spindle and surface plate is passively actuated by a conventional machine. Then the parallel mechanism measures the 6-DOF motions. We describe the conception and fundamentals of the system and test a passively extensible strut with a compensation device for the joint errors.

  • There are technical requirements to manufacture large size functional parts with not only simple geometries like a flat or spherical surface but also sculptured geometries. In addition, the required machining accuracy for these parts is becoming more severe. In general, the form accuracy of machined parts is determined by the relative position between workpiece and tool during machining process. To improve machining accuracy the relative position errors should be maintained within the required accuracy. This study deals with the estimation and calibration of depth of cut using the AE signal in micro-machining. Also, this sensing technique can be applied to detect the initial contact between workpiece and tool.

  • This paper describes the design of a 6-component force/moment calibration machine with having the maximum capacities of 500 N in forces and 50 Nm in moments. To be used for the characteristic of a multi-component load cell. this machine consists of a body, a fixture, a force generating system, a moment generating system and weights. We have also evaluated the accuracy of the calibration machine. Test results show that the expanded relative uncertainty for force components $\pmFx,\;\pmFy\;and\;moment\;components\;\pmMx,\;\pmMy\;are\;less\; than\;8.6\times10^{-4}$, and force components +Fz, -Fz and moment components $\pmMz\;is\;less\;than\;1.6\times10^{-3},\;2.0\times10^{-5},\;1.7\times10^{-3}$ respectively.

  • The Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) positioning has been widely used in geodesy, surveying, and navigation fields. RTK can benefit enormously from the integration of multi-GNSS. In this study, we develop a GPS/BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) RTK integration algorithm for long baselines ranging from 128 km to 335 km in South Korea. The positioning performance with GPS/BDS RTK, GPS-only RTK, and BDS-only RTK is compared in terms of the positioning accuracy. An improvement of positioning accuracy over long baselines can be found with GPS/BDS RTK compared with that of GPS-only RTK and that of BDS-only RTK. The positioning accuracy of GPS/BDS RTK is better than 2 cm in the horizontal direction and better than 5 cm in the vertical direction. A lower Relative Dilution of Precision (RDOP) value with GPS/BDS integration can obtain a better positional precision for long baseline RTK positioning.

  • Degradation of image caused by relative motion between the object and the imaging system (like a camera with its platform) is detrimental to precision photogrammetry. Principal modes of relative motion are identified. The discussion is, however, concentrated on the systematic motions, translatory and rotatory. Various analogical approaches of compensating for the image motion are cited. An analytical-computational approach is presented. This one considers the relationship of transformation bet ween the image and the object, known as the collinearity condition. The standard forms of collinearity condition equations are presented. Augmentation of these equations with regard to both translatory and rotatory motions are expounded. With ever increasing use of high speed computers (as well as analytical plotters in the realm of photogrammetry), this approach seems to be more costeffective and seems to yield better precision in the long run than other approaches that concentrate on analogical corrections to the image itself.
