  • In this paper, the method to calculate chromaticity coordinate from spectral power distribution of LED is presented. Also, inverse tri-stimulus algorithm to find mixed luminance of red, green, blue LED from targeted luminance and chromaticity coordinate is proposed. Besides, digital light color control system of LED lamp applied this algorithm has been developed. In experiments, each chromaticity coordinate of red, green, blue LED calculated from this algorithm has relative percentage error of few % to measured values. Digital code is drawn from inverse tri-stimulus algorithm, and measured values of luminance and chromaticity coordinate of LED lamp digitally controlled by this code also have relative percentage error within a few % to targeted luminance and chromaticity coordinate.

  • This paper presents the feature extraction of fault current related to the multi-shot reclosing scheme in the power distribution system. Fourier transform is used to extract the feature of the fault current waveform in the case of the temporary fault and the permanent fault. After the waveform is analyzed using Fourier transform, the magnitude spectrum and the relative variation of THD are calculated. These results are that the relative variation of THD is great in the temporary fault and is little in the permanent fault.

  • This paper presents the feature extraction of fault currents related to the multi-shot reclosing scheme in the power distribution system. In order to get the fault current waveform, we have measured the fault currents by the fault recorders which have been installed at the secondary side of 154/22.9[kV] substation transformer. These waveforms are classified into temporary and permanent fault. For the classified waveforms, Fourier transform is used to extract the feature of the fault current waveforms. After the waveforms are analyzed by using Fourier transform, the magnitude spectrum and the relative variation of THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) are calculated. And then the relative variation of THD is great in the temporary faults, and is small in the permanent faults.

  • The dimensional accuracy and consistency of a dual oil circuit centrifugal fuel nozzle are important for fuel distribution and combustion efficiency in an engine combustion chamber. A point cloud measurement method was proposed to solve the geometric accuracy detection problem for the fuel nozzle. An improved variance focus measure operator was used to extract the depth point cloud. Compared with other traditional sharpness evaluation functions, the improved operator can generate the best evaluation curve, and has the least noise and the shortest calculation time. The experimental results of point cloud slicing measurement show that the best window size is 24 × 24 pixels. In the height measurement experiment of the standard sample block, the relative error is 2.32%, and in the fuel nozzle cone angle measurement experiment, the relative error is 2.46%, which can meet the high precision requirements of a dual oil circuit centrifugal fuel nozzle.

  • Three-dimensional numerical simulation using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was carried out in order to investigate the formation and dispersion of the plume discharged from the stack of a thermal power station. The simulation was based on the standard ${\kappa}{\sim}{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and a finite-volume method. Warm and moist exhaust from a power plant stack forms a visible plume as entering the cold ambient air. In the simulation, moisture content, emission velocity and temperature of the flue gas, air temperature and wind speed were dealt with the main parameters to analyze the properties of the plume composed mainly of water vapor. As a result of the simulation, the plume could be more apparent in cold winter due to a big difference of latent heat capacity. At no wind condition, the white plume rises 120 m upward from the top of the stack, and expands to 40 m around from the stack in cold winter after flue gas heat recovery. The influencing distance of relative humidity will be about 100 m to 400 m downstream from the stack with a cross wind effect. The decrease of flue gas temperature by heat recovery of thermal energy facilitates the formation of the plume and restrains its dispersion. Wind speed with vertical distribution affects the plume dispersion as well as the density.

  • To estimate the cooling load for the following day, outdoor temperature and humidity are needed in hourly base. But the meteorological administration forecasts only maximum and minimum temperature. New methodology is proposed for predicting hourly outdoor temperature and humidity by using the forecasted maximum and minimum temperature. The correlations for normalized outdoor temperature and specific humidity has been derived from the weather data for five years from 2001 to 2005 at Seoul, Daejeon and Pusan. The correlations for normalized temperature are independent of date, while the correlations for specific humidity are linearly dependent on date. The predicted results show fairly good agreement with the measured data. The prediction program is also developed for hourly outdoor dry bulb temperature, specific humidity, dew point, relative humidity, enthalpy and specific volume.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the tail behavior of the life distribution which exhibits an increasing failure rate or other positive aging effects after a certain time point. Methods: We characterize the tail behavior of the life distribution with regard to certain reliability measures such as failure rate, mean residual life and reliability function and derive several stochastic properties regarding such life distributions. Also, utilizing an L-statistic and its asymptotic normality, we propose new nonparametric testing procedures which verify if the life distribution has an increasing tail failure rate. Results: We propose the IFR-Tail (Increasing Failure Rate in Tail), DMRL-Tail (Decreasing Mean Residual Life in Tail) and NBU-Tail (New Better than Used in Tail) classes, all of which represent the tail behavior of the life distribution. And we discuss some stochastic properties of these proposed classes. Also, we develop a new nonparametric test procedure for detecting the IFR-Tail class and discuss its relative efficiency to explore the power of the test. Conclusion: The results of our research could be utilized in the study of wide range of applications including the maintenance and warranty policy of the second-hand system.

  • This study focused on predicting the fatigue life of an insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) power module for electric locomotives. The effects of different wiring technologies, including aluminum wires, copper wires, aluminum ribbons, and copper ribbons, on solder fatigue life were investigated to meet the high power requirement of the IGBT module. The module's temperature distribution and solder fatigue behavior were investigated through coupled electro-thermo-mechanical analysis based on the finite element method. The ribbons attained a chip junction temperature that was 30℃ lower than that attained with conventional round wires. The ribbons also exhibited a lower plastic strain in comparison with the wires. However, the difference in plastic strain and junction temperature among the different ribbon materials was relatively small. The ribbons also exhibited different crack propagation behaviors relative to the wires. For the wires, the cracks initiated at the outmost edge of the solder, whereas for the ribbons, the cracks grew in the solder layer beneath the ribbons. Comparison of fatigue failure areas indicated that ribbon bonding technology could substantially enhance the fatigue life of IGBT modules and be a potential candidate for high power modules.

  • The suspension arrangement of insulators provides flexibility and assists in power transmission in transmission lines. The performance of the insulator string is strongly influenced by the environmental conditions to which it is exposed, its shape and the inherent material properties of suspension-type insulators. The suspension-type insulators are mostly made from glass, porcelain and ceramic material due to their high resistivity. Irregularity in charge distribution throughout the porcelain insulator may lead to accelerated aging and electrical breakdown. A very high and steep lightning impulse voltage may also cause breakdown of suspension-type insulators. We investigated various material characteristics such as alumina addition, surface morphology, x-ray diffraction pattern and relative density of suspension porcelain insulators manufactured in 1989 (36,000 lbs.), 1995 (36,000 lbs.) and 2001 (36,000 lbs.) by the KRI Company for use in 154 kV high power transmission lines. We compared the material characteristics of these porcelain insulators with that of the top-of-the-line porcelain insulators (36,000 lbs.) manufactured by the NGK Company in 2000. These suspension-type porcelain insulators were exposed to arc and flashover tests to examine their electrical and mechanical strength. It was noted that alumina addition (17 wt.%) for K-2001 was one of the major contributors to the enhancement of the performance of the porcelain insulators and to their ability to withstand very high current generation during the arc test. The porcelain insulators manufactured during 2001 also showed the highest relative density of 95.8% as compared to the other insulators manufactured in 1989 and 1995 respectively 94.2% and 91.5%. We also discuss reports of various failure modes of suspension-type porcelain insulators.

  • The conventional tracking testing as IEC-60587 is widely used in surface aging measurement of outdoor insulator because those testing can carry out very short time in Lab-testing. Also IEC-60587 testing is able to offer the standard judgement of relative degradation level of outdoor HV machine/system. Therefore it is very useful method compare to previous conventional tracking testing method and effective Lab-testing method. But surface discharges(SD) have very complex characteristics of discharge pattern so it is required estimation research to development of precise analysis method. In recent, the study of IRR-camera is carrying out discover of temperature of power equipment through condition diagnosis and system development of degradation diagnosis. In this study, SD occurred from procelain insulator, used 22.9[KV] distribution, is measured with partial temperature distribution in real time, the degradation grade of SD is analyzed through produced patterns in SD concentration according to applied time.
