  • In countries and regions population plays an important role. Recently the importance of population migration increased as population growth slowed. Researches on population migration are mainly focused on the analysis of the population movement factors and the regional structure analysis using the network analysis method. Analysis of regional structure through population movement is not enough to explain the phenomenon of migration of small cities and rural regions. In this study, to overcome the limit of previous studies the characteristics of the population movement rate according to the size of the population were analyzed. Also network analysis using the population movement OD (Origin and Destination) and population movement rate OD were conducted and the results of them were compared. As the results of analysis by the regional population scale, the population movement by population size showed a big difference in the areas with more than 100 thousand people and less than 100 thousand people. Migration to the outside of the province was the most frequent in regions with 30,000~50,000 people. The population migration rate network analysis result showed that the new area with large population inflow capacity was identified, which could not be found in the population movement network analysis because population movement number is small. The population movement rate irate is expected to be used to identify the central regions of the province and to analyze the difference in resident attractiveness.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the role of the inter-regional knowledge network in the knowledge based economic development of regions, using regional data collected over the IMF financial crisis between 1996 and 2001. In particular, the major questions about the inter-regional knowledge network in terms of regional innovation are as follows. First, how can be distinguished the inter-regional knowledge networks among the regions? Secondly, what is the relationship between the real object economy and the inter-regional knowledge network? To answer rho questions listed above, the social network analysis is used to examine the association between the intra-regional knowledge linkage structure and the change of the real object economy. For the empirical analyses, regional labour data for 16 Metropolitan Areas(Si) and Provinces(Do) from 1996 to 2001 are used. The findings of the study suggest that there is a significant positive relationship between the concentration of the inter-regional knowledge linkage and a rate of economic growth of the real object economy and that there is a negative correlation between the density and the standard deviation of the inter-regional knowledge linkage and the rate.

  • Natural disasters often lead to regional failures that can cause network nodes and links co-located in a large geographical area to fail. Novel approaches are required to assess the network vulnerability under such regional failures. In this paper, we investigate the vulnerability of networks by considering the geometric properties of regional failures and network nodes. To evaluate the criticality of node locations and determine the critical areas in a network, we propose the concept of ${\alpha}$-critical-distance with a given failure impact ratio ${\alpha}$, and we formulate two optimization problems based on the concept. By analyzing the geometric properties of the problems, we show that although finding critical nodes or links in a pure graph is a NP-complete problem, the problem of finding critical areas has polynomial time complexity. We propose two algorithms to deal with these problems and analyze their time complexities. Using real city-level Internet topology data, we conducted experiments to compute the ${\alpha}$-critical-distances for different networks. The computational results demonstrate the differences in vulnerability of different networks. The results also indicate that the critical area of a network can be estimated by limiting failure centers on the locations of network nodes. Additionally, we find that with the same impact ratio ${\alpha}$, the topologies examined have larger ${\alpha}$-critical-distances when the network performance is measured using the giant component size instead of the other two metrics. Similar results are obtained when the network performance is measured using the average two terminal reliability and the network efficiency, although computation of the former entails less time complexity than that of the latter.

  • Purpose This paper examines the role of local market-based communities in driving regional revitalization, using detailed analysis of online networks. We aim to dissect a local community's communication network, highlighting members with high engagement levels and exploring their characteristics. Our goal is to identify the conditions that allow local community networks to grow independently and to demonstrate how the activation of these networks contributes to regional revitalization. Design/methodology/approach We employ a mixed-methods approach, combining social network analysis with statistical techniques to investigate the structure of online communication networks. Specifically, we use ANOVA to determine the statistical significance of our findings, ensuring their reliability. To complement our quantitative data, we include qualitative insights from interviews, adding depth and context to our analysis. Findings Our results show that individuals with high centrality in the online network are crucial for maintaining active local communities. We find that leveraging local resources to create a supportive and adaptable environment is essential for the communities' sustainability and expansion. Importantly, our research draws a direct connection between the vitality of local community networks and the broader process of regional revitalization. We argue that energizing local communities is an effective way to address the risk of regional decline. By integrating quantitative analysis with qualitative feedback, this study contributes to the understanding of local market-based communities as key drivers of regional development. It emphasizes the importance of building vibrant, resourceful community networks to revitalize areas experiencing socio-economic challenges.

  • In this paper, our proposed system uses the regional Gabor wavelet and Neural Network to implement face recognition similar to human face recognition system, because the Gator wavelet expresses visual recognition system of human mathematically and the regional Neural Network is robust to white noise and partial illumination. This system consists of two stages of building database and recognizing face. One is composed by using the supervised learning of Neural Network. At this time, the Neural Network is applied to the upper and the lower part of face images respectively. The Backpropagation algorithm is used to learn Neural Network. Another consists of calibration of slope of face image, measurement of illumination variant using deviation with average face image and similarity comparison using Euclidean distance measure.
