A Study on the Reduction of Onboard Transformer Inrush Current of Electric Railway (전기철도 차량 내 변압기의 여자돌입전류 저감에 관한 연구)

  • The neutral section on electric railway system is significant sector in order to prevent short circuit of two electric powers. However, while electric trains pass the neutral section, those speed is decreased and the accident of AC electric traction system and the electric train would be occurred. So the countermeasures are urgently needed. The automatic power switching technology system that is current being research and development is system to improve these problems. Because main object of this system is power change using static switch in the neutral section, it's expected to cause a variety of transients. Especially, onboard transformer inrush current for electric railway train can be occurred more than rated current according to switching time. Therefore, the analysis and improvement are needed to ensure the stability of this system. In this paper, we analyze the operating characteristics of the automatic power switching technology system. Especially, it reviews inrush current according to the closing phase angle. And we propose control plan of inrush current considering the case that voltage is maintained due to counter electromotive force and regenerative braking operation of electric railway train. Finally, the proposed control scheme was reviewed using the transient analysis program.

A Inverter Control System for Vertical Circulation Parking Facility (수직순환식 입체주차설비용 인버터 제어시스템)

  • In this study, we developed the inverter system to control Induction motor for the vertically circulation parking facility. In the case of calling a pallet, a car parking space, we basically stoned conventional system's problems, pallet is uncontrollable to the fixed position and braking system was worn by forcer braking with remaining speed. Also, by appling to converter controller, added to power regenerative control function, we confirmed the reduce of power supply capacity and the energy saving effect according to increasing operation frequency. The validity of this system is verified by 55kw induction motor driving system. Via this study, the proposed system shows the efficient use of parking facility and good operation characteristics by implementing position and speed control effectively on condition of load and shows energy saying effect by power factor control for the vertically circulation parking facility operation.

  • Switched reluctance machine has much attention because of high efficiency, high power and DC series torque characteristics with a traction drive. But the motor has to have a regenerative mode when it is adopted in an electric vehicle. A current divergence during the regeneration makes difficulties in the control of SRM. This paper proposes a reference current limitation strategy for a stable regeneration based on simulations and experimental tests. The motor is operated with conventional current limit and switching angle control method in motoring mode. Simulations and experiments are executed to verify proposed method.

  • The application of SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) is dramatically increasing due to a simple mechanical structure, high efficiency and a good high speed characteristics. Generally, turn-off angle of power switch must be limited the demagnetization period. To control high conduction ratio in motor operation and regenerative voltage in the generator operation in the SRM, multi-level voltage control is effective. This paper proposes multi-level inverter to have a maximum conduction ratio of SRM. The proposed method is verified by experiment.

  • At present. distance relay and ${\Delta}I$ current increment relay are used as primary and secondary protection in the AC feeder system. However. electric railway vehicles according to power electronic's development had developed resistance control, thyristor phase control and PWM control system. and operation of train is increasing in a feeder section. Therefore this paper analyzes the load characteristics and situation of relay's maloperation caused by load current increase, harmonics, regenerative braking current and operation of the different vehicles in same feeder section. Based on this analysis. this paper proposes consideration items for relay correction and advanced adaptive relay that can change operation area according to load current.

  • As a method for improving the power factor and the waveform of ac line current drawn by ac to dc converters, converters of pulse-width control type with forced commutation circuits have been developed in recent years. However, these converters have rather complex commutation circuits which contain auxiliary thyristors in addition to the main thyristors, and their performance is not satisfactory. This paper proposes a new pulse-width controlled ac to dc converter, and analyses its commutation mechanism and its input and output characteristics. The proposed converter circuit consists of a usual thyristor bridge circuit with series diodes to which reactors and diodes are added. This circuit dose not contain auxiliary thyristors, and in this sense it is simpler than the previous converter circuits of pulse-width control type. Since the main thyristors of the converter can be forcedly turned off several times in a half cycle of source voltage, a pulse-width modulation control is possible in order to improve the current waveform as well as the power factor on ac line side. As to dc output side it is shown that the adjustable range of output voltage is wide and the voltage regulation is good due to a rapid reversal of voltage across the commutating capacitors by LC resonance during commutation period. It is also shown that the regenerative operation of the converter is possible.

  • DC/DC switching power converters produce DC output voltages from different DC input sources. The converters can be used in regenerative braking of DC motors to return energy back in the supply, resulting in energy savings for the systems containing frequent stops. The current mode DC/DC converter is composed of a PWM (pulse width modulation) controller, a MOSFET, and inductor, etc. Pulse width modulation is applied to control and regulate the total output voltage. It is shown that the variation of threshold voltage at MOSFET and the offset voltage increase caused by radiation effects make the PWM pulse unstable. In the PWM operation, the missing pulses, the changes in pulse width, and a change in the period of the output waveform are studied by simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis (SPICE) and experiments.

  • The running of the electric train are done by powering, breaking and coasting. Powering to start and accelerate the rolling stock means driving the three-phase electric induction motors controlled by VVVF inverters which are connected to overhead power line directly(DC) or indirectly(AC, DC/AC). Breaking is achieved by blending control which is the proportional combination between regenerative breaking of VVVF inverter and air pressure control of breaking operating unit(BOU). Therefore, Data obtained during two operation are very important items to evaluate the running performance of RS. This paper has investigated in real time data acquired from VVVF inverter and measured by pressure sensor directly connected to air breaking line(motor car and trailer car). By analyzing data in the region of time and frequency, fundamental methods for eavaluating the running performance of RS quantitatively and objectively have been suggested.

  • Power supply for railway cars can be divided into propulsion system power supply and auxiliary power units (APU). The propulsion system power supply is for propulsion of railway cars, and regenerative braking; the APU provides power for the air compressor, lighting, car control and other auxiliary parts. According to high voltage and high current specifications, generally, an insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) is adopted for the switching component. For appropriate switching operation, a gate driver unit (GDU) is essentially required. In this paper, the technical trends of GDU for railway cars are analyzed and a design consideration for IGBT GDU is described.

Real-Time Simulation of an Excavator Considering the Functional Valves of the MCV (MCV의 기능밸브를 고려한 굴삭기의 실시간 시뮬레이션)

  • In this paper, a real-time simulation model of an excavator using Amesim was proposed, considered the operation of functional valves with the main control valve (MCV). The hydraulic system models including the pump and MCV have been developed. The kinematic and dynamic models of the manipulator have also been developed, to confirm the behavior of the excavator. The MCV model includes various functional valves such as the regenerative valves, holding valves, swing and boom priority valves, and regen-cut valves so that simulations similar to real excavators can be performed. Additionally, to obtain the real-time calculation performance, the parts with no major influence on the dynamic behavior were simplified, high frequency factors were removed, and parameters were optimized. The models were compared with each other through the numerical analysis with variable time-step and fixed time-step, and the results were verified by comparison with the results of the actual vehicle tests.
