In this study we examined the method to estimate numerically the amount of the regenerated power and the excess regenerated power produced in the DC electric power supply system for the urban light rail transit system. And their economic feasibilities are also studied. For this study DC electric power supply system is simulated and the numerical analysis of the regenerated power and the excess regenerated power are conducted. The study result on the sample system shows that the facility to consume the excess regenerated power or the inverting equipment to reuse the excess regenerated power in the electric substation is feasible economically.

Nowadays traction motors in the urban rail transit vehicle are controlled by VVVF inverter and have capability of regenerative braking. The algorithms to deal with the regenerating vehicle in simulation for the DC traction power supply is introduced in this paper. Substations have to be separated from the system to represent reverse biased rectifiers in substations. The model of the trains in regenerative braking has to be changed from the ideal current source to the constant voltage source since the train input voltage has to be controlled below the certain train maximum voltage. Some mismatches are unevitable because the constraint of the regenerated power can not be imposed with the constant voltage source. The mismatches represent the unused regenerated power. A computer program is developed to verify the validity of the algorithm. The test run result shows the program behaves as it is expected and proves the algorithm's validity.

This paper deals with the implementation of three-phase VSI systems which can control the power regenerated from DC bus line to AC supply. The overall system consists of the line-to-line voltage and line current sensors, an actual power calculator using d-q transformation method, a complex power controller with PI control scheme, a gating signal generator for modified q-conduction mode, a DPLL for frequency followup, and Power circuits. Control board is constructed by using a 32-bit DSP TMS32C32, two EFLDs , six ADCs, and a DAC. To verify the performance of the proposed system, we designed and constructed the propotype with the power rating of 5kVA at AC 220V. Experimental results show that the regenerated active power is well controlled to its command vague and the regenerated reactive power still remained at nearly zero through all operating modes.

This paper proposes a method that distributes the load power and stores the regenerated energy for a hoist-load system using the supercapacitor, an energy storage device. The crane, which is a representative hoist-load system, operates in two modes. The first is the hoist-up mode in which the load container is lifted up: the maximum power is required at the end of acceleration. The second is the hoist-down mode in which the load container is lifted down; the regenerated energy is wasted by the resistor In this paper, the supercapacitor stores the regenerated energy in the hoist-down operation and supplies the peak power demand in the hoist-up operation. The same structure as the commercially available three-phase inverter is proposed as a bidirectional do-dc converter to charge and discharge the supercapacitor. A power control algorithm is proposed to optimize the load sharing between the generator and the supercapacitor. Using the proposed method, it is effected that the generator size can be cut down to one third of the original one; it leads to the reduction of the fuel consumption, noise and air pollution. Simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the Proposed method.
The electronic products such as laptop PC, cellular phone, robots and etc. need the DC power source. Recently, the secondary battery is frequently used as the portable DC power source and it needs forming process. In this paper, we proposed the bidirectional converter that the battery can be charged with high power factor and the discharged energy is regenerated into AC power source. In the charging mode, the converter acts as the boost rectifier. And the AC input current is controlled in phase with the AC input voltage. As a result, the power factor is improved nearly to unity. In the discharging mode, the DC power of battery wasted in resistor is regenerated to the AC bus line. Finally, the validity of the proposed bidirectional converter is verified by computer simulations and experimentation.

Theoretical fringe patterns were calculated and regenerated by using power series type Williams equations and coefficients estimated from the photoelastic data. Results of calculated values were evaluated by comparing experimental data points with the regenerated theoretical fringe loops. Statistical accuracy evaluation between regenerated fringe values and experimental ones showed that standard deviation was minimum and correlation coefficient was maximum when the first four terms of Wiliams equations were used.
Power of fuel cell tram is supplied by only fuel cell system or hybrid system of fuel cell and battery/super capacity. Fuel cell is operated by hydrogen, which is fed directly from hydrogen tank or by reforming gasoline or methanol into hydrogen. Power system is preferred with hybrid of fuel cell and battery/super capacity since it improves total energy efficiency through interaction of hybrid components and restores energy regenerated by braking. Also, power supply system by fuel cell hybrid should be designed to output optimum energy efficiency depending on driving mode of fuel cell tram.
In this paper, selection criterions on selection diversity are researched. The diversity is applied to the multiple antenna system based on wireless access in vehicular environment (WAVE) standard for rapid varying channel. Least squares (LS) based decision feedback equalizer (DFE) are used for channel equalization. Received signal is regenerated by means of the decision feedback path. In the selection diversity, the regenerated signal as well as the received signal is selected according to selection criterion. The decision feedback algorithm can follow the fast speed of WAVE fading channel. To control the tracking speed of the time-varying channel, simple low pass filter is used. Finally, the estimated channel value recovers the distorted payloads. Signal power before automatic gain control (AGC) in analog stage can be used as a selection criterion. In the digital stage, signal power after AGC, noise power after AGC, signal to noise ratio after AGC and cross-correlation method can be used as selection criterions. According to the simulation results, the performance of the selection diversity is improved in comparison with that of the combining diversity for the WAVE fading channel.
This paper considers the problem of revising train departure time to reduce electric power consumption of mass rapid transit (MRT) railways. The motion of a train running between stations is divided into three phases: traction, coasting, and deceleration phases. The traction phase requires high electric power to operate MRT railways. In the coasting phase, the train moves stably by consuming little or no power. The deceleration phase is a braking mode and produces some electric power called regenerated brake power owing to inertia force for the train generated In the traction and coasting phases. The regenerative energy can be used by other accelerating trains within a specific range from the train and thereby the power consumptions of train can be reduced. We developed a mixed integer programming model to solve the problem. To validate the suggested model, a computational experiment was conducted using real data from Korea Metropolitan Subway.
A gate driver suitable for forced switch-mode power converters such as UPS and motor drive system is presented. The proposed gate driver uses regenerated snubber power and requires no separate power supply. This does not impose any additional complexity on the main switch. Experimental results show that the proposed circuit is valid.
