  • This paper presents a revised version of the vocabulary analyzer for self-reflection (VACSR), called VACSR v.2.0. The initial version of the VACSR automatically analyzes the occurrences and the level of vocabulary items in the transcribed texts, indicating the frequency, the unused vocabulary items, and those not belonging to either scale. However, it overlooked words with multiple parts of speech due to their identical headword representations. It also needed to provide more explanatory result tables from different corpora. VACSR v.2.0 overcomes the limitations of its predecessor. First, unlike VACSR v.1, VACSR v.2.0 distinguishes words that are different parts of speech by syntactic parsing using Stanza, an open-source Python library. It enables the categorization of the same lexical items with multiple parts of speech. Second, VACSR v.2.0 overcomes the limited clarity of VACSR v.1 by providing precise result output tables. The updated software compares the occurrence of vocabulary items included in classroom corpora for each level of the Common European Framework of Reference-Japan (CEFR-J) wordlist. A pilot study utilizing VACSR v.2.0 showed that, after converting two English classes taught by a preservice English teacher into corpora, the headwords used mostly corresponded to CEFR-J level A1. In practice, VACSR v.2.0 will promote users' reflection on their vocabulary usage and can be applied to teacher training.

  • Finite difference analysis were applied to study the principle operation of monopole antenna for moisture determination in oil palm fruit at 2 GHz. The electromagnetic field interact with oil palm fruit on the interface between the antenna and oil palm fruit and cause a reflection. The reflection measurement is based on mismatch impedance or dielectric properties between two media. Reflection coefficient is used to quantify the level of reflection. The monopole antenna was made of RG405/U semi-rigid coaxial cable with an inner and outer diameter of 0.45 mm and 1.50 mm, respectively with 2.23 mm length of protruding conductor over 5.66 cm length of monopole antenna. This monopole antenna for moisture detection was compared with induced EMF method in terms of reflection coefficient at 2 GHz. The results show that the complex reflection coefficient measured using monopole antenna provides significant results to predict moisture content in oil palm fruit.

  • Lightning electromagnetic fields are important issues for the evaluation of lightning induced overvoltage on power lines and for setting the appropriate protection level for power networks. Such electromagnetic fields are strongly dependent on lightning return stroke currents at different heights along the lightning channel. On the other hand, the ground reflection factor due to the difference between the return stroke channel impedance and the equivalent ground impedance at channel base can have an effect on the shape of the return stroke currents by entering additional reflected currents into the channel. In this paper, the effect of the ground reflection factor on the return stroke currents at different heights along a channel and the electromagnetic fields associated with the lightning channel at close distances are considered. Moreover, the behavior of the electromagnetic fields versus the reflection factor changes and the radial distance changes are considered and the results are discussed accordingly. The results illustrate that the reflection factor has a direct relationship with the values of the electromagnetic fields while this is usually ignored in earlier studies.

  • Recently, a number of researches acknowledge the importance of 'reflection' and 'reflective teacher education,' and they highlight the implication of 'reflection' on the teacher's profession or the teacher education. The reflective thought is interpreted as a subject that should be taught or a sort of strategy that a teacher should learn, while the aspect is excluded that reflection is the interaction between the innate knowledge and the practice. As a result, the reflective teacher education programs that increase the level of reflection are developed and practiced, and the reflection is accepted as a tool for increasing teacher professionalism. Reflective teaching is en essential and basic element for the development of teacher knowledge. In particular, such teacher knowledge might be being gradually expanded by a teacher's self-assessment on reflection on his own instruction. For this reason, this study develops an assessment framework on instruction which is comprized of teacher knowledge and instructional process. To accomplish this, in this study, teacher knowledge is considered as a whole practice knowledge combined by subject matter knowledge, understanding of learners, teaching and learning methods and assessment, and instructional environment. Also, success on instruction in mathematics class might depend on the acquisition of teacher knowledge, instructional planning, instructional execution, and furthermore reflection on instruction. Especially, this study emphasizes that 'reflection on instruction', the most important step of instruction be reflected and examined by the teacher himself.

  • Emerging technologies, such as multimedia and mobile computing, require that middleware platforms can support high adaptability in order to provide more flexible services in heterogeneous environments. To support high quality of service in distributed wired/wireless environments, it will be necessary for applications and middleware to be aware of changes in users requirements as well as environmental conditions, also to be able to adapt their behaviour as such changes. According to the needs of adaptability supporting in middleware, we structure a component-based, mobile agents framework in base level and meta level by using reflection. We propose concepts of meta agents and meta-service agents that are able to reflect changes made by mobile agents to the system. At the meta level of our framework, meta agents monitor execution of mobile agents and it is possible to provide dynamic adaptation of users requirements, deployment of application services and service customization with meta agents and meta-service agents.

  • This study aims to analyze the visual modeling process of pre-service elementary teachers on the reflection of light. The analytical framework was developed from three aspects; coherence, correspondence, and commensurability of the modeling thinking proposed by Halloun (2004). 20 pre-service elementary teachers participated and were randomly paired to observe the reflection of light. They were asked to construct the visual model individually at first and then collaboratively. Comparing personal and cooperative models, the level of correspondence and commensurability in some groups has increased, despite the lack of special educational treatment. In addition, three main features were found in their reasoning process. First, the level of commensurability to apply the law of reflection continued to change fluidly depending on the circumstances and often the verbal and visual explanations did not match. Second, in the process of visual modeling, correspondence was often given priority over commensurability and coherence. Third, in a situation where correspondence and commensurability are at odds with each other, participants resolved this conflict and developed reasoning through review and revision of the auxiliary hypothesis. Several implications have been discussed for effectively guiding visual modeling activities.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the influence of reflective thinking facilitation program on reflection areas and its levels that pre-service science teachers present in the class teaching practice during the student-teaching period. Seven pre-service science teachers participated in this study and only four pre-service science teachers among them were additionally trained with the reflective program. Reflections of pre-service science teachers were mostly shown on class management, including attention and motivation, reflection and improvement for teaching activities, and interactions. However, the understanding of the science curricula and their reconstruction, and advance notice about the next class were not mentioned in their reflections. Pre-service science teachers who participated in the additional reflective program have shown more frequent reflections than those who only participated in the traditional student-teaching program. Pre-service science teachers, not trained with the reflective program, mostly showed descriptive reflection. However, those who participated in the reflective program have shown higher levels of reflections such as dialogic as well as the descriptive reflection. Therefore, pre-education program, reflective journal-writings, and science teachers' assessments on class and their feedback seem to improve the frequency and level of reflection for the pre-service science teachers.

  • The delivery of optimal orthodontic treatment is greatly influenced by a clinician's ability to predict and control tooth movement achieved by applying known force systems to the dentition. It is important to determine the location of the center of resistance of a tooth or group of teeth to better understand the nature of their displacement characteristics under the various force levels. The purpose of this study was to define the location of the centers of resistance of various units of the upper anterior segment for lingually directed 100gm and 200gm force in a dry human skull. The units investigated were composed of four incisors and six anterior teeth. In addition, the effect of change in force magnitude on the location of the center of resistance of these units was investigated. The laser reflection technique was used to measure the initial displacements of the consolidated teeth under loading. The results were as follows: 1. The instantaneous center of resistance for the four anterior teeth was located vertically between level 4 and level 5-that is, at $37.4\%$ apical to the cementoenamel junction level. 2. The instantaneous center of resistance for the six anterior teeth was located vertically just beneath level 5-that is, at $50.3\%$ apical to the cementoenamel junction level. 3. Increasing force levels had little effect on the location of the center of resistance of a given unit. 4. The location of the instantaneous center of resistance shifted apically as the number of dental units consolidated increased.

  • In general, the caisson having the perforated wall is used to for the purpose of reducing the wave reflection and wave overtopping. In this study, the hydraulic characteristics (reflection coefficient) of the perforated wall caisson chamber filled with aggregates (rocks) were investigated with hydraulic model tests. When the perforated wall chambers were filled with aggregates, the reflection coefficients would increase. However, it was confirmed that the rock filling method into the perforated wall chamber could secure the stability of the structures and satisfy the hydraulic characteristics at a certain level.
