  • The purpose of this study is to verify the utility of reflected photoplethysmography sensor using two green light emitting diodes that influenced by ambient light. Recently it has been studied that green light emitting diode is suitable for light source of reflected photoplethysmography sensor at low temperature and high temperature. Another study showed that, green light is better for monitoring heart rate during motion than led light. However, it has a bad characteristic about ambient light noise. To verify the utility of reflected photoplethysmography sensor using green light emitting diode, this study measures the photoplethysmography signal that is distorted by ambient light and will propose a solution. This study has two parts of research method. One is measurement system that composed sensor and board. The sensor is made up PE-foam and Non-woven fabric for flexible sensor. The photoplethysmography signal is measured by measurement board that composed high-pass filter, low-pass filter and amplifier. Ambient light source is light bulb and white light emitting diode that has three steps brightness. Photoplethysmography signal is measured with lead II electrocardiography signal at the same time and it is measured at the finger and radial artery for 1 minute, 1000 Hz sampling rate. The lead II electrocardiography signal is a standard signal for heart rate and photoplethysmography signal that measured at the finger is a standard signal for waveform. The test is repeated 3 times using three sensor. The data is processed by MATLAB to verify the utility by comparing the correlation coefficient score and heart rate. The photoplethysmography sensor using two green light emitting diodes is shown better utility than using one green light emitting diode and red light emitting diode at the ambient light. The waveform and heart rate that measured by two green light emitting diodes are more identical than others. The amount of electricity used is less than red light emitting diode and error peak detectability factor is the lowest.

  • In this paper, the imdedance for each layer using triple cepstrum signal processing for reflected ultrasonic signal from the multilayer structure has been analyzed. The reflection coefficient can be obtained from the amplitude and the polarity of the peaks in the triple cepstrum, and then the impedance of each layer has been reconstructed by the reflection coefficient. In this experiment, four types of multilayers consisting of different metal layers were manufactured. The reflected signals from the multilayer structure have been detected by pulse-echo method. The impedances have been reconstructed by triple cepstrum technique. The experimental results have been in good agreement with the theoretical results.

  • In this research, we proposed a method for high precision measurement than laser displacement measurement. The proposed method finds the causes of error due to change in reflected laser signal level reflected from an object and compensation, and we designed this by applying laser displacement meter.

  • We have constructed an interferometric microscopy using a Michelson interferometer and a He-Ne laser. The three dimensional image was obtained by the interference from the reflected signal by a sample surface and from the reflected signal by a mirror. The axial resolution obtained by Michelson interferometric microscopy is as good as that of the white-light interferometer, but the same fringe is obtained when optical path difference is half-wavelength. The image from Michelson interferometric microscopy was compared with the images from the various types of confocal microscopy.

  • A telemanipulator that reflects grasping force of the slave gripper to the human operator was implemented in order for manipulation to be more delicate and safe. An industrial robot gripper was used as the slave manipulator. The master manipulator was constructed to make it easy for a human operator to direct the slave and to feel the reflected gripping force. Reflected force was generated by the servomotor of the master. The force signal and position signals of the master and the slave was used to generate driving force signal. Basically position-position type control was used. Miner force feedback is added to improve the performance of the system. Implemented system was tested by colliding two fingers of the slave manipulator, and here switching was used to archive more fast and easy manipulation.

  • In case of tissue characterization from ultrasonic echo signal, it is difficult to evaluate an absolute physical quantity because of redundancy in the echo signal. For it, in this paper a possibility of characterization of ultrasonic velocity distribution in multilayered medium using dip points analysis method from the reflected echo spectrum is discussed. To prove the possibility of this method, effect of interference phenomenon, impedance difference, attenuation, and thickness is discussed by computer simulation, and then the results confirm the effectiveness. And results of simple experiment are presented.

  • Two types of deformations can occur on the cable during the monitoring of the rock displacement by the time domain reflectometry. One is the impedance model for tensile deformation, and the other is the capacitance model for the shear deformation. The former gives a response signal with a gradual change in the amplitude of the reflected voltage, meanwhile the latter produces a signal with a blunted spike. The resolution of the TDR can be improved to 0.125% using calibration crimps on the cable of 60 meters long. It is recommended that the diameter of the cable should be 18 mm at least in order to induce a better reflected pulse without any open-circuit. The actual TDR technique cannot characterize the type and the magnitude of rock displacement quantitatively. Systematic investigation of the TDR parameters, such as the exact of cable diameter, cable length, number of crimps, combination of shearing and extension, and environment of the TDR equipment, will be able to improve the resolution to 0.01 mm.

  • In this study, a system for measurement of impedance (transmission parameter) on the human muscle was constructed. The system composed of the stimulating part for input with milli-voltage and the measuring part for measurement of transmission voltage in human muscle. As a result of this experiment, the frequency characteristic of each subject represent that the transmission voltage goes up in spite of a constant input voltage according to frequency (1Hz -50kHz) increment. Namely, the amplitude of input signal was not reflected but frequency was reflected on the measured results. This result be estimated that the proposed system is able to measure passive electrical characteristic of human body.

  • This paper presents a cross-eye characteristics of multi-path wave scattering. Cross-eye method uses the phase differences of multi signals and is used fur electronic protection. When a signal is propagated from transmitter to receiver on the ground surface, direct wave and reflected wave signals are combined in front of the receiving antenna with different phases. To calculate and control the amplitude and phase of reflected signal, we have developed a cross eye electronic protection method for radar system and studied the variation of electric power density.

  • A new mechanical model for predicting the vibration of a pipe pile embedded in longitudinally layered visco-elastic media with radial inhomogeneity is proposed by extending Novak's plain-strain model and complex stiffness method to consider viscous-type damping. The analytical solutions for the dynamic impedance, the velocity admittance and the reflected signal of wave velocity at the pile head are also derived and subsequently verified by comparison with existing solutions. An extensive parametric analysis is further performed to examine the effects of shear modulus, viscous damping coefficient, coefficient of disturbance degree, weakening or strengthening range of surrounding soil and longitudinal soft or hard interbedded layer on the velocity admittance and the reflected signal of wave velocity at the pile head. It is demonstrated that the proposed model and the obtained solutions provide extensive possibilities for practical application compared with previous related studies.
