In this paper, at first, we investigate existing algorithms for finding the minimum infinity-norm solution of consistent linear equations and then propose a new algorithm. The proposed algorithm is intended to includes the advantages of computational efficiency as well as geometric explicitness. As a practical application example, optimum trajectory planning for redundant robot manipulators is considered. Also, an efficient approach avoiding discontinuity in trajectory is proposed by resolving the non-uniqueness problem of minimum infinity-norm solution. To be specific, the proposed method for checking possible discontinuity does not need any other algorithms in checking the possibility of discontinuity while previous work needs specially designed checking courses. To show the usefulness of the proposed techniques, an example calculating minimum infinity-norm solution for comparing the computational efficiency as well as the trajectory planning for a redundant robot manipulator are included.

An impedance control approach based on an extended task space formulation is addressed to control the kinematically redundant manipulators. Defining a weighted inner product in joint space, a minimal parametrization of the null space can be achieved and we can visualize the null space motion explicitly. Based on this formulation, we propose a control method called inertially decoupled impedance controller to control the motion of the end-effector as well as the internal motion expanding the conventional impedance control. Some numerical simulations are given to demonstrate the performance of the proposed control method.

The nozzle dam task is essentially needed to maintain and repair nuclear power plants. For this task, an 8-dof redundant robot is studied with a local path-planning method[l] which is effective to find the optimal joint path in the constrained environment. In this paper, the method[l] is improved practically with the weight matrix and efficient algorithm to find working set. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by simulation and animation.
This paper poropsed an efficient optimization technuque to resolve redundancy and a trajectory planning for a high precision control using proposed optimization technique. The proposed techniqus is the joint disturbance torque optimizatioin considering redundancy in the joing servo control. Joint disturbance torque is not unknown it is described dynamic equation ignored friction and viscosity. The proposed technique is used the dynamic equatiion included the joint disturbance torque characteristics. Numerical example of 3 joint planar redundant robot manipulator is simulated. In the 2-norm minimization of joint disturbance torque we compared pseudoinverse local optimization with proposed technique, and the results showed better the proposed technique. So the proposed technique can be highly precision controlled redundant robot manipulators in the joint servo control.

In addtion to a basic motion task, redundant manipulators can achieve some additional tasks by optimizing proper performance criteria. Some of performance criteria can be transformed to inequality constraints. So the redundancy resolving problem can be reformulated as a local optimization problem with equality constraints for the end effector and inequality constraints for some performance criteria. In this article, we propose a method for solving the inverse kinematics of a manipulator with redundancy using the Kuhn-Tucker theorem to incorporate inequality constraints. With proper choice of inequality constraints, the proposed method gives a way of optimizing multiple criteria in redundant manipulators.

A compliance control method of redundant manipulators is presented. This method is based on the new stiffness model, which allows us to modulate accurate joint stiffness of realizing the end effector stiffness to be varied with task requirements. Control model is developed and by implementing the proposed method in a three-dof(degree of freedom) planar redundant manipulator, its effectiveness is validated.
For on-line trajectory planning such as teleoperation it is desirable to keep good manipulability of the robot manipulators since the motion command is not given in advance. To keep good manipulability means the capability of moving any arbitrary directions of task space. An optimization process with different manipulability measures are performed and compared for a redundant robot system moving in 2-dimensional task space, and gives results that the conventional manipulability ellipsoid based on the Jacobian matrix is not good choice as far as the optimal direction of motion is concerned.
A neural optimization network is designed to solve the collsion-free inverse kinematics problem for redundant robot manipulators under the constraints of joint limits, maximum velocities and maximum accelerations. And the fuzzy rules are proposed to determine the weightings of neural optimization networks to avoid the collision between robot manipulator and obstacles. The inputs of fuzzy rules are the resultant distance, change of the distance and sum of the changes. And the output of fuzzy rules is defined as the capability of collision avoidance of joint differential motion. The weightings of neural optimization networks are adjusted according to the capability of collision avoidance of each joint. To show the validities of the proposed method computer simulation results are illustrated for the redundant robot with three degrees of freedom,
The resolved motion rate control (RMRC) is converting to Joint space trajectory from given Cartesian space trajectory. The RMRC requires the inverse of Jacobian matrix. Since the Jacobian matrix of the redundant robot is generally not square, the pseudo-inverse must be introduced. However the pseudo-inverse is not easy to be implemented on a digital computer in real time as well as mathematically complex. In this paper, a simple fuzzy resolved motion rate control (FRMRC) that can replace the RMRC using pseudo-inverse of Jacobian is proposed. The proposed FRMRC with appropriate fuzzy rules, membership functions and reasoning method can solve the mapping problem between the spaces without complexity. The mapped Joint space trajectory is sufficiently accurate so that it can be directly used to control redundant manipulators. Simulation results verify the efficiency of the proposed idea.
In this paper, fault tolerant mechanisms are presented for a servo manipulator system designed to operate in a hot cell. A hot cell is a sealed and shielded room to handle radioactive materials, and it is dangerous for people to work in the hot cell. So, remote operations are necessary to handle radioactive materials in the hot cell. KAERI has developed a servo manipulator system to perform such remote operations. However, since electric components such as servo motors are weak to radiations, fault tolerant mechanisms have to be considered. For fault tolerance of the servo manipulator system, hardware and software redundancy have been considered. In case of hardware, radioactive resistant electric components such as cables and connectors have been adopted and motors driving a transport have been duplicated. In case of software, a reconfiguration algorithm accommodating one motor's failure has been developed. The algorithm uses redundant axis to recover the end effector's motion in spite of one motor's failure.
