  • Rate-independent crystal plasticity model suffers from the non-uniqueness of activated slip systems and the determination of the shear slip rates on the active slip systems. In this paper, a time-integration algorithm which circumvents the problem of the multiplicity of the slip systems was developed and implemented into the user subroutine VUMAT of a commercial finite element program ABAQUS. The magnitude of the slip shears on the active slip systems in f.c.c Cu single crystal aligned with the specific crystallographic orientation was investigated to validate our solution procedure. Also, texture developments under various deformation modes such as simple compression, simple tension and plane strain compression were compared with the results of the rate-dependent model by using the rate-independent crystal plasticity model. The computation time employing the rate-independent model is much more reduced than the those of the rate-dependent model.

  • A formulation of an isoparametric quadrilateral higher-order plate bending finite element is presented. The 8-noded 28-d.o.f. plate element has been degenerated from the three-dimensional continuum by introducing the plate assumptions and considering higher-order in-plane displacement profile. The element characteristics have been derived by the Galerkin's weighted residual method and computed by using the selective reduced integration technique to avoid shear-locking phenomenon. Several numerical examples are given to demonstrate the accuracy and versatility of the proposed quadrilateral higher-order plate bending element over the other existing plate finite elements in both static and dynamic analyses.

  • Metal thin films, which are indispensable constituents of ULSI (Ultra Large Scale Integration) circuits, have been fabricated by physical or chemical methods. However, these methods have a drawback of using expensive high vacuum instruments. In this work, the fabrication of tungsten metal film by spin coating was investigated. First of all, inorganic peroxopolytungstic acid (W-IPA) powder, which is soluble in water, was prepared by dissolving metal tungsten in hydrogen peroxide and by evaporating residual solvent. Then, the solution of W-IPA was mixed with organic solvent, which was spin-coated on wafers. And then, tungsten metal films, were obtained after reduction procedure. By selecting an appropriate organic solvent and irradiating UV, the sheet resistance of the tungsten metal film could be remarkably reduced.

  • This paper describes an analytic method for infrared thermography to detect surface cracks in thin plates. Traditional thermographic method uses the spatial contrast of a thermal field, which is often corrupted by noise in the experiment induced mainly by emissivity variations of target surfaces. This study developed a robust analytic approach to crack detection for thermography using the holomorphic function of a temperature field in thin plate under steady-state thermal conditions. The holomorphic function of a simple temperature field was derived for 2-D heat flow in the plate from Cauchy-Riemann conditions, and applied to define a contour integral that varies depending on the existence and strength of singularity in the domain of integration. It was found that the contour integral at each point of thermal image reduced the noise and temperature variation due to heat conduction, so that it provided a clearer image of the singularity such as cracks.

  • The dynamic response analysis for large structures using finite element method requires a large amount of computational resources. This paper presents an efficient vibration analysis procedure by combining node-based substructuring reduction method with a response analysis scheme for structures with undamped, proportional or nonproportional damping. The iterative form of substructuring reduction scheme is derived to reduce the full eigenproblem and to calculate the dynamic responses. In calculating the time response, direct integration scheme is used because it can be applied directly to the reduced model. Especially for the non proportional damping matrix, the transformation matrices defined in the displacement space are used to reduce the system. The efficiency and the effectiveness of the present method are demonstrated through the numerical examples.

  • New poly-Si TFTs have been proposed and fabricated in order to increases the output channel resistance ($r_o$). The counter-doped($p^+$) source is tied to the $n^+$ source and is extended into the channel region so that it employs the reverse bias depletion in the channel. As $V_{DS}$ is increased, the depletion width is increased and the effective channel width is reduced. Therefore, the output current saturates well and the $r_o$ is increased successfully. The proposed CMOS devices may improve the amplifier gain of data driver in active-matrix displays

  • This paper describes two methods which generate all the prime implicants (PI's) quickly by using the directions of adjacency tavle (DA-table) that gives the knowledge of adjacency relations among the given minterms. One is a graphical method that enables us to generate PI's by hand, the other is a checking method that determines the existance of PI's quickly when it is programmed on a digital computer. And a fast minimization algorithm will be shown in this paper that can be implemented with reduced computational effort by selecting essential prime implicants (EPI's) first of all and using the concept of the integration of the PI identification and selection procedure. The procedure, proposed in this paper, has all the advantage of Karnaugh mapping, so the procedure is simple and easy.

  • The plane crack-contact problem for an infinite elastic layer with two symmetric rectangular rigid stamps on its upper and lower surfaces is considered. The elastic layer having an internal crack parallel to its surfaces is subjected to two concentrated loads p on its upper and lower surfaces trough the rigid rectangular stamps and a pair of uniform compressive stress $p_0$ along the crack surface. It is assumed that the contact between the elastic layer and the rigid stamps is frictionless and the effect of the gravity force is neglected. The problem is reduced to a system of singular integral equations in which the derivative of the crack surface displacement and the contact pressures are unknown functions. The system of singular integral equations is solved numerically by making use of an appropriate Gauss-Chebyshev integration formula. Numerical results for stress-intensity factor, critical load factor, $\mathcal{Q}_c$, causing initial closure of the crack tip, the crack surface displacements and the contact stress distribution are presented and shown graphically for various dimensionless quantities.

  • A versatile flat shell element has been developed by combining a membrane element with drilling degree-of-freedom and a plate bending element. This element is formulated by the enhanced displacement field with the additional non-conforming displacement modes. Thus the element possesses six degrees-of-freedom (DOF) per node which permits an easy connection to other six DOF elements as well as the improvement of the element behavior. In plate bending part, this element is established by the combined use of the addition of non-conforming modes, the reduced (or selective) integration scheme, and the construction of the substitute shear strain fields. The achieved improvement may be attributable to the fact that the merits of these individual techniques are merged into the new element in a complementary manner. In membrane part, this element shows better membrane behavior as the nonconforming displacement mode is added to drilling mode.
