  • The recycling cell formation problem means that disposal products are classified into recycling product families using group technology in their end-of-life phase. Disposal products have the uncertainties of product condition usage influences. Recycling cells are formed considering design, process and usage attributes. In this paper, a new approach for the design of cellular recycling system is proposed, which deals with the recycling cell formation and assignment of identical products concurrently. Fuzzy ART neural networks are applied to describe the condition of disposal product with the membership functions and to make recycling cell formation. The approach leads to cluster materials, components, and subassemblies for reuse or recycling and can evaluate the value at each cell of disposal products. Disposal refrigerators are shown as an example.

  • In this paper, shortening of product life cycle and wide disposal of consumer product have given rise to many environmental problems, it needs to propose module design principle for saving of disassembly cost and reusing of used part and subassembly. To analyze characteristics of module for recycling, materials and function of part and subassembly must be classified. In disassembly process, a unit operation can be grasped for disassembly function, worker, tool and sorting process. As a result of applying module design principle, simpler structure and reduced structural interference can be realized for product structure. For disassembly, simpler disassembly and quicker disassembly can be obtained for recycling.

Disposal products have the uncertainties of product status by usage influences. Recycling cells are formed considering design, process and usage attributes. In this paper, a novel approach to the design of cellular recycling system is proposed, which deals with the recycling cell formation and assignment of identical products concurrently. Fuzzy clustering algorithm and Fuzzy-ART neural network are applied to describe the states of disposal product with the membership functions and to make recycling cell formation. This approach leads to recycling and reuse of the materials, components, and subassemblies and can evaluate the value at each cell of disposal products. • In recent, a great number of electric motor units (EMUs) have been disused in Korea according as its legal duration is 25 years. Generally, the disused EMUs are disposed by selling original form or scrapping for junk. Until now, any efficient disposal system for disused EMUs has not existed. The purpose of this study was to develop the recycling process for the FRP used as an interior panel of EMU. This process was to manufacture a product mixing binders, fillers and the powdered FRP. The characteristics of a product were changed with the mixing ratio of the powdered FRP. The optimal ratio of the powdered FRP was from 10 % to 15 % (w/w). In the future, the application of this process can enhance the efficiency of resource recycling and decrease the cost of waste treatment in the EMU industry.

Disposal products have the uncertainties of product status by usage influences during product use phase, and recycling cells are formed design, process and usage attributes. In order to deal with the uncertainties, fuzzy set theory and fuzzy logic-based neural network model are applied to recycling cell formation problem for disposal products. Fuzzy C-mean algorithm and a heuristic approach based on fuzzy ART neural network is suggested. Especially, the modified Fuzzy ART neural network is shown that it has a good clustering results and gives an extension for systematically generating alternative solutions in the recycling cell formation problem. Disposal refrigerators are shown as examples.

  • The objectives of this study were: (1) to identify differences in consumer attitudes and intentions to recycle fashion products using three types of recycling (including resale, reform, and donation), and (2) to examine the moderating effects of consumer prosocialness on the relationships between attitude and intention for each type of fashion product recycling. Men and women aged 20 years and over were recruited from a marketing research firm panel. Participants completed an online questionnaire incorporating measures for attitudes and intentions to resale, reform, and donate fashion products, prosocialness, frequency of purchasing fashion products, monthly amount of spending on fashion products, and demographic information. Data from 224 participants were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 and PROCESS macro. The results demonstrated that consumers had significantly different attitudes and intentions depending on type of fashion product recycling. Consumers had more positive attitudes toward donation compared to resale and reform types of recycling. Consumer intentions toward resale and donation were significantly higher than their intention to reform. Furthermore, this study confirmed that the attitude-intention gap in fashion product recycling can be explained by individual prosocialness. The moderating effects of prosocialness on the associations between attitude and intention to recycle were significant. The implications of increasing consumers' behavior intention to recycle fashion products was discussed and future research suggestions are provided.

  • This research was conducted to estimate the physicochemical characteristics of waste catalyst and its in-process product from recycling and to suggest fundamental data for religious systems such as quality standards. Mo and V contents were increased from the waste catalyst to calcinated material and oxidized material. In the results of a heavy metals leaching test, Pb was not detected in any catalyst, calcinated and oxidized materials. Cu was not detected in the catalyst. However, it was detected in ${\leq}$1.16 mg/l for calcinated material and in 1.34~13.73 mg/l for $MoO_3$ oxidezed material. Concentrations in recycling in-process products (calcinated and oxidized materials) were higher than those of waste catalyst. Oil content of catalyst waste ranged from 0.01-14.03 wt%. Oil contents of calcinated and oxidized materials were greatly decreased compared to the catalyst waste. Carbon and sulfur contents as chemical poisoning material of catalyst waste ranged from 0.33-76.08 wt% and 5.00-22.00 wt%, respectively. The carbon contents of calcinated and oxidized materials showed below 20 wt%. The sulfur content showed below 8wt% for calcinated material and below 0.22 wt% for oxidized material.

  • The objective of this article is to summarize the commercial lithium ion battery (LIB) recycling processes in Korea and to suggest new direction for LIB recycling. A representative LIB recycler, SungEel Hitech Co. has successfully operated the LIB recycling process for over 10 years, and new recycling processes were recently proposed or developed by many recycling companies and battery manufacturers. In the new recycling processes, lithium is recovered before nickel and cobalt due to the rapid rise in lithium prices, and metal sulfate solution as final product of recycling process can be supplied to manufacturers. The main problem that the new recycling process will face is impurities, which will mainly come from end-of-life electric vehicles or new additives in LIB, although the conventional processes must be improved for mass processing.

  • This study aims at evaluating the environmental impacts stemmed from the End-of-Life Vehicle(ELV) treatment systems in Korea, using Life Cycle Assessment(LCA) method. In this study, both environmental burden from the ELV dismantling process & recycling processes and environmental benefit which were derived from the avoided environmental impacts by substituting recycled materials for virgin materials were considered. First of all, the key issues which were defined as the environmental aspects that account for more than $1\%$ out of the total environmental impacts were identified from the Life Cycle Impact Assessment(LCIA). $CO_2$, crude oil, natural gas, coal, etc. were found out to be the key issue parameters. From the LCI Analysis and LCIA studies, it was shown that the significant environmental aspects were related with the recycling process of ferro scrap, the shredding process of compressed car bodies and the dismantling process of end-of-life engines. In particular, the recycling process of ferro scrap has the most significant effects on the environmental impacts of the ELV treatment systems. Based on these results, it is recommended to improve the recycling process of ferro scrap in order to make the ELV treatment systems more environmentally sound.

In order to treat the uncertainties, fuzzy set theory and fuzzy logic-based neural network model are applied to recycling cell formation problem far disposal products. In this paper, a heuristic approach fuzzy ART neural network is suggested. The modified fuzzy ART neural network is shown that it has a great efficiency and give an extension for systematically generating alternative solutions in the recycling cell formation problem. We present the results of this approach applied to disposal refrigerators and the comparison of performances between other algorithms. This paper introduced a procedure which integrates economic and environmental factors into the disassembly of disposal products for recycling in recycling cells. A qualitative method of disassembly analysis is developed and its ai is to improve the efficiency of the disassembly and to generated an optimal disassembly which maximize profits and minimize environmental impact. Three criteria established to reduce the search space and facilitate recycling opportunities.
