  • In this study, 3D printing filaments using recycled polypropylene (rPP) were produced by a single screw extruder. Graphene composite filament was also prepared using electrochemically exfoliated graphene (EEG) as a composite filler by adding 10, and 20 wt% of EEG to rPP. The graphene and rPP were successfully dispersed with great homogeneity, so that 3D filaments were uniformly produced, and their thermal properties increased as the graphene content increased. The mechanical property was also improved when EEG was 10 wt% but decreased when EEG was 20 wt% compared to that of rPP. 3D structures were successfully manufactured using prepared 3D filaments by a conventional 3D printer, and great advantages can be expected in terms of environmental and economical perspective by adopting plastic waste.

  • The aim of the research is to provide possibility of quality controlling by rheological properties for lightweight foamed concrete. The lightweight foamed concrete achieves its low density by containing air bubbles (foam) produced during the mixing process. Therefore, containing foamed volume during setting period is critical for the securing the performance as an insulating material. In this research, regarding foam collapse during the setting period, rheolgocial properties of fresh state lightweight foamed concrete were assessed to get its relationship with volume stability, or foam stability. For the experiment regarding foaming factors including mixing time, mix design of contents for materials, rheological properties of fresh state lightweight foamed concrete were tested with its density and settling depth. Based on the settling depth with various factors, relationship with rheological properties was analyzed, and especially, close relationship of plastic viscosity and settling depth was found. Therefore, from the results of this research, it is considered to contribute on suggesting a new approach of quality controlling for lightweight foamed concrete using rheological test method.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish experimentally the mechanical properties of fiber reinforced concrete using kenaf dosages and propose the usable method of kenaf fiber in the concrete industry as natural fiber materials. Kenaf fiber help make the concrete strength including tensile and flexural stronger, more resistant to plastic and drying shrinkage, less amount of carbon dioxide because of having a rough surface and excellent tensile strength of fiber and improving the concrete's corrosion resistance. It is to select the kenaf dosages of 4 cases (0, 0.3, 0.6 and $0.9kg/m^3$ and perform various tests including slump, air content, plastic and drying shrinkage, flexural and tensile strength for fiber reinforced concrete. The results of this study are as follows : In case of increasing kenaf fiber dosages, show the slump decrease and air content increase, also take effect results for increasing concrete strength including flexural and tensile, decreasing plastic and drying shrinkage. therefore, considered test results and cost, the optimum dosages of kenaf fiber is proposed about $0.6kg/m^3$ and need to study on the site application considering concrete quality and another compared tests.

  • Recently, there have been many studies seeking towards the utilization of cementitious powder from concrete waste as recycle cement. However, most of the studies actually have been researches about the reuse of mortar or paste, not concrete waste. In fact, either mortar or paste is quite different from a real concrete waste in terms of age and mixture. Thus the purpose of this study is to examine basic physical properties of recycle cement, manufactured with cementitious powder from concrete waste, and analyze differences in chemical and hydraulic properties of the cement and its tested model. As a result of the chemicai analysis, recycle cement is composed mainly of CaO and SiO2, and that it is even lower in the content of CaO than Portland cement, which is also supported by previous studies. But, Differently from previous studies, plastic working at the temperature of 650 was found an optimal condition under which cementitious powder from concrete waste could restore its hydraulic properties.

  • Plastics that we use and simply throw away have a life span of about 500 years and barely decompose. The practice of producing and using common plastics needs to be challenged. Until now, they have been useful in the industrial structure of mass production, but it can be said that there is a lack of research into new materials to introduce and apply in terms of material recycling. As a result of this, we have come to the uncomfortable realization of the fact that we cannot incinerate or reuse these precious resources indiscriminately. No matter how well-designed a product is, it has a competitive advantage if production and consumption activities, waste, collection, sorting and treatment are considered in terms of a continuous cycle, and in this respect, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) can help. We are implementing the EPR system, and active industrialization in the field of recycling is required, which is also a challenge for producers to participate actively in recycling and seek to save and recycle resources in design and manufacturing. Against this backdrop, We would like to examine the possibilities, through various studies and developments on product design of recyclable materials, which is being conducted mainly in Europe. In particular, we would like to examine the methods, and value of solving environmental problems and the active efforts to achieve this in the design world, and in particular the case of product design using recycled plastics.

  • PURPOSES : This study develops eco-friendly asphalt reinforcement materials applicable to bridge deck pavement. The main purpose is to ensure highly reliable quality applicable to structures and the possibility of practical application. The main target of the study is to develop materials that are environmentally friendly and capable of improving performance. METHODS : The application of double-reinforcement fiber improves the performance of the road pavement. 1. We use recycled film for application of sheet-typed reinforcement. 2. We use preprocessing fibers to reinforce the properties of composite pavement materials. RESULTS : The developed products may produce materials that fit the purpose of achieving stability and environmental friendliness. Sheet-typed reinforcements use more than 50% recycled resin. The most important type of damage to the asphalt layer is deflection (plastic deformation). These products have a very high deflection resistance of not less than 6,000 cycles/mm. In addition, all performance is excellent. Thus, it will be easier to access the field in the future. CONCLUSIONS : Fiber-reinforced asphalt pavement showed excellent performance. Sheet-typed reinforcements containing 50% recycling resin produced good performance in terms of functionality as well as environmental friendliness. Thus, enhancing the field applicability will enhance the usability of the reinforcements.

  • It is very important to utilize effectively fibrous waste paper in terms of cost savings, environmental effects, and governmental policies. The quality of final products and runnability of papermaking process are primarily affected by constitutions of fibrous raw materials. In specific, board grade paper depends directly on compositions of waste paper bales. At present, the raw materials of board grade paper are mainly derived from lots kinds of wastepaper. Some papermaking countries, like EU, USA and Japan have advanced classification and management systems of recycled fiber, but Korea has not yet organized systematically. In this study, evaluation of wastepaper bale compositions and their fiber properties were carried out for effective utilization of fibrous raw materials for board grade paper production. 3 kinds of wastepaper bales were classified to fibrous or non-fibrous materials. In case of fibrous materials, KOCC, kraft sack paper and white duplex board matters were main component in total weight basis, and in case of non-fibrous materials, vinyl, plastic and cloth matters were main component, in turns. 3 representative kinds of waste paper were disintegrated and classified, and then prepared to handsheet for evaluation of recycled fiber property. Consequently, fines and ash content of waste paper, isolated from KOCC and white duplex board were higher than that of kraft sack paper. pH values of all kinds of waste fibers were neutral or weak alkaline.

  • To study the seismic behavior of recycled aggregate concrete filled circular steel tube (RACFCST) frames, the seismic behavior experiment of RACFCST frame was carried out to measure the hysteresis curve, skeleton curve and other seismic behavior indexes. Moreover, based on the experimental study, a feasible numerical analysis model was established to analyze the finite element parameters of 8 RACFCST frame specimens, and the influence of different variation parameters on the seismic behavior index for RACFCST frame was revealed. The results showed that the skeleton curve of specimens under different axial compression ratios were divided into three stages: elastic stage, elastic-plastic stage and descending stage, and the descending stage was relatively stable, indicating that the specimen had stronger deformation capacity in the descending stage. With the increase of axial compression ratio, the peak bearing capacity of all specimens reduced gradually, and the reduction was less than 5%. With the decrease of beam-column linear stiffness ratio, the peak bearing capacity decreased gradually. With the decrease of yield bending moment ratio of beam-column, the peak bearing capacity decreased gradually, and the decreasing rate of peak bearing capacity gradually accelerated. In addition, compared with the axial compression ratio, the beam-column linear stiffness ratio and the yield bending moment ratio of beam-column had a more significant influence on the peak bearing capacity of RACFCST frame.

  • This study evaluated the recyclability of waste plastics in used coffee capsules disposed of as municipal waste. For recycling, a new material separation process was developed to remove the coffee grounds through primary crushing, washing, sieving, and secondary crushing, followed by corona discharge electrostatic separation. Furthermore, for the under 10 mm size fraction samples, the aluminum removal and the plastic recovery were 95.4% and 98.3%, respectively, under optimal conditions. In addition, for the 15 mm fraction samples, the aluminum removal and the plastic recovery were 91.3% and 97.2%, respectively. To evaluate the recyclability of the separated waste plastics, the samples were pelleted, and their material properties were analyzed. No hazardous substances were detected, and the results were similar to those for homo-PP. Therefore, it was confirmed tha t sufficient functiona lity existed a s recycled PP. However, owing to the da rk color of the pellets, limited applications to black or dark products are expected.
