  • Recycled aggregate is not used for structures because of negative awareness of quality. for improving the negative awareness, a concrete structure was built with 100% recycled aggregate and monitoring mechanical properties and durability was conducted. As a result, It was observed that mechanical properties and carbonation of structures with 100% recycled aggregate were fine.

  • This study was conducted to confirm the applicability of recycled aggregates as aggregates for structural concrete as a way to respond to the shortage of natural aggregates. The two-stage mixing approach developed by Tam et al. is known to be a method that can improve the mechanical performance of recycled aggregate concrete without the installation of new additional facilities. In this work, modified version of two stage mixing approach, which was used in our earlier work, was introduced to prepare mortar specimens with recycled fine aggregate, and the compressive strength and fire resistance were compared to mortar mixed with normal mixing approach. According to the experimental results from mortar with recycled fine aggregate, the use of two-stage mixing approach was found to be more effective than normal mixing approach for compressive strength development. In addition, the residual strengths of the mortar with two-stage mixing approach was higher than mortar made of normal mixing approach after exposure to 600 and 900 ℃. It is possible to manufacture high-performance cement composites with recycled fine aggregates through the active use of the two-stage mixing approach.

  • This paper discusses the suitability of producing concrete with 100 % recycled aggregate to meet durability and strength requirements for different applications. Aggregate strength, gradation, absorption, specific gravity, shape and texture are some of the physical and mechanical characteristics that contribute to the strength and durability of concrete. In general, the quality of recycled aggregate depends on the loading and exposure conditions of the demolished structures. Therefore, the experimental program was focused on the evaluation of physical and mechanical properties of the recycled aggregate over a period of 6 months. In addition, concrete properties produced with fine and coarse recycled aggregate were evaluated. Several concrete mixes were prepared with 100 % recycled aggregates and the results were compared to that of a control mix. SEM was conducted to examine the microstructure of selected mixes. The results showed that concrete with acceptable strength and durability could be produced if high packing density is achieved.

  • Red mud is an inorganic by-product produced from the mineral processing of alumina from Bauxite ores. the development of alkali-activated slag-red mud cement can be a representative study aimed at recycling the strong alkali of the red mud as a construction material. This study is to investigate the optimum water content, compressive strength, moisture absorption coefficient and efflorescence of alkali-activated slag-red mud soil pavement according to the recycling fine aggregate content. The results showed that the optimum water content, moisture absorption coefficient and efflorescence area of alkali-activated slag-red mud soil pavement increased but the compressive strength of that decreased as the recycled fine aggregate content increased.

  • The use of waste concrete can resolve the environmental pollution and shortage of natural aggregate. However, recycled aggregate includes substantial amount of cement paste. So, these aggregates are more porous, and less resistant to mechanical actions than natural aggregates. So, recently, the new manufacture processes of high quality recycled aggregates were suggested such as heating and solving to acid liquid. But the method of solving to acid liquid is not economical and produces additional environmental pollution. In this paper, for the purpose of manufacture of high quality recycled aggregates, the heating processes was added to the existing process of recycled aggregates. To find the optimum process, the experiment was performed by using the method of statistical experiment design, and the heating temperatures(4 levels : 300, 450, 600 and $750^{\circ}C$) and heating times(4 levels : 5, 20, 40, 60 minute) were main experimental variables. By the test results, the optimum manufacturing condition of coarse recycled aggregate was $600^{\circ}C$ and 40 minute, and for the fine recycled aggregate, a little heating made a satisfaction to the KS standard quality code.

  • Due to the tendency of increase in demolished-concrete produced by alteration and deterioration of concrete structures, recycling of those demolished-concrete is necessary to solve the exhaustion of natural aggregate, in order to save resources and protect environment. In this an experimental study herein, the Chlorine-ion and Carbonation resistance of the recycled aggregate concrete was investigated. Coarse aggregate was replaced with $100\%$ of the recycled aggregate and cement and fine recycled aggregate was replaced with various amount. It was shown that the concrete can obtain resistance of chlorine-ion, when fly ash replaced with up to $30\%$ of cement.

  • Recently, as to destruction and renovation of aged building, waste concretes have been reclaimed near foreshore and filled up underground. Recycling demolished concrete as aggregate helps to settle economic and environmental problems of obtaining superior aggregates from natural sources and to dispose waste concretes. An experimental study was carried out to investigate the strength characteristics of no-fine concrete containing recycled aggregates. The cement-aggregate weight ratios of 1: 5, 1: 6, 1: 7 and water-cement ratios of 30, 35, 40, 45% were chosen for the mix design of no-fine concretes. The compressive and splitting tensile strength at 7 and 28 days were measured for 12 different mixes. On the basis of test results, the optimum mix proportion of no-fine concrete containing recycled aggregates was determined and applied to the production of retaining wall block.

  • A recycled aggregate contains impurities that affect negative effects on physical properties of concrete. Therefore, a test method for examining impurities content in recycled aggregate is necessary before use of recycled aggregate. In this study, the test method by visual examination for separating impurities in recycled fine and coarse aggregates was developed. The results of the test are as follow: 1. The current KS F 2576 was necessary for comprehensive revision including types of tested recycled aggregate, definition of terminology, quantity of sample, and test method. 2. Visual examination is appropriate for larger than impurity panicle size of 1.2mm, and the larger panicle size the shorter time was required. 3. For the impurity content test by visual examination, the easiness and accuracy of the test can be obtained from the condition of sample weight of 30 grams with particle size of 2.5mm to 5mm for recycled fine aggregate and the condition of sample weight of 1 kilogram with panicle size of larger than 5mm for recycled coarse aggregate.

  • It is strongly needed to investigate the fine sand as an alternative fine aggregate of well-graded river sand because the fine sand which is being enormously distributed in the midstream and downstream of Nakdong-River in Korea has a poor grading but good quality as a fine aggregate for concrete. Thus, the purpose of this experimental research is to evaluate the durability of concrete using the fine sand to utilize it actively as a fine aggregate. For this purpose, the concrete specimens using different fine sand were made for the specified concrete strength of 35MPa, and then their durability such as the resistance to freezing and thawing and carbonation, and drying shrinkage were evaluated. It was observed from the test results that the resistance to freezing and thawing and carbonation of concrete using the fine sand was similar to that of concrete using reference sand, but the drying shrinkage of concrete using the fine sand with small fineness was comparatively lager than that of concrete using reference sand.
