  • A pre amplifier, a limiting amplifier, and a decision IC chipset for 10Gbit/s optical receiver was implemented with AIGaAs/GaAs HBT(Heterojunction Bipolar Transistor) technology. The HBT allows a cutoff frequency of 55GHz and a maximum oscillation of 45GHz. An optical receiver front-end was implemented with the fabricated pre amplifier IC and a PIN photodiode. It showed 46dB$\Omega$, gain and $f_{3db}$ of 12.3GHz. The limiting amplifier Ie showed 27dB small signal gain, $f_{3db}$ of 1O.6GHz, and the output is limited to 900mVp-p from 20mVp-p input voltage. The decision circuit IC showed 300-degree phase margin and input voltage sensitivity of 47mVp-p at 1OGbit/s.

  • In this paper, design and applications of a generalized, versatile and customizable IF signal generator that can model the modernized GPS and Galileo signal is given. It generates IF sampled data that can be directly used by a software receiver. Entire constellation of satellites which is independent of satellite-user geometry is easily determined using a real or simulated ephemeris data. Since the IF center frequency, sampling frequency and quantization bit number are user location dependent parameters, their effects are also considered in IF signal generator. The generalized IF signal generator will be very well suited for the development phase of a software receiver due to its versatility. The full access to the sampling frequency, front-end filter definition and ADC parameters also offers a great opportunity for cost-effective analysis of tracking loops and error mitigation techniques at the receiver level. Interference sources can be easily added to the generator to simulate specific environments. This software IF signal generator can also be used to feed a multi-frequency multi-system software receiver for the prototyping of a combined GPS/Galileo receiver. The test result using the generated signals and a real software receiver shows the effectiveness of the implemented IF signal generator.

  • A fast scan digital-IF FFT receiver at the radio communication band is presented for spectrum monitoring applications. It is composed of three parts: RF front-end, fast LO board, and signal processing board. It has about 19GHz/s scan rate, multi frequency resolution from 10kHz to 2.5kHz, and high sensitivity of below -99dBm. The design and performance analysis of the digital-IF FFT receiver are presented.

  • Since unloaded Q-value of a high-temperature superconductor(HTS) filter is very high, a bandpass filter(BPF) and a lowpass filter(LPF) with an increase of pole numbers can be fabricated without an increase of an insertion loss(IL) ; recently a 70-pole BPF is developed in USA. They have an abrupt skirt property and an excellent attenuation level for out-of band. Moreover, they can be miniaturized when lumped element resonators or the slow-wave characteristic are used. Technology of fabricating a HTS epitaxial film as well as a film of a 4 inch area also makes the planar type filter with a various structure and an enhanced power handling capability possible. Recently, the HTS filter subsystems composed of a planar-type HTS filters, a GaAs-based LNA and a mini-cryocooler are developed. The extended receiver front- end subsystems for mobile radio communications decrease the noise-figure level of the communication system and the frequency interference interacted adjacent bands, and increase the efficiency of frequency and the capacity of communication system. In this paper, theory for developing the HTS filter, its kinds, its design rules, its characteristics are reviewed. The feature of the research and market trends related to the HTS filter systems for the receiver front-end subsystem of mobile base station are surveyed.

  • In this paper, we have analyzed minimum performance required for W-CDMA Handset from standard and Implemented the receiver for W -COMA Handset. We have derived the noise figure and IIP3 of receiver and determined the selectivity about adjacent channel and minimum performance for front-end stage. Before the Implementation, we have verified the performance using AOS simulator In conclusion, we have implemented the receiver for W-COMA Handset using the heterodyne architecture and performed measurement. Therefore, this paper wlll gIVe a guideline for design of the W -COMA Handset.

  • The subsystems of two channel correlation radiometer such as RF front-end, IF and LF unit, LO unit, software based I/Q demodulator and complex correlator are characterized and their performance is analyzed in this paper. The limited hardware calibration method and receiver design consideration are discussed. The receiver architecture of 37GHz correlation radiometer is integrated. The designed radiometer employs a single-sideband superheterodyne receiver. The center frequency of the radiometer is 37 GHz and IF center frequency is 1.95 GHz with the equivalent noise bandwidth of 79.6 MHz. The receiver has less than 4.2 dB noise figure which is calculated by the Y-factor method and its gain can be adjusted from 60 dB to 80 dB.

  • This paper describes RF front-end transceiver chipset for the dual-mode operation of PCS-Korea and IMT-2000. The transceiver chipset has been implemented in a $0.25\mutextrm{m}$ single-poly five-metal CMOS technology. The receiver IC consists of a LNA and a down-mixer, and the transmitter IC integrates an up-mixer. Measurements show that the transceiver chipset covers the wide RF range from 1.8GHz for PCS-Korea to 2.1GHz for IMT-2000. The LNA has 2.8~3.1dB NF, 14~13dB gain and 5~4dBm IIP3. The down mixer has 15.5~16.0dB NF, 15~13dB power conversion gain and 2~0dBm IIP3. The up mixer has 0~2dB power conversion gain and 6~3dBm OIP3. With a single 3.0V power supply, the LNA, down-mixer, and up-mixer consume 6mA, 30mA, and 25mA, respectively.

  • In this paper, performance of a PN code acquisition scheme is analyzed and simulated for a DS/CDMA overlay system where a CDMA user and a narrowband user coexist in the same frequency band. To suppress the NBI, an interference suppression filter is employed at the receiver front-end. From the simulation results, it is shown that the interference suppression filter is very effective for suppression of the NBI and rapid PN code acquisition in a DS/CDMA overlay environment. It is also shown that the one-sided tap number of 5 fur interference suppression filter is sufficient to suppress the NBI.

  • In this paper, a down-converter that can work for L-band RF front-end of DMB receiver is designed. Since DRK-02, a reference for our work, had been designed for a stationary receiver, not for mobile one, the supply voltage is set relatively high of 8.5V. We improve it with 3.3V and save design space and cost by employing only one Mixer and IF_Amp comparing to the reference one in which two Mixers and two IF_Amps are used.

  • This paper presents the design and analysis of RF Front End for Wireless Heartbeat measurement System. In this work LNA, an inductor connected at the gate of the cascode transistor and capacitive cross-coupling are strategically combined to reduce the noise and the nonlinearity influences of the cascode transistors in a differential LNA. The Mixer is implemented by using the Gilbert-type configuration, cross pmos injection technique and the resonating technique for the tail capacitance. The resulting LNA achieves 1.26 dB NF, better than 1.88dB NF Typical Also Mixer resulting achieves 9.8dB at 100KHz.
