  • Purpose. This study was conducted to compare the paternal rearing behavior and rearing stress level between fathers with a preschooler and fathers with school children so that it can be utilized as a basic source for developing parental rearing education programs. Methods. A descriptive comparative methods was conducted to identify the paternal rearing behavior and paternal rearing stress. Respondents were 361 fathers who had either preschoolers (n=189) or children of elementary age (n=l72). Results. Comparing the two group's means, the rearing activity score and rearing stress there were significant differences. In the school children's group's father, 'outdoor activity' and 'guidance on discipline activity' were significantly higher than the other group. In the preschool children's fathers group, 'play interaction activity' was statistically significant higher than the other, and the child-part mean score of paternal rearing stress was significantly higher than the other group. The correlation between paternal rearing behavior and paternal rearing stress, it can be shown that more paternal rearing behavior means less paternal rearing stress. Conclusion. These results of this study will help design rearing program for fathers that have either preschool children or school children by providing the basic data for paternal rearing behaviors and paternal rearing stress.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of child rearing behavior and child rearing involvement on elementary school children's stress. The subjects were 201 children selected from 2 elementary schools and their parents. Data was collected using the children's stress index, the child rearing behavior questionnaire, and the child rearing involvement questionnaire, and was statistically analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA (Duncan test), correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The study showed that there were some significant differences in children's stress according to the child's gender, grade, and scholastic achievement. Correlation analysis indicated that the child's stress and the mother's child rearing behavior had significant correlation, especially the warmth acceptance behavior of the mother indicated negative high correlation. Also, the child's stress and father's child rearing behavior had significant correlation, especially the rejection restriction behavior of the father indicated positive high correlation. Correlation analysis indicated that the child's stress and the mother's child rearing involvement had significant correlation, especially the family activities involvement of the mother indicated negative high correlation. As well, the child's stress and the father's child rearing involvement had significant correlation, especially the day to day guidance involvement of the father indicated negative high correlation. It was also found that rejection restriction behavior of the father, permissiveness non-intervention behavior of the father, day to day guidance involvement of the father, family activities involvement of the father, and warmth acceptance behavior of the mother were all significant predictors of the elementary school child's stress.

The internalizing and externalizing behavior problem scores including aggressive behavior of children who experienced spanking were significantly higher than children who did not. In addition, Caregivers' child rearing confidence also showed associations with the children's behavior problems. Child behavior problems showed positive relationships with caregivers' child rearing burden, and negative relationships with child rearing attitude, attachment, and cognitive stimulation. Conclusion: Caregivers' negative discipline methods and low child rearing confidence showed significant relationships with children's behavior problems of poor, urban children. Secondly, children's self-efficacy was also found to affect children's prosocial behavior directly. Thirdly, children's self-esteem have a mediated effect on the relationship between fathers' child-rearing attitude and the children's prosocial behavior.

(3) There were significant differences in father's child-rearing behaviors, children's role-taking and children's prosocial behavior according to children's sex, SES, and mother's job. (4) Father's child-rearing behaviors and SES were the most important predictor variables influencing on children's role-taking. (5) Children's sex, children's role-taking and father's childrearing behaviors were the most important predictor variables influencing on children's prosocial behavior. • The purpose of this research is to determine the influence of affectionate child-rearing behavior on children's self esteem. The sample group was composed of 200 forth and sixth grade elementary school students. The statistics used for this data were frequency, percentile, averages, standard deviation, Cronbach's alpha, t-test, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The major findings of the research were as follows: First, the scores of affectionate child-rearing behavior(3.60), global self-worth(3.58), social acceptance(3.46) and behavior conduct(3.28) were higher than the mean scores. On the contrary the scores of cognitive ability(2.95), physical ability(2.94) and physical appearance(2.85) were lower than the mean scores. Second, there were significant differences in cognitive ability based on gender(p<.01) and global self-worth based on grade(p<.05). Third, the influence of affectionate child-rearing behavior on children's self esteem was found to be significant due to the sub-areas of self-esteem. Affectionate child-rearing behavior affects all sub-areas of self-esteem. Affectionate child-rearing behavior affects cognitive ability(p<.001), physical ability(p<.01), physical appearance(p<.01), social acceptance(p<.001), behavior conduct(p<.01) and global self-worth(p<.001).
