'Invalid Deductive Argument' Is an Oxymoron! ('부당한 연역 논증'은 형용모순이다!)

  • Hong and Yeo choose the intention criterion instead of the realization criterion for distinguishing deductive and inductive argument in their paper. This study aims to criticize their argument. I contend that their argument confuses argument reconstruction and argument classification[evaluation], and is making the mistake of utilizing the realization criterion when attempting to make up for the difficulties of the intention criterion. Also, most logicians, including Hong and Yeo, support the division of the argument into deductions, inductions, and bad arguments. Here I insist on a binary division of only deduction and induction. Finally, I argue that there is no need to teach the distinction between deduction and induction when teaching logic.

  • Recently, various AR-based product design methodologies have been introduced. In this paper, we propose technologies for enhancing robust augmentation and immersive realization of virtual objects. A robust augmentation technology is developed for various lighting conditions and a partial solution is proposed for the hand occlusion problem that occurs when the virtual objects overlay the user' hands. It provides more immersive or natural images to the users. Finally, vibratory haptic cues by page motors as well as button clicking force feedback by modulating pneumatic pressures are proposed while interacting with virtual widgets. Also our system reduces gabs between modeling spaces and user spaces. An immersive game-phone model is selected to demonstrate that the users can control the direction of the car in the racing game by tilting a tangible object with the proposed augmented haptic and robust non-occluded visual feedback. The proposed methodologies will be contributed to the immersive realization of the conventional AR system.

  • In de-noising, it is wellknown that wavelet-thresholding algorithm shows near-optimal performances in the minimax sense. However, the wavelet-thresholding algorithm is difficult in realization it on hardware, such as FPGA, because of wavelet function complexity. In this paper, we present a new do-noising technique with the binary tree structured filter bank, which is based on the signal power ratio of each subbands to the total signal power. And we realize it on FPGA. For simple realization, the filter banks are designed by Hadamard transform coefficients. The simulation and hardware experimental results show that the performance of the proposed method is similar with that of soft thresholding de-noising algorithm based on wavelets, nevertheless it is simple.

  • Low cost motor drives are being sought for high volume energy efficient home appliances. Key to the realization of such low cost motor drives is to reduce the power electronic converter in terms of its components, particularly the active devices, finding the motor with least complexity for manufacturing and a controller that could extract the desired performance from the machine and converter combination. These and other factors such as self-starting, speed control over a wide range and most of all the crowning aspect of a four quadrant operation with bare minimum number of controllable switch (or switches) remain as formidable challenges for low cost motor drive realization. In this paper, a four quadrant switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive with only one controllable switch is realized by using a two-phase machine. The theory and operation of the proposed four-quadrant SRM drive with the proposed control algorithm for its realization are described. The motor drive is modeled, simulated and analyzed to verify its feasibility for self-starting, speed control and for four quadrant operation and the simulation results are presented. Experimental results confirm the validity of the proposed control algorithm for four quadrant control of the SRM drive. The focus of the paper is mainly directed toward the control algorithm for realizing the four-quadrant operation of the two-phase SRM drive with a single controllable switch converter.

A Study on The e-Business Strategy and Corporate Performance (e-비즈니스 전략유형과 기업성과에 관한 연구)

  • This study tests e-business performance difference of the inter group by strategy type through the cluster analysis, after confirming the linear relationship between the e-business strategy type and its performance. According to the result of the study the effect on the e-business performance reveals to differ by the e-business strategy type. That is to say, while the firm's information system performance, e-business realization and the inter group competition dominance are affected positively by the e-process strategy, web application strategy and customer attracting strategy. This confirms that the information system performance, the realization performance and the competition dominance are affected by e - business strategy type. The key factor leading to the success of e-business is the commitment of e-process strategy and web application strategy. For the case of the customer attracting strategy the result shows the importance of the strategy. In the cluster group analysis, the additional analysis, the effect is seen to be more powerful in the firm's information system performance, e - business realization and securing the competition advantage for the case of the multiple strategy than that of single one. Accordingly, the firm needs to adopt the multiple strategy suited for the characteristic of the firm rather than the single strategy.

System identification of highway bridges from ambient vibration using subspace stochastic realization theories

  • In this study, the subspace stochastic realization theories (SSR model I and SSR model II) have been applied to a real bridge for estimating its dynamic characteristics (natural frequencies, damping constants, and vibration modes) under ambient vibration. A numerical simulation is carried out for an arch-type steel truss bridge using a white noise excitation. The estimates obtained from this simulation are compared with those obtained from the Finite Element (FE) analysis, demonstrating good agreement and clarifying the excellent performance of this method in estimating the structural dynamic characteristics. Subsequently, these methods are applied to the vibration induced by both strong and weak winds as obtained by remote monitoring of the Kabashima bridge (an arch-type steel truss bridge of length 136 m, and situated in Nagasaki city). The results obtained with this experimental data reveal that more accurate estimates are obtained when strong wind vibration data is used. In contrast, the vibration data obtained from weak wind provides accurate estimates at lower frequencies, and inaccurate accuracy for higher modes of vibration that do not get excited by the wind of lower intensity. On the basis of the identified results obtained using both simulated data and monitored data from a real bridge, it is determined that the SSR model II realizes more accurate results than the SSR model I. In general, the approach investigated in this study is found to provide acceptable estimates of the dynamic characteristics of highway bridges as well as for the vibration monitoring of bridges.

Optimal Realization of a State-Space Digital Filter Using Singular Value Decomposition (특이치 분해를 이용한 상태 공간 디지틀 필터의 최적 실현)

  • The problem of quantization errors in digital filter design arises because of the practical necessity due to finite wordlength implementation. These errors are classified into coefficient quantization error and roung off error. In this paper, in order to analyze and reduce these errors, minimum ceefficient quantization realization is directly derived form impulse responese design specification. And using the equivalent transform relation between minimum coefficient quantization error and minimum roundoff error realizations, we synthesize an optimal realization state-space digital filter. This technique is analyzed by the simulation of an approximated 3rd model, which shows that it is superior to direct or cascade state-space digital filter in quantization errors.

  • Vehicular communication is one of representative convergence technology which combines information technology and vehicle industry. Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE) technology is vehicular communication standard which is widely used in the world. In this paper, we introduce service realization of WAVE based vehicular communication systems in the practical testbed. We review the overall WAVE based systems in brief and introduce the testbed. Then, we investigate various applications using vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications. Based on realization of systems, we discuss practical implementation issues and the convergence area of WAVE systems.

  • The DVR system realization with watermarking and MPEG-4 for real time processing speed improvement is presented in this paper. For the real time processing the system is used the DSP processor, Quick DMA for data transmission, watermarking for security and MPEG-4 compression for facility. The algorithms are that the operational structure has the internal memory of processor, and the optimal realization is suitable to form the DSP processor structure r processed for the iterative operations. The experimental result shows the real time processing is improved 12% over for the D1 image in comparison with the other system.

  • Characteristics of hydrogen sensors for realization of transformer diagnosis system was studied, sensors used in this work are commercialized for detecting hydrocarbons or hydrogen gases. Based on the experimental results, the sensing characteristics of A company showed the high value even at the lower concentration of 20ppm, and it showed a saturation tendency with increasing it above 500ppm. In the case of B company, it showed the linear characteristics from 20ppm to 7000ppm. In addition, the output acquired from C company was amplified by external circuits due to its low output, and its adequate operation region was above 500ppm. Therefore, it is likely that these sensors are possible to apply for realization of transformer diagnosis system due to the different sensing characteristics of these sensors.
